Stupid me-don't open the door for ANYONE
10-Ring replied to White Goodman's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I would bet my paycheck they had a trunk full of Kirby vacuum cleaners. They got my parents 25 years ago. Salesman got dropped off at my parents rural house and his boss wouldn't pick him up until he made the sale. I'm less compassionate, I believe I would have given him a long walk to think about life. -
Hmm in the past week this user has started threads about 1) A ND in his home. (This thread) 2) Being mysteriously tailgated by a cop. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/75306-tail-gating/ 3) Comptemplated illegally carrying a handgun. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/75281-carry-question/ and 4) His car being mysteriously damaged while drinking moonshine http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/75212-not-paing-attention/ I find these threads entertaining because this stuff isn't happening to me and I live far enough away from him to not be concerned with wayward bullets coming from his house or his drunken "friends" crashing his car into my stuff. This dude is either a) a troll, b) So bad at making decisions that he should run on the democratic presidential ticket in 2016. Or c) the unluckiest person to ever walk the face of the earth. Seriously, RC3 if you are truly just a guy that is having a bad run of luck and making some less than good decisions, please for the sake of you and all of those around you, sit back contemplate your direction in life. Ask yourself "is this a good idea?" and ask yourself that question often. Seriously evaluate the people you are hanging out with. Sometimes you need to cut some of the people in your life out for your own sake. The things that you do over the next couple of years are going to determine what the rest of your life is going to be like, make wise choices!

20/20 Special on kids and guns - 1/31 @ 10pm EST
10-Ring replied to monkeylizard's topic in General Chat
I agree with all of that, just figured I'd be preaching to the choir talking about keeping guns away from kids here. You are correct in assuming that they will figure 15-18 year old gang bangers into their figures as well. My 4 year old gets a dollar if she finds an unsecured gun in our house and tells an adult. We've tested her (unloaded gun with our direct presence and supervision,) though I'd never give her access to a gun at her age I feel confident she will do the right thing if she finds a gun. Heck, she has a rubber band gun that she practices better muzzle discipline with than 1/2 of the guys I see at the range. I find it ironic that my toddler who has been raised around guns would be much safer in that scenario than a kid who has been shielded from "evil guns" their entire life. -
So you want to see a picture of some of the Walmart problem?

Seems to me that these guys are just your run of the mill ornery old farts. We all know the kind. They know everything, they are always right, they are experts on everything guns included, they can do things that they balk at anyone else for doing. Most have plenty of money, more than they will ever spend but they seem to get some kind of thrill out of making a few bucks on this ammo just because they can. Ammo scalping gets them out of the house and away from their nagging wives for a few hours. Let's buy these geezers some golf clubs and one way tickets to Florida and we can have our ammo back! -
20/20 Special on kids and guns - 1/31 @ 10pm EST
10-Ring replied to monkeylizard's topic in General Chat
It will be biased no doubt, I saw something about it this morning that claimed that "guns kill over 7000 children per year." Yes, it was the guns and not the people pulling the trigger. It's all about sensationalism, if you really want to protect the children ban the bicycles and swimming pools, which claim far more children each year than guns. -
ACTION ALERT- Guns In Parks Bill Up For A Vote!!!
10-Ring replied to chrisw670's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Emails sent, sure do hope this passes, for several reasons, including because it's something that a bunch of our liberal leader (including Haslam) don't support. -

Is it still up? I looked and couldn't find it, please post a link if you know where it is. -

Hope the OP doesn't mind I put this on armslist. We'll see how long it stays up. -
Only slightly related... There is a place that I like to fish here locally that has some hiking trails as well. I decide to go fishing last week, as I pull up to the parking lot I see about 3 other vehicles so I'm immediately thinking "Oh man, I'm going to have to share the creek." Upon closer inspection all three are Subarus and Volkswagons and have either NPR, Obama, or Sierra Club stickers which gave them away as hikers and not fishermen, sure enough the only fishing pole I saw all afternoon was the one in my hand.

I got up in some mountain creeks on Monday afternoon and was hoping to get a couple of trout. I know they are there but after about May the tourists make them much harder to catch. I was hoping I would get lucky in the off season but no such luck. After getting into trout and smallmouth I no longer have a desire to fish for those fat lazy largemouth.

Do a search and see how many TGO members have bough Tauruses and had to send them back to the factory for some reason. If you are on a budget I would take a S&W Sigma, or even a Hi Point over a Taurus.

Anybody seen this show Appalachian Outlaws? New reality series about ginseng diggers. They really can do reality shows about anything...

I've never had a problem shooting at any property outside of city limits where it was a safe to do so. I've even shot in a couple of subdivisions. My MIL lives in a cul-de-sac and her yard backs up to a very steep hill. All the neighbors will come over to shoot. It's pretty cool for suburbia. If you don't want to open that can of worms with the local SO (and it would be a SO as opposed to a PD since you are outside city limits) you could always hire a lawyer and seek their opinion. I lived in one place in a very rural area and shot in my back yard, as did one of my neighbors (wasn't really a neighbor, lived 1/4 mile down the road. We had a guy about a half mile down that would call the SO every time we would shoot. I can't imagine anyone living in a setting that rural and having problems with neighbors shooting??? Sherriffs office responded a couple of times when I was having a shooting marathon. Pretty much said something like said "Guy down the road made a complaint so we had to check it out, you are being safe, what are you shooting? That guy is an idiot!"

That's why I put Hi Point and Lorcin stickers on my safe.

Just though that I'd weigh in and give you my $0.02 as a guy who has owned and shot a lot of different .22s. As the others have said, the SA22 is very hard to beat and one of my favorites of all time. Super compact and a joy to shoot. Stay away from the Norinco knockoffs, they are junk! I also really like the BL-22, another one of my favorites and the .22 that I have probably spent the most time with. I've also spent a lot of time with a Nylon 66. They are probably getting hard to find in good shape but they are good guns. I have a 597 that I picked up for $50 a few years back. Nothing special but well worth what I paid for it. IMO it's cheaply made. It does not like to properly function if it gets a little dirty and the magazines have always been problematic. I just keep it clean and I have a gun that I can leave in the truck and not worry about it.

This is probably what happens more often than not. It just doesn't make the news. A lot of sheep will just assume that you are a cop if you are OCing.

Not a truck but this morning I was cleaning out my old car getting it ready to sell and found an Ipod that I lost 3+ years ago. I remember losing it, I was driving west on I-40 around Kingston, traffic was a little hairy and I needed a music change. While messing with the Ipod I decided giving traffic 100% of my attention was more important so I pitched the Ipod over towards the passenger seat and never saw it again. I swear I turned that car upside down 3 or 4 times looking for it. Well it turned up at the car wash this morning thanks to one of those industrial vacuums. Turns out it was behind some electronics box under the passenger seat and could not be seen. It's charging now, can't wait to listen to it at work tonight, I remember it having some good stuff on it.

When I first heard about this gun my thoughts were along the lines of "Why?" or "Who would buy that?" After reading the recent article about the 42 in G&A (first decent article they have printed in a long while IMO) I can see it. I'm not about to run out and buy one but I can see its purpose. I think it is very similar to the Bodyguard. I had a chance to carry a Bodyguard for a few days back in the summer and liked a lot of things about it, I thought that the laser sight was silly and added weight and size to the gun. I wouldn't mind having one as a BUG or a "I really don' feel like carrying right now but this is better than nothing" gun. Like others have said bring it out in 9x19 and everyone will want one.

NC resident probably moving to Nashville area
10-Ring replied to Whisper's topic in New Member Introductions
Welcome. I live in East Tennessee and am from the Nashville area. Where are you in NC? We love WNC and spend a lot of time there. I would guess that you will miss it. There is no job that could get me to move back to Nashville. I'll skip on my commentary about the Nashville area, but if you do a search you will find a wealth of information on all of the questions that you have asked. I lived in NC for a while and I will say that TN taxes and carry laws are much more friendly. -
A large arsenal in California is less than the amount of artillery that I carry on a weekend camping trip. Really though, it's a matter of perspective and dare I say much like the term "assault weapon," I really think that "arsenal" is a hot word used by the media in order to incite panic in the sheep.

There was once a guy that lived in a cabin in the mountains. He drank as much beer as he damned well pleased, had a safe full of guns and a garage full of motorcycles. One day this fella decided to get on one of those dating websites. Now he has a wife, lives in the suburbs, and is constantly asked things like "Do you really need that many guns/motorcycles?" I won't mention any names.

What level of stupid does it take to do something like this? A friend of mine's kid (23) tried that on me and I stuck him in an arm bar until he screamed like a little girl and told him that was a really good way to get hurt. His dad called him a dumb@$$. Thing that really bothers me aside from the fact that there is a hot gun in the hands of someone who obviously is not qualified to handle a gun is the risk of the gun going of while they are screwing around trying to get it out of the holster.

In addition to what JWC and the others have said which is correct. Do yourself a favor and read the TWRA hunting manual cover to cover, it is available online at TWRA's website or you can pick up a hard copy for free just about anywhere that sells licenses. I seem to constantly hear that you can or cannot do something hunting related that is completely false information. Hunting laws are not mythological, they are written out in an easy to read and mostly easy to understand format. There are several laws in this state that either don't make sense or are in place for a peculiar reason, and even things that a non hunter or new hunter wouldn't think of but may accidentally violate. Game wardens generally don't have a very good sense of humor and are pretty big on the whole "ignorance of the law is no excuse" thing.
