  1. Last Sunday I went to the M'boro gun show with one thing in mind, to find an FNS compact. I came home with one. I got a great deal (cheaper than I could find on the internet anywhere). I shot 100 rounds of WWB 115 grain and 50 rounds of Fiocchi 124 grain without a glitch. Sweet shooting gun and shot tight groups at 10 yards. One problem though. The flush magazine won't lock the slide back when racking the slide without ammo in the mag. The follower cocks over to the right and goes past the slide stop. This makes it harder to eject the mag without pushing down on the follower first. I called FN and they told me to send that mag back to them and they will send another. The other 2 mags that came with the gun are fine. This gun fits my hand perfectly and shoots well so it will probably become my daily carry after I have shot more rounds and tested hollowpoints as well. I expect it will work fine just like my FNX 9 and FNP 45. One other note, I've heard about how rude the customer service could be at FN but the guy I talked to was very friendly and helpful.
  2. I meant to mention that smart phones are a good tool, my wife has one and we use it for many useful things, especially when on the road. Some people just can't function without them anymore. Sometimes I think I'm too tied up even with my old fashioned flip phone. Out to dinner with friends for example  to me is conversation with those at the table, not someone not even there. I'm ok with phone usage but it seems to be a crutch sometimes.
  3. I went to Carraba's in the 'boro last weekend and was seated next to a table of kids obviously dressed to go to prom. 6 guys and 6 gals. Every single one dined with a smart phone in one hand and a fork in the other, only laying it down on occasion. The phone, not the fork. Constantly texting and surfing during the entire meal. They finished before us and when we left they were all sitting outside in a line with heads down staring at the phones. It seems the phones are now more attractive than a young dressed to kill peer of the opposite sex. It would have made a great picture but I forget that my old flip phone has a camera on it. LOL.
  4. I don't know if this helps any but I wear contacts sometimes when I shoot with iron sights. If I only wear the left contact and leave the right on out I can see the sights with my nearsightedness and the target with the corrected vision left eye. Works well for me anyway.
  5. I too am an FN fan. My next purchase will be an FNS 9 compact with night sights. Most likely will become my primary carry gun if it works as well as my FNP 45 or FNX 9 do.
  6. Glad to have you at TGO and the 'boro as well.
  7. Give them time. Still, you can't fix stupid. What a dirtbag.
  8. I'm looking for April to be better myself. Prayers and good luck to you.
  9. 3 weeks ago I posted about my Dad going to the ER and amazingly pulled off a comeback. He went to rehab but was later helicoptered to St. Thomas in critical condition. Those old lungs were just worn out and he said no more. Never went on the vent, went out on his own terms. This Saturday he would have been 88. He was sleeping a lot on his last day, my sister turned on the Lady Vols basketball game because he loved the Vols in spite of his sleeping so much. He woke up and told her Channel 11, ESPN. He drifted in and out but saw the Vols come from behind for an overtime win, closed his eyes and died later that night. We thought it would be appropriate if he had gone with the final buzzer. The last thing he did was give the keys to his truck to his granddaughter. That gave him as much pleasure as it did her. RIP Dad, you were the best.
  10. I married a good one too, in spite of her fear of guns. At least she respects my right to own them. I think mainly because she calls me "Mr. Safety" about most anything I do.
  11. I just hope y'all don't try to outbid me. $35,000 is pretty much my limit, even on such a rare beast as this.
  12. I know several people that have never owned a firearm in their life until the last 5 years. Some were even anti gun at one time.
  13. Hope she gets well soon.
  14. My dad suffered respiratory arrest early Sunday morning. My brother didn't think he would still be with us by the time I got to the hospital. Some good nursing and help from above (the nurses and Dr. say that's what did it) brought him back around.  Back to his old self. Yesterday the hospitalist came to see him and asked several questions. Some went like this: Dr.  - "How much do you weigh? Dad - "155 pounds" Dr.  - "what's the most you ever weighed'? Dad - "205 pounds" Dr  - "What's the least you ever weighed"? Dad - " 7 pounds 8 ounces" Yep. That's my dad alright.    He is on the mend but any additional prayers would be appreciated. Thanks. He's a tough old bird that served in Germany post WW2.
  15. I have a 66 no dash which I love to shoot. It's polished as well because I like it better and don't plan to sell it. It's my favorite revolver that I own. I say shoot it, clean it, oil it and shoot it some more. In other words, enjoy it.
  16. Glad to hear it. I smoked a Camel when I was 8 years old and got sick as a dog. Haven't had one since. Cigarettes killed my mom when she was 39 and my dad got lung cancer at a later age but it was caught in time to fix it. I hate cigarettes with a passion and will always applaud when some quits. Hang in there.
  17. It's now been 13 months since I orderd my 5000 rounds of Mini Mags. Cancelled by Midway last week. Good thing I was prepared for the drought of .22's.
  18. I'm thinking about trying a pair of these. Made in Tennessee. Levi's and Wrangler's no longer are made in USA.   http://www.americangusset.com/
  19. I almost bought a 4" sp101 a few months ago, I'm regretting now that I passed on it. I love my GP100 in 3" and would like to get a 4" next. I'm just a sucker for wheel guns.
  20. Too bad you sold the LCR. Hogue is making grips for sale now. I may have to try some on mine.   http://www.shootingillustrated.com/index.php/35872/hogue-announces-grips-for-ruger-lcrs/
  21. Wow!! I've worked in hospitals for 40 years and heard my share of stories about doctors and nurses. I don't know what hospital you were in but anywhere I've worked they would come down hard on those people. I hope you get pain free soon and you can get back to normal. Hang in there. Sounds like it could only get better now.
  22. I just got a couple of knives and a Fenix flashlight with my rewards points last month. I've been a member of REI for 20+ years and have never had a complaint. I go to the Brentwood store quite often.
