  1. Effingham, IL- In a quite literal case of March Madness, Doris Stevens, had family members buzzing with laughter and concern at her annual Easter Brunch this Sunday. “I don’t know what they are all fussin’ about today, but I don’t want any part of it”, stated the 86 year old Effingham native. Upon arrival, Doris’ daughter, Mary Stevens, knew that there was an  instant cause for concern. “When I got here, I noticed that my mom had put a spiral ham in my sons Easter basket.” Taking immediate action, Mary ran into the kitchen and removed what appeared to be a honey glazed Wilson football from her mothers oven. In an apparent spell of Dementia, Doris had been slow cooking her grandson’s Easter present at 325 degrees for almost an hour. Unnoticed, Mary quickly handled the situation while Doris was preoccupied with her grandchildren. With Mary’s quick action and her brother, Andy’s, dry humor, the family managed to avoid the awkward Easter ordeal. “Can I ‘handoff’ or ‘pass’ anyone some more ham”, joked Andy as the meal came to an end. Although a close call, the brunch went on to be a huge success. After fielding various questions about her diet and medication schedule, Doris seemed visibly tired, as she took her leave from the dinner table.  Taking a rest on the “Davenport”, Doris watched the children hunt Easter eggs. When asked to comment on how the holiday was going, she explained, “They all think I’m nutty, but I still got it. My daughter told me she would have Easter at her house next year.” She laughed as she passed the jelly beans, “I’ve been trying to get these assholes out of my house for 5 years now”, whispered Doris.
  2. My wife bought a Prius in 2008. 220,000 miles later it's still getting 53 mpg in town and about 48 on the road. Yes, better mileage in town because it runs electrically a lot in stop and go traffic. It's been very dependable. Only thing I don't like is when the headlight burns out it's $200 a piece. I guess all the good mileage has to make up for that. Still has original brake pads and they are checked every 5000 miles so no complaint there. Last time I got it serviced at the Firestone store the guy told me he had a Prius to come in with over 500,000 miles on it and going strong. Hope mine lasts that long.
  3. I have both and am happy with each one. The Springer has a slightly better trigger but dollar for dollar the Ruger is hard to beat. I say try out the triggers and fondle them both and buy the one you like in the store. Either one will make you happy I'm sure.
  4. My wife's car had a chunk missing from the sidewall while I was checking air pressure. I replaced it the same day. I'd hate for her to hit a pot hole and what might happen then.
  5. I pocket carry an LCR .357 loaded with Gold Dot short barrel magnums. They have very little more recoil than a .38 +P. When I go hiking I will usually carry a S&W 686 plus, 2.5 inch barrel in an OWB holster also loaded with Gold Dots or 180 grain hard cast if in bear country. The LCR will also go along in the pocket when carrying the 686.
  6. I'm sure you will be happy with your new 45. Mine shoots great and has less recoil than my Glock 30. Very nice home defense weapon.
  7. I had my knee replaced just before my 59th birthday due to a rather traumatic injury at age 26. My knee was replaced in October of 2012 and the following April I did a 2 day bicycle ride averaging 70 miles each day. One big thing is to start rehab before the surgery. Stretching and strengthening before hand will improve your rehab afterwards. I did the week long Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee the September before the replacement in October and although it was rather painful the whole week it made the rehab much easier. Still painful though. Just remember when you start rehab, it will be much better later. Be sure and stretch as much as you can stand for quicker results.
  8. I carry a Fenix E12 everywhere I go. 130 Lumens on a single AA battery. Very small and easy to carry. It can be found for about $25 and is very durable. I have other larger Fenix and Streamlight lights and have been satisfied with each one so far.
  9. If the bad guy is prone to photosensitive epilepsy it could thrown him into a seizure. Bad guy down without firing a shot.

  11. I love my FN 45. Mine's not a tactical model though. You will not regret this. Now if you can just find a good ankle holster.
  12. This may have been on here before, not sure but it's worth reading againl     Husband and Wife Christmas Shopping A couple were in a busy shopping center just before Christmas. The wife suddenly noticed that her husband was missing and as they had a lot to do, so she called him on the mobile. The wife said " Where are you, you know we have lots to do." He said "You remember the jewelers we went into about 10 years ago, and you fell in love with that diamond necklace? I could not afford it at the time and I said that one day I would get it for you?" Little tears started to flow down her cheek and she got all choked up… "Yes, I do remember that shop." she replied. "Well I am in the gun shop next door to that."
  13. Looks like we dodged the bullet here south of Murfreesboro. Talked to my brother in Paris, he said they had significant winds earlier but ok for the most part.
  14. If it plummets it won't really matter to me. I like it enough to keep it until I'm dead and my nephew covets it anyway so I'll pass it on to him. If it goes up enough then it will matter because I'll sell it and get something else and keep the change.
  15. Looks like the lifetime warranty just went kaput on my Stag Arms 2-T.
  16. I would agree on other matters but this one will only punish law abiding gun owners from Virginia. The people that made the changes are good with depriving their citizens when they travel out of their own state. In fact, it's probably preferable to them.
  17. I know a liberal didn't make it. They probably couldn't spell NRA correctly.
  18. I had a Hi Power in .40 but sold it because of the hammer bite. They tell me the 9mm isn't so bad about that. Very accurate and nice shooting gun otherwise.
  19. I don't worry about printing too much any more even though I try to conceal most of the time. People don't really notice from my experience. My wife hates guns, in the last year on 3 occasions we have been in restaurants where open carriers were eating and she didn't even notice. I carry all the time and she only recently found that out. ( I guess I am pretty sneaky). Most people are oblivious to their surroundings only caring about their own quest for the latest and greatest whatever they are shopping for and don't care. The only people that notice will be people like us that are also carrying, and we like it.
  20. I've pocket carried my LCR .357 for quite a while thinking it would be enough in most cases such as a robbery in a large parking lot at night but lately I've been carrying either my Glock 30 OWB or the FNS9 compact IWB in addition to the LCR because of terrorist attacks such as San Bernidino. The extra rounds might come in handy. I don't really expect to be in that situation but neither did the people in San Bernidino.

  22. I gave up mountain biking a good while back. Still road biking though, started in 1976 and can't quit. Riding a 1999 Lemond Buenos Aires most of the time or a Burley Duet tandem with the better half. 6 other bikes in the garage to use at different times.
  23. I ordered 5000 rounds of Mini Mags, back ordered. One year later order was cancelled even though I wanted to keep the back order open. I understand the shortage but they could have kept the back order open at my request.
