  1. I taught my GS with a 10/22 at the plinking range at the range I belong to. The plinking range allows any target except glass ones, has some rough benches at a "formal" firing line, safety lights, etc. This environment allowed me to have some defined grounds as to what's safe, and what's not safe. Also covered the range rules set by the club, etc., Granted the GS had a BB gun, but had just used/shot it around his house with no damage or incidents before his first trip to the range. After his initial "shock" of the loud report of the 22lr, he proceeded to do "mag dumps" with the 10/22 so fast that "meme" could not keep up with the reloading duties. LOL He learned the rules the first time, and on later trips, he always remembered them, he always waited or asked about something if he was unsure, never bolted downrange, no muzzle sweeps, etc.
  2. IMO, a RK is a suitable LD touring bike IF set up for it. I put a Corbin saddle w/ backrest on mine, a low to med height windscreen and lower wind deflectors on the forks. I rode this bike to Daytona Bike week from East TN, a mix of 2 lane and interstate. Interstate traffic is a bit different with the big rigs blowing you around more than 2 lane roads. Wind buffeting/noise at 70 mph was not bad and tolerable making a 300 mile day easy to do IMO. I usually split a trip to Daytona up over 2 days just cause I wanted to enjoy the trip. Ear plugs reduce the wind noise and still allowed me to hear traffic on the interstate. I even towed a Bushtec trailer behind the RK for a couple yrs as well, so you can really pack "heavy" if desired. I still have a travel bag that slips over the backrest pad and will hold enough clothes for a week if you pack right, and don't have to have a clean shirt twice a day. Is a RK a good as a full touring bike, I can't say because I never had a desire for a full fairing bike nor ever rode one, so take what I say with some salt if desired. LOL You should decide what style/type of bike you want/need for the type of riding you want or intend to. Just day rides, or wanna go cross country, to bike week, etc.
  3. I was in RK at Sweetwater this past Saturday, they had 556 ammo, limit of 1 or 2 at $125 for a box of 150. Norma 22lr black box was $7/box, don't remember a limit on the 22lr.
  4. As I stated in the other thread, I had several Suzuki Intruder 1400's, which are the chopper style, and one Boulvard 1500, all good bikes. Moved up to a HD Road King, did some engine mods to it before I even rode it and was tickled to death with it and it's performance/ride. The RK is a step below the full blown touring bikes with just hard saddle bags, no touring trunk or full fairing. Weight was around 800# +/-. The HD handled better at slow parking lot speeds than the Suzuki's did, and rode better overall. I had a 2000 MY, with air adjustable shocks on the rear which they stopped offering soon after I got mine. Engine mods made the bike run like a scalded dog, and could cruise the roads in E TN with "authority".
  5. Reportedly, the F150 with the 3.5 EB twin turbo engine has the "V8" sound enhancement thru the radio speakers as well. I have a '18 F150 3.5EB, and can't hear that V8 growl thru the speakers. Don't particular care either, the truck does what I need for it to do, and has been very dependable to date.
  6. Better start saving up for a "hybusa", so he can go really really fast to meet his friends. LOL.
  7. Congrats on the find/purchase. I've had several Suzuki bikes in the Intruder models, still miss my '04 Intruder 1400. LOL. Dependable bikes, and should be a good beginners bike for him.
  8. I've never had a "crotch rocket" as I call 'em, figured I would end up letting my "stupid" take over so I stayed away from them. I would think you son needs a smaller/light weight bike due to his overall size, a 500cc bike might be just the right size in terms of power/weight ratio, and taking the MSF course is a good thing. I took it years ago, and the basic skills I learned then saved my butt more than once.
  9. Need to consider the size of your son as well, how tall and heavy is he?? Needs to fit his "size" so he can reach the ground, foot pegs, etc. My first bike was a Honda 750 Nighthawk, a good starter bike but had a bad handlebar wobble at 70mph. I've ridden mostly bigger cruiser bikes, had a Wing at one time, too big for for. The Suzuki Intruder line is comparable to the Yammer Vstars, so there is another option. I don't know if Honda has a touring bike smaller than the Wing, they used to have a ST1100, and may have a smaller version. GL
  10. Probably need a little thicker/wider rachet strap to hold that on there. Then there is the issue of ammo availability.
  11. Never saw a Steak & Ale franchise location in a mall, their interior was the medieval like, dark with heavy furniture, could have had the flickering lights but don't remember that part. If more recent times, maybe Fridays or Ruby Tuesdays??
  12. Prayers for all of you, it's a rough time for sure.
  13. I've used a RCBS 505 scale for several years now, but I bought a cheapo 10" tablet to use as a viewer to make it easier to see the pointer and zero, eliminates the eye strain and parallax issues once you get it all set up. I've not found a reason to upgrade my 505 but congrats on the new scale.
  14. I have 2 for myself, and got one as a gift for a deer hunter I know. He won't use it for skinning, etc., says it too "pretty" to use. LOL. I'm not a knowledgeable person on knifes, but they are super nice to look at, and Don is a super nice guy on top of that.
  15. I was at Sportsmans Warehouse in Chattanooga yesterday. No powder or primers on the shelves, limited selection of bullets. They did have several boxes (500 ct) of 9mm in the 115-125gr range. I don't reload for handguns, so don't quote me on the weights. One box limit, but if you're looking for something, Also had some 556 FMJ bullets as well. Prices ranged from $150-200 for the 500 ct boxes depending on contents.
  16. I may have to order those bag of snakes, we've got birds issues here. Some dove's keep wanting to build nests on our downspouts under the house eaves, and or sit on the mailbox and crap all over the handle. Starlings and similar birds want to build nests on our front porch. One even died a quick death by flying into the storm door. I have put those plastic owls out on all sides of the house, but the owls performance seems very dependent on the exact location they are placed. I have put one rubber snake on the brick mailbox structure, it has helped. I placed that one on the back of the brick so as to no scare USPS people. LOL
  17. I saw a bumper sticker yesterday: You can't fix stupid, but you can numb it up with a 2x4. Seems appropriate to some extent.
  18. Congrats on getting it all to come together.
  19. The heat deflectors are upside down, weber calls those bars "flavorizer bars", should be indentations on the shelf where they are currently sitting for the edges to be in to hold them in place and distribute the heat more evenly. I would fire it up and let it heat up for longer than 10min myself. If the bottom portion of the grill is caked up with grease from use, just remove the grates and bars, use a paint scraper to scrape all the gunk down into the grease drip hole. Then use some of the spray grill cleaner to remove most of the grease, and re-install everything. Fire it back up and cook off the cleaner if used.
  20. Google the brand of the grill and you can probably get replacement parts online, or find a parts diagram which would indicate the drip pan and holder, etc. Maybe make one out of a coat hanger and the foil pans at wally world may work. GL
  21. We have a rescue dog, it's a wild child/devil dog that is extremely spastic about almost everything named Maggie. Wife pays more attention to it than me, but that means I get away with a lot more stuff now. LOL
  22. Well, at least everyone will not be beaching about the price of primers/powder/boolits for a week or two. 87 octane was $2,86/gal at wally world today for me. I was a bit surprised for a second that they had gas, but then I remembered it was walmart/murphy and they can get stuff when no one else can.
  23. If you get the opportunity to get one of the flags, do it. I've gotten 3, one is in my reloading room, gave one to the daughter, and have one for mom next time I got visit. Super nice guy and takes pride in his work.
  24. Seems to be mixed results (time frames) from past posts, but congrats on getting it all done in a timely manner LOL.
