  1. The John Browning option will get you the death penalty. OTOH, they will get away with it with a token slap on the wrist.
  2. Read this story a while back and just saw the conclusion. :) http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/loaded-gun-in-vagina-sentencing-576342 The comments had me rolling on the floor!
  3. Thanks for the correction! I based my assumption on using a Dremel to cut in half a SS109 Portuguese FN NATO round versus a commercial Remington soft point hunting load a couple decades ago. There was a noticeable difference in the web of cartridge. I used to buy the SS109 green vinyl battle packs from Atlanta Discount Ammo and loved shooting that stuff. A lot of my experience is dated to those pre-Internet days where gun magazine articles and Shotgun News were my sources of info. EDIT: That article you linked too confirms my experience. Check out the last sentence. Quote .223 Remington vs. 5.56x45--Chambering and Throat Considerations Is the .223 Remington the same as the 5.56x45? The answer is yes and no. There ARE differences between the .223 Remington as shot in civilian rifles and the 5.56x45 in military use. While the external cartridge dimensions are essentially the same, the .223 Remington is built to SAAMI specs, rated to 50,000 CUP max pressure, and normally has a shorter throat. The 5.56x45 is built to NATO specs, rated to 60,000 CUP max pressure, and has a longer throat, optimized to shoot long bullets. That said, there are various .223 Remington match chambers, including the Wylde chamber, that feature longer throats. Military 5.56x45 brass often, but not always, has thicker internal construction, and slightly less capacity than commercial .223 Rem brass. /Quote
  4. Also pay close attention to the chambering of the rifle and the brass you are using. A 5.56 can shoot .223, not vice versa due to chamber/throat relationship. Military 5.56 brass typically has a thicker web at the base of the shell when compared to commercial .223 Remington brass. Capacity is slightly smaller. Sort your brass. Load to .223 specs and you will be good to go. I believe that military sniper rounds are loaded to .223 spec ... Accuracy is rarely if ever the hottest load. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ My uncle introduced my father and I to reloading. He was a carpenter ... Like most teenagers, I got excited about now having the freedom and choice to make some "hot" rounds that are better than what you can buy in a store. Like making car engines more powerful and so on ... He crooked his index finger at me and said, "Come outside for a minute, I want to show you something." He took a 22 oz Estwing framing hammer and a couple 3 1/2 inch nails and walked to a piece of 4x4 lumber we had lying around. He handed me the hammer and a nail and told me to drive the nail into the wood. So I tap, tap, tap, tap seven or eight times till the nail went in. Then he asked for his hammer back and said, "I want you to do this ..." He took a nail and gave it a good tap to plant it and with one hard well practiced blow, he sank the nail almost to the head in the pine. "Now, you do it." I took the hammer back from him and tried several times to sink it just the way he did. I either bent the nail or missed it completely creating a huge dent in the wood with the hammer head. He stopped me and said, "That's enough!" "See this piece of wood?" "That's your father's rifle that he paid $400 for, those nails are those 'inexpensive and hot' bullets you want to load." "That rifle will last you a lifetime if you treat it with care and respect." "You load hot, and you WILL destroy that rifle either with an explosion or ruin it before its time." Being the typical teenaged wiseass, I told him he was able to drive that nail with one blow. He then responded, " I've been doing this for over twenty years, I still miss and bend nails every twenty or so." "I can't afford to buy a new rifle every time I screw up." Never forgot that lesson ... RIP, Uncle Mo.
  5. Thought this was brilliantly handled by our local sherriff's department ... http://chattanoogan.com/2013/5/30/252351/Elderly-Ooltewah-Man-Fires-Gun-Thinking.aspx
  6. Do not buy any mower that is made by MTD. They buy the brand and peddle their crappy engineering in pretty colorful wrappers only to have constant failures. Google MTD (Motor Tool and Die) mowers Buy once, cry once

  8. In my younger and dumber days ... I hit five junebugs in rapid succession going a little over 70 mph wearing a tshirt. The last one hit me on the left nipple ... It hurt so bad I pissed in my pants. I now have very high quality gear ... Even that did not stop me from getting a fractured scapula last fall. It is not if you crash ... it is when you crash.
  9. Wow, I've had some bad dealings but this is over and beyond anything I ever heard!
  10. You can't afford a decent wood chipper, better off renting one for $200+ that can get the job done. Those garden type chippers are useless for wood. They have a hard enough time with cornstalks. Worst tool I ever bought, talk to anyone that owns one before laying down cash. As for a chainsaw, buy a used pro grade saw. Probably the same price as a new homeowner grade, but it will last you a lifetime and you can get parts to fix them. Homeowner grade are mostly plastic and vibrate the heck out of your hands. Jes' my two cents ....
  11. I went to Smokey Mtn Knifeworks and they refused to sell me an almost $500 Benchmade. I think it was this model that OP posted above. Tried to tell him it was OK for owning one ... No go ... I left without buying anything.
  12. http://www.newschannel5.com/story/22239122/ky-man-shoots-suspect-three-times-during-home-invastion Thought the libtards portray us as a bunch of bloodthirsty gun owners. What gives? :p
  13. But who would want to eat the pork afterwards? Ahhh! Got it! Politicians!
  14. Join your local rifle range. Vote to PURCHASE ten to twenty Cricket rifles, ammo and a couple of high quality safes. Organize a group of existing instructors. Set up a curriculum with regards to safety, range rules and finally marksmanship. Sell the "free" (actually endowed) program to scouts, church groups, youth groups. All kids that participate that get the bug WILL find a way to earn their own. DO NOT GIVE ANYTHING AWAY! THAT IS HOW THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY RUINED THIS COUNTRY,
  15. Two for me with consecutive serial numbers.
  16. That will buff right out ... with a little duct tape and some zip ties! Just couldn't resist! ;)
  17. I've been thinking of getting a .223/5.56 can and occasionally running it on a .22 Buckmark. Anything wrong with that line of thought?
  18. Currently

    My new AR

I had my eye on that but just could not come up with the cash without hurting the budget. That is a quality build. Congrats on the purchase and may it serve you well!
  19. My boss was looking for some 22 ammo to go shoot with his son couple weeks ago. He was shocked there was none to be found. I gave him a couple boxes and told him to wait till the madness goes away and just replace the ammo. Told him to keep his eye on Walmart, Academy and Sportsmans Warehouse. I vote with my dollars and reward these companies. I bought a nice spotting scope this weekend at SW and told them the reason I bought there instead of online is because of their pricing policies even though I could of got it cheaper online. The scariest thought that occurred to me is if there is no real shortage on ammo and people react like this ... What will happen when there is a perceived FOOD SHORTAGE?
  20. I will remember ... I hope they choke on every round and every magazine they have ... I vote with my dollars and they will never see a penny from me.
