  1. My neighbor has electric driveway gates. UPS and FedEx just leave his packages on the ground outside his gate. So far no problems with theft. They do get rained on occasionally. I would think some type of lockable drop box would be ideal.
  2. I have a Maverick 88 defense and a 590. I like the Model 88 just about as well as the 590. And the Maverick 88 cost half as much. Academy gets the Maverick 88 Defense model in fairly often for about $199.
  3. I sold one the other day on Gun Owners Club. I have used it several times in the past with good results but it seems most things for sale on there are in West Tennessee. You have to register to see the pictures but it is free.
  4. I had an FFL 8 years ago. I had TICS turn one guy down who was using a Tennessee Handgun Permit as his ID to make the purchase.
  5. I decided to have a new house built on the lake in Lenoir City. It was a constant stress headache for a year while building and ran 20% over budget. If I had it to do over I would buy one already built. Good luck and I hope your build goes smoother than mine did.
  6. Or worse yet, some new administration could do away with handgun permitting and implement a rule that as all permits expire none of them will be renewed.
  7. No those would be 5 gallon buckets. They are only passing out 1 gallon buckets.
  8. There is some truth to that. This country is like the Titantic. We have already hit the iceberg. The Republicans are handing out buckets to bail out the water. The Democrats are drilling more holes in the hull of the ship to let the water run back out. Either way I fear we are going to go down.
  9. There is a Facebook page TN Preppers.

    Prowler

Actually surveyors have plastic caps that they hammer down over the end of the rebar. Makes the end about 2 inches wide and a lot safer for kids.

    Prowler

I have a long property line that goes over a hill. I could not see from one end to the other. I had a surveyor mark the line in a couple of places and drove in two steel posts to mark where I should mow to. After about a year my two posts disappeared. I got it surveyed again and this time I put two 8 ft pieces of telephone pole 4 feet in the ground with concrete. They have been there several years now. If my neighbor had come to me and asked me nicely to remove the steel posts, I would have. If I was sure he was the one that pulled them up without asking, I would put up a barbed wire fence along the property line. Asking before doing anything to another persons property goes a long way.
  12. This. I got the lifetime at age 67. Moneywise it did not make sense but aggravation wise it sure did.
  13. I ran into the same problem last night. Saw a S&W Model 617 .22lr revolver for $500. When I tried to contact the seller I was notified that I would have to upgrade my membership. I really wanted the gun but the buyer did not provide a phone number or email address.
  14. Ok, Let me tell you about a funny police chase. About 40 years ago I was running radar on a state highway. The speed limit was 40. An old Pontiac drove past me at 92. I chased it for about 5 miles but his car was faster than mine and when I got to 120 he was still pulling away from me. I was about to call off the chase when I saw his tail lights about a mile ahead pull off the side of the highway. When I got there he was out of his car and sitting on the trunk of the car. I pulled in and got out thinking that this looked like a set up keeping my hand on my revolver and looking all around. Why else would someone run from you for 5 miles then stop when he was clearly getting away? As I walked up to his car, he said to me " I'd have got away if I hadn't run out of gas, wouldn't I?". I replied yes you would have, Now get off the car and place your hands on top of it.

    A1 style AR?

I am about like you. In 2012, I called Rock River and got them to build me two AR-15;s. I got the fixed buttstock and the M2 fixed carry handle. I like the shorter 16 inch barrel but like the longer handguards better than the short carbine style. They suggested a mid length gas system and longer handguards. I rally like the look. It looks like a full size 20 inch, but they are a bit too heavy. I still have both of them unfired in the boxes. Back then I had an FFL and I think the cost was $775 each. You might check and see if they can put together what you want.
  16. I built a new 1900 sq ft house two years ago. Builder figured it at $250,000. Ended up costing $310,000. I would have been in way too much but for the fact it was on the lake and the lot has appreciated enough to make up for what I lost on the house. I love the house but if I were doing it over, I would have sold the lot and bought an existing home on the lake. Building is a losing proposition.
  17. I have a Simmons straight 4X on a Savage 93 FVSR and it has been a great combination. Had it 8 years now. Shoots great.
  18. The Netflix series " Ozark ". It is pretty good.
  19. I have a Mark II FVSR that I bought new about 8 years ago. From a bench it is a tackdriver. Shooting it offhand the barrel is too light and I have trouble hitting with it. I would go with a Ruger 10/22 if I were doing it over.
  20. I used to be a firearms dealer. A denial is fairly common with the Tennessee background check system. This state has it's own background check system. I probably had about 5% denied. About 80% of the denials were approved within 72 hours of submitting an appeal. The TICS people are probably overwhelmed by all the gun purchases going on right now. I would not be too worried about it for a couple of days.
  21. Best trade I ever made was guns for a boat. Twenty years ago I traded 25 new in the box Sig P series { P220, P228, P229, P226) pistols for a new pontoon boat. Kept the boat in the water all the time at my aunts dock on the lake. When she passed away she left me the lake lot. I built a new house on it two years ago and will live out the rest of my days here. Still have a pontoon down there in the boat dock.
  22. I'm about to turn 69. I sold most of my guns 4 years ago and used the money to help me upgrade my old house to a new one on the lake. I don't get around as well anymore and figured I should spend the rest of my days sitting on a boat dock. So far, I have not regretted my decision. I don't have a son or grand kids to leave any guns to and my daughter would rather have the house on the lake. I'm just glad that I sold them before the gun market bottomed out.
  23. Lets throw another murky question out here. I live on a 2 acre place on the lake. I recently learned that my property is zoned A-2 agricultural. My next door neighbor is zoned R-2 residential. Since my 2 acres are zoned agricultural and I grow a garden, would I qualify for the fishing exception? Not that it matters as I have a lifetime license. Just wondering as there seems to be no minimum property size.
  24. I heard the neighbors dog barking up a tree a while back. I walked over to see what he was barking at and was greatly surprised to see a big groundhog about 30 feet up in the tree. First time I had ever seen one in a tree.
  25. I retired early. First few years, I was bored to death. A couple of years ago, I had a new house built on the lake. I am finally at peace with slowing down and taking life easy. I would recommend figuring out what you are going to do in retirement before you pull the plug.
