  1. I'll add a few. I was just thinking about a thread like this the other day. 1. If you've not subscribed to Shooter's Nation - David has done a great job with this new effort. He can chime in here about the amount of work it takes to do a weekly podcast beyond just gathering the content, but it's a huge lift and he's done a great job. 2. Cocaine & Rhinestones - this was a commitment, but I really enjoyed the later episodes - especially the one on Doug and Rusty Kershaw. Also, if you're just going to listen to one - listen to the Wynonna one and you'll come away wondering how either of the Judd girls are still standing. 3. In the Dark (Season 2) - In my opinion this is the best podcast since season one of Serial - including season one of serial. It's great. And, following the podcast, the Supreme Court has taken up the case. 4. Farm to Taber - a bit of an odd choice, but this is a thoroughly enjoyable podcast on modern agriculture from a doctor of plant medicine out of North Carolina. 5. Atlanta Monster - this one probably messed up my world more than anything I listened to in 2018. It's about the Atlanta child murders that happened between 1979 and 1981. And, as someone who grew up in Atlanta during this time - if you asked me to draw a picture of the boogeyman, it would probably still look kind of like Wayne Williams. Fast forward 40 years - and they interview a bunch of victims' families who not only do they not believe that Wayne Williams didn't kill their son - they don't believe he killed anyone. Crazy. The podcast will leave you with as many questions as answers - and Williams is not a reliable narrator. But, it's a good listen. 6. Up and Vanished - by the same folks as Atlanta Monster - this follows the case of the murder of Tara Grimstead - a teacher in south Georgia who happens to be my same age. The podcast actually prompts renewed attention by the GBIU and results in two arrests 7. Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls - follows the stories of some historical women of accomplishment. My kids really enjoy this podcast 8. How I Built This - this is with the guy who does Ted Radio Hour - interviewing founders of companies you know. Start with the first one, where he interviews Sara Blakely the creator and founder of Spanx. 9. Make me Smart - this is probably my single favorite regular listen. It's from Kai Ryssdal and Molly Wood of Marketplace just discussing economics and issues of the week in real time. 10. Left, Right, and Center - nuanced political discourse without screaming. 11. The Promise - from WPLN here in Nashville - on several national top 10 lists this year. An in depth look at public housing in a growing city - specifically the James A. Cayce homes here in Nashville. It's short - maybe 6 episodes. There's a major plot twist in the middle. Well worth a listen I could add a few more - but unless you're on the road a lot over the holidays, this is a bunch of listening.
  2. Cool! I like those Tri-star grips.
  3. I've got a lot of questions about this video, but let's just agree that shooting incendiary rounds indoors is probably a bad idea: I'll admit I'm curious as to why a police department would be shooting these gimmicky rounds. And, who let the chick in flip flops into the range?
  4. I’ve hit a hog or two with those with good results.
  5. There's an older Burris pistol scope I like because it's got a 32mm tube and is brighter. The Leupold FX-II (I think - going from memory) is also a great scope - around $300 though. This is what I've got on an older 629 in .44Mag - and it's a great package.
  6. I know we’ve got some Surefire Sidekick fans here. County Comm (the website that costs me $50 every time I visit it) has them on sale for $38. https://countycomm.com/products/surefire-sidekick-ultra-compact-triple-output-keychain-light
  7. Cool. I didn't know this was a thing.
  8. There’s a reason you only hear good things about the MGW.
  9. I’m a Vanderbilt fan. I’m married to a woman who believes that if you’re good in life and you die, you go to Vince Dooley’s house for Sunday lunch or something like that. We’re not Vols fans. But, this is just embarrassing.
  10. If you want to be technically correct about post-Newtown gun legislation, the truest reason it didn’t come to pass was that Harry Reid wouldn’t let it come to a floor vote in the Senate. He wanted to give cover to red state Democrats by not forcing a vote. Times have changed so much in these last few years - but once upon a time Harry Reid, the Democratic Senate Majority Leader was A-rated by the NRA. Now, the GOP certainly played a role. They held the House, and would’ve made it difficult to pass anything restrictive. But, the Democrats in the Senate were the ones who really put a stop to it.
  11. Thanksgiving is hands down my favorite holiday. I hope each of your days are spent enjoying good food and company. Whether it’s the family you were born into or the family you’ve chosen - I hope that you’ll find yourself surrounded by blessings.
  12. I’m locking these threads that just straight up copy content from another site. Both for copyright reasons, and that they’re not adding any value to the conversation. Feel free to start a thread linking an article if you want - but add some original thought.
  13. There won’t be a buyback. They’ll give a date by which they’re to be turned in or destroyed, after which possession will be prosecuted as a felony. Compliance will likely be similar to Connecticut’s ban on assault weapons. Maybe a little higher - but still low double digits. I’d expect the feds will gather as many sales records as they can. They’ve likely already issued document preservation orders. Many of the companies - who are looking to avoid liability or who find themselves in receivership after bankruptcy will willingly comply. There are certainly paths to persue legal remedies to all of the above, but it’ll take deep pockets. And, since the NRA has already abandoned this issue, you’d risk financial ruin fighting it. Pay attention. This won’t be the last you see of this.
  14. A lower priced Leupold would be my choice as well.
  15. Elections do have consequences... Don’t screw it up to bad, and being an ex-President is usually a pretty good deal. Even Nixon made decent money in his later years.
  16. Huh. I don’t know that I ever noticed. I guess Barney only gets one bullet, but Andy goes loaded for bear. It’s been a lot of years, but I don’t ever recall seeing him with a long gun in any of the episodes.
  17. Truth. Empire is hard. So is math. The political reality of 2018 is that if you’re going to keep the lights on and the toilets flushing, both parties are really constrained in what they can actually hope to do. And, that’s even further constrained by what they can pass - even when they’ve got their hands on all the levers of power as the GOP recently has. The American path - in this late stage capitalism is largely determined. Either party can deviate maybe a couple of degrees in either direction. But, you’re staying on the path. Rhetoric is easy though - and it works. I’d love to see the average American really figure out that the political class at large - not simply the other party is just feeding them rhetoric to keep them punching down and focused elsewhere while they continue to loot the place.
  18. Criterion spun out of Kreiger, so for the most part you’re probably okay in terms of quality. For the cost difference, I don’t know that I’d stress too much about it either way.
  19. Let’s just hope Trump’s narcissism doesn’t have him start considering an easy “deal” with the Democratic House.
  20. I thought LEVERevolution ammo was designed with the polymer tip so you’d feel better about stuffing it in a tubular magazine? That’s what I’ve always used it for anyway.
  21. Looks like I might stock up a little. $4.97/box is hard to beat.
  22. All of them. I've always had great results with 150gr Remington Core-Lokt and Federal Power Shok.
  23. Oh, I’m sorry to hear this, Greg. I truly believe that God shows his love for us through the devotion our dogs show us. There’s no other creature on the planet that’s as capable of loving unconditionally like a dog.
  24. Huh. That is a crazy story.
  25. To the French and English especially, but certainly other European countries, WWI is the Great War. The US didn’t get involved until late. But, the French lost more than 1.5 million. The UK, over a million. The French literally lost a generation of men. Thats why these ceremonies still carry such weight. That weighs on families for a long time.
