  1. The 1911 looking 22s seem nice, I have no experience with them, so I can't give you a pros and cons. IMO the Ruger MK series is one of the best 22 pistols out there, since you have experience with them you know they are built like a rock, shoot well and eat up any ammo you throw at them. Plus, there is all the customizing you can do to them. I personally favor the MKII.
  2. HK USP 40 SS, still own it, still shoot it (when I am home) still looks like new, 1999.
  3. Try a Beretta PX4, the price is in the Glock price range and I believe you'd really like shooting it. Glocks are good gun, but they always had the habit of brassing the shooter.
  4. That is a good looking rifle, I love the fact that one can do so much to a 10/22.
  5. Very nice, those things are super fun to shoot. Hopefully the quality is better than my Vector.
  6. Mossberg and Maverick are decent budget guns, however their actions are not as smooth as Remington 870 or Winchester 1300 Defender. IMO a home defense shotgun should have a smooth action and high capacity, so you can chamber rounds faster and when needed put more rounds down range. The 1300 defender speed pump is a great budget shotgun and fun to shoot, I think you get 8+1 and a fast pump. I have a custom 870 with a recoil reducing stock with a 10+1 capacity, I prefer shooting a Benelli M1, but prefer the reliability of a pump for home defense.
  7. There should be certified instructors around your area, who would be able to teach you the proper basics of handgun handling and more.
  8. Glad to hear a tragedy was averted, and no one went home with extra holes. Most people are clueless when comes to firearm safety, that is why when I am home and go shooting i try to choose stations far away from everyone else.

    Got my Tavor

Thanks Verne, That is what I was hearing and needed confirmation. Maybe I just needed a reason to buy some gen 3 mag... :)

    Got my Tavor

I'm waiting to hear from Copes on mine, they do seem to be very well built rifles. Do they take regular M16 mags or do we need magpul gen3 mags or something like that?

    Shot show Tavor

I backordered 2 in Dec. they said it should be ready around March :) Yeah I panicked and got 2. The site does not carry them any more :(
  12. I got a Mega MATEN with the modular handgaurds before LMT sued them. A really nice item. Unfortunately I have not been home to start work and build it up. Still trying to find a propper lower parts kit for it. For barrel, I am thinking of copying the M110 or even go abit longer.
  13. A very cool story, and a cool deputy as well.
  14. You got some really good advices here specially from Mike, Dave and Viscero, I am just going to add a little on those. First let her choose whatever she feels comfortable with (and she can manipulate with ease i.e. pull the back, remove/load mag...) , but before doing so you guys need to figure out what is the main purpose for this handgun. If it is going to be a range only gun, I suggest you guys should look at some 22LR's, I've seen more females have more fun just plinking with a 22 than any other caliber. If it is to be dual purpose -range + defense- then I'd suggest 9mm, as said by others, 9mm is a must have in any household since ammo is decently priced and available, plus it is a bit more friendly to shoot by the gentler of the sexes than 40 or 45. One huge misconception lots of poeple have is smaller gun = to less of a recoil, which is mostly wrong, so I'd suggest a fullsize pistol for her for ease of shooting. There are many well made full size 9mm pistols which would do(and have smaller grips), like XD, M&P,FN, Walter P99 (these are decently priced)(side note since she likes the PK380 have her try the P99AS she'd like that). I usually don't recommens Glock to females for 2 reasons, one harder to load mags and two it is abit more unforgiving to limp wristing than other polymer frame handguns, which result in stove pipes. Good luck. addred later: Beretta PX4 is nice as well.
  15. I am glad no one was hurt, GnL has been my store to go since I moved to Tn. The folks there especially Daniel have been always helpfull whenever I've been there. I hope a couple of items I had setting there waiting for me to come back stateside were rescued as well.
  16. I lived the the SF bay area. Santa Clara.
  17. Unless something changed in the last couple of years since I moved out of Ca, Colt is one of the companies that is on the ban list for Ca civilians. LE can own them for duty purposes, and civilians who had them prior to 2000 and have them registered can own them as well. here is the list , not the (ALL) next to colt. Attachment 4. 18. If you are selling to someone in Ca, you need to find out from the buyer which FFL would accept your AR as it is. The FFL can make the rifle Ca legal once they recieve it before releasing it to the buyer. One thing to remember is there are certain brands that are not allowed to be sold in Ca. Brands like Colt, Armalite, RRA, and a few others - for a full list visit Calguns-. Most off brand newly made ones- Stag, CMMG, ... are not on that list so they can be sold in Ca without any problem. Also once you find out the FFL's name find out from them if they accept shippings from a private seller, or if they want it shipped through a Tn FFL. Another thing to remember is you can not ship any mags to Ca that have a capacity of more than 10 rounds.
  19. I once tried this with phone books, and was able to recover the bullets.
  20. I can't remmeber the movie, it was in the 90's but the guns just pop into my head as most outragous, They had these M4 looking rifles, with rotating barrels kinds like a M4 minigun.
  21. This could be just me, but why would one want to trade a MKII for a MKIII? MKII's don't have the silly BS add ons like the loaded chamebr indicator, mag safely and silly looking trigger parts like the MKIII's. Maybe I am getting old. 22/45s are fun though.
  22. I thought you had found a P210 for less than $1000 and I was gonna out bid you
  23. I went with the Mega-Ten lower and upper sets awhile back. Have not had the chance to work on it yet, but it is compatible with both DPMS and Armalite parts, and it take the magpul mags. There is a website that couls be of help, I think it is called AR10parts.com or something like that. I have not been researching lately, work and all, but a quick seach would give you much ideas.
