  1. Shared on Facebook and re-posted on my Tennessee-centric forum. Also sending out a note to my forum members.
  2. I've purchased from them. Gun arrived in about a week to my FFL. No problems at all.
  3. Fair enough. But you should know that LION cells don't just "short out" or shock you. They simply blow up like nice little sticks of dynamite. Quite capable of doing some serious damage to everything around them.
  4. Don't turn loose of that 4.0. I'd take one of those over either the 3.8 or the new 3.6L "Pentastar" engine. The 4.0 might be old tech, but it's a proven workhorse. My 2012 JKU does alright with the 3.6 and it's a huge step up from the 3.8... but I'd take an old 4.0 I6 in a heartbeat. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2
  5. That looks awful good for a "field find"! Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2
  6. Lots and lots of clips of the news coverage on YouTube. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2
  7. I've flown with AA and United quite a bit over the past year. I get stuck with whichever offers the lowest ticket price at the time of booking (corporate policy thing). I've never really had any problems with either company. Flying to Kansas City via United next week, in fact. The most annoying part of flying is dealing with the TSA. If the plane can get me from point A to point B I'm happy. Also never check luggage. I can get a week out of a carry-on bag. Guess that really limits my interaction with the airline staff.
  8. A number of companies make camp cook sets out of aluminum. That obviously isn't anything definitive from a safety perspective, but the practice is, at least, fairly common. As for the Kelly Kettle, they're a tad expensive and bulky for me. It's a solid design though and would probably serve you well. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2
  9. The online course is ran by a third party amd they do charge. It's around $20 to print the certificate from them that you have to take to the Saturday "field day" event. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2
  10. Not sure how to help with your wiring issue, but good choice on the Nest. Yes, they're expensive. I have the Gen1 model that I purchased at discount when the v2 came out.  The monthly "energy usage" reports are fascinating and you can see the cycle time of your heat or air down to the 15 minute interval for the entire month using the web tools.  The "auto away" feature is nice as well since it "learns" when you're home (or not) and adjusts the thermostat accordingly when you are away.   I replaced a honeywell programmable thermostat with the Nest. The savings are there even though I thought I had the Honeywell t-stat programmed for energy-conserving temps.  The Nest is just better at it I suppose.   Nest tech support is also great if you need them.
  11. This. Probably more important than any medication. I was on diabetes meds until I decided to "fix it". Now medication free and an HBa1c of 5.2 (normal). Can anyone do that? Maybe. Probably not. I'd wager in some cases beta cell function is too far gone to completely eliminate meds. However, I do know it makes a huge difference. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2
  12. Appreciate it gentlemen. I'm building a couple more of these for some kids in the family. I test fit this one on my 12 year old and with a few adjustments it fit great. Empty pack weight is ~8lb. So, a few lb heavier than your average Kelty external frame pack, but I'd wager this will be much more durable.
  13. So, what happens when you put together a medium ALICE pack, ALICE frame, MOLLE straps, and a MOLLE sleep system carrier? You get what is affectionately known as the "Hellcat" pack by the dude who originally did a write-up on it over on Survivalist Boards. In any case, I built this one to try out. I'm out of town this weekend, but I'm looking forward to giving it a go. It is very adjustable and should adjust all the way through the range of kids (age 10+ probably) to adult torso sizes. It's not as lightweight as today's ultralight packs (obviously), but it's not painfully heavy by any means.
  14. Agreed. Actually, for home use I usually use Virtualbox. Quick and easy to set up. Not as feature rich as Hyper-V but for tinkering around with OS containers here at the house it works fine. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2

    DragonCon 2013

Yeah, that almost happened to me too..and I put my request for the days off in back in January.  I've had the hotel room booked since 2 days after last year's DragonCon.
  16. True. It's generally pretty easy to find a road, trail or major landmark if you've even just glanced at a map and have a compass to keep you moving in a straight line. In most cases being an expert in land navigation is not required to recover from being "lost". A compass? Yeah...that's important. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2

  18. Anyone heading to Atlanta over Labor Day Weekend for DragonCon?    I went last year and it was a blast. 19. My recently acquired M&P9C has a nice and audible one-click reset. Definitely seems better than some of the older ones I've shot. Perhaps they've already started doing this? Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2
  20. That's the nature of the beast in our profession :) Bah! Our jobs never fail. I can say that with certainty because I am *not* the person on the after hours support rotation this week. When I'm on call? Yeah, things break nightly.
  21. It really isn't expensive when working with the paste. A little goes a long way. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2
  22. ADT offers a similar service (ADT Home Health). Not sure how it compares price-wise to Life Alert, but I do know the monitoring/response service is handled by the ADT team in Knoxville. Some good people on the other end of the line. Just something to consider *if* ADTs pricing is competitive (they can be a bit more expensive on things). If Life Alert is substantially cheaper I'd probably go that route. Disclaimer: I work for the company, but have absolutely nothing to do with customer operations or sales. I just know a lot of the people in the home health services group. :D
  23. In all seriousness you should definitely go if you ever get the chance... It's on my list of places I'd love to visit, but obviously not anytime soon. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2
  24. Ugh. Oh to have an indoor range close by..... I might get to shoot occasionally that way. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2
  25. Stroud, on the other hand - while undoubtedly 'tougher' than your average person - is not 'superhuman', appears to be genuinely trying to hone survival skills rather than thrill seeking and generally did not take unnecessary risks on his show and cautioned others against doing so. He certainly wasn't 'timid' about doing what had to be done but was a lot more practical about the risks of injury in a survival situation and realizing that such risks should be avoided when possible. Not sure about Grylls, but Stroud is a very genuine and humble guy in person. Had the pleasure of meeting him last year.
