Hi all, I have shot mine very little, but need to buy some ammo. Is there a particular off the shelf .223/.556 that seems to be more accurate? Thanks AJ

hey guys, I recently ran across a rare find ( I guess). Found 420 rounds of 5.56 ball ammunition still in bandoliers with the stripper clips and quick loaders all in the original green military steel ammo can. the bandoliers have a date of Mar 1971 (iirc). Anybody have any insight on if its safe to shoot? it looks like any other ammo ive ever seen but the brass is tarnished. A193 is the nomenclature of the ammo I believe. What would it be worth? as I no longer have an AR.

Purchased the software about a year ago. Then realized ‘garbage in=garbage out’ so I then purchased a Pro Chrono for velocity measurements. I would like to spend some time with someone who is experienced with the software to learn “tip, tricks and traps” to get me over the initial hump of learning how to use Quickload. I’m a little overwhelmed with what the software can do and I am over analyzing everything. “Analysis Paralysis” I’ve printed out the Quickload manual and read through it several times. I do have many years of reloading behind my belt and recently got back into it after divorce, college, raising family and other life events that shifted my priorities. Could some kind soul allow me to spend an afternoon with them so I can pick their brains and experience? Willing to travel an hour or so and provide pizza and refreshments for your time.

I have inherited a WWII bring back from my step father who inherited it from his father that brought it back from WWII and would like to shoot it. So I'm looking for a soft load but being a chrome bore it really likes the high velocity ammo. Does anyone have any powder they would recommend for it. I am not looking for recipes as I will work up a load slowly, just looking for powder recommendations. Thanks every!

Does anyone have a box or two of 5MM ammo they don't need anymore and might want to sell? It is impossible to find it new. Thanks guys.

I recently bought some primed 35 whelen brass from A&H Reloading in Nashville out of the bins of brass. Does anyone know what kind of primers are used in the primed hornady brass? Also, do they need to be resized?

I plan to use my Marlin 336 this year for whitetail. My shots won’t be over 50 yards max. Having never hunted with a 30-30 what ammo have you had the best luck with?

Reading elsewhere I saw a statement that Tennessee has a special tax on ammo. Since we will soon be moving to Tennessee, should I be bringing a truckload of ammo with me?

Today I stopped by Walmart in need of 30-06 as I don’t want to break into my stash of HXP M2 ball held in reserve to feed the Garand. They have Federal Power-Shock 150 gr SP for $11.97/box. Cheapest they sell so that’s what I wanted. Looked it up later to see what I bought and it appears Federal is running a $5 per box rebate. Score. It might take three months to get that $10 back but when it’s all said and done that’s a mighty fine price for ammo. I’m cheap like that.

Has anyone tried this ammo ? Dunham's has it on sale today and tomorrow only for $17.99. I need more 22 ammo like I need another hole in my head but, as they say, there's no such thing as having too much ammo

I always check my 9mm's by seeing if they will drop into my pistol barrel plus I'll try to make them as idienticle as factory target ammo but I was thinking of getting a Headspace gauge for easier measuring and saving time. When looking I saw the Hornady Headspace gauge that says its for 9mm in 9x19 AND 9x21 . I may be having a brain fart but the 9x21 case is longer and since the case headspaces on the case mouth , wouldn't that gauge read them differently ? Excuse me if I am wrong or confused. I thought you'd need a different gauge for each of those two rounds .

You just never know what you'll find when you go digging around your ammo stores... I stumbled across an ammo can containing 2 unopened battle packs and 1 opened, but full, battle pack of the 5.56 ammo pictured below. iirc I've had this since the early 1990's. I've not had much success locating it on the interwebs. It's 344 A 86 5.56 Ball M1A3 in 300 round battlepacks. South African maybe? Anyone familiar with this 5.56? Thanks in advance, Jamie

Here's the question. I cast 100 .452 RNFP (Lee Die) 255gr bullets. Because of the high antimony content the bullets averaged out at 222gr. What if any considerations should I take into account for the weight difference? My first thought is that I would stick with 255gr load data as the size of the round is the same thus limiting case capacity. I would assume that velocity would more then likely increase since weight is different, unless the bearing surface of the bullet actually has more of an effect then the overall weight. Anyways, let the speculation begin. Round Details Caliber: 460 Rowland Powders: Accurate #7 / #5 Brass: Starline (New) Primers: Winchester (LP)

https://palmettostatearmory.com/case-of-1000-rounds-fiocchi-shooting-dynamics-223-rem-55-gr-fmj-ammunition-223a.html This is the cheapest I have seen brass 223 ammo in awhile. Maybe I just don't know the cheapest place to buy. Thoughts?

Just saw this today. They are calling it the 30-30 for the AR. Anyone know anything about it? https://www.ammoland.com/2018/08/new-300-hamr-cartridge-rifles-loaded-ammunition-barrels-components-and-accessor/#axzz5P8f87qij

Got 4 bags of assorted 303 ammo @ estate sale . About 20 rds. each. Most have age related stains .Would it be safe to put 'em in the Vibrashine in small batches ? Mostly 1943 vintage.

I may have made a thread on this , but I don't remember so forgive me if I did , I searched and didn't find one. I have been reloading 9mm for 4 years and started 45acp months ago. I hear people that have horror stories about blowing up there Glock 21 and 30's with reloads. Do any of you guys know if this is because of reloaders not paying attention or is the Glock chamber a lot bigger and weakens the brass quicker ? Or anything else ? Thanks for any information.

Anyone around Columbia process their own lead and cast? I’ve been reloading for a couple of years and am now curious about casting. Would like to find someone near by who wouldn’t mind me hanging out while they go through the steps. I’ve seen plenty of YouTube videos but would like to see it first hand before I dive into it. Have been collecting lead for a while and just not sure if it’s right for me yet.

Sierra Bullets has been acquired by Clarus Corporation (NASDAQ: CLAR) for the sum of $79,000,000, “subject to a post-closing working capital adjustment”. Sierra is one of the world’s leading producers of bullets for hunters, sportsmen, and target shooters. With revenues topping $30,000,000 per year, Sierra has long been a major force in the firearms world. Clarus, formerly Black Diamond Inc., is a Utah-based holding company which “seeks opportunities to acquire and grow businesses that can generate attractive shareholder returns”. Clarus also owns Black Diamond Equipment, Ltd., maker of outdoor equipment/clothing for the climbing, skiing and mountain sports markets. http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2017/08/sierra-bullets-being-acquired-by-clarus-corporation/

Has anybody but me had a problem with cases splitting on once fired 30-30? 9 out of 10 of mine split at the neck the first time I try to reload them. After trying 50 or so cases I gave up.

Tired of the noise and wear with my vibrating tumbler. Any thoughts about rotary tumblers (wet or dry) and brand suggestions? Considering Frankfort Arsenal Platinum Series

I found an article very interesting in Guns & Ammo this month. The manufacturer of the topic is: http://www.truevelocityinc.com/ I immediately thought of weight savings in using polymer instead of brass casings, but something that did not occur to me is that weapons will operate cooler on the polymer casings. Brass transfers heat quite well, polymer doesn't. As such, when fired, once the casing is ejected, most of the heat goes with it. Of course the barrel will still get hot, but the brass will no longer directly transfer heat to the chamber and surournding parts. I found that interesting. Through their tests, an M134 minigun operates 20% cooler at the bore on these rounds. I am now convinced that polymer ammo will likely be the future of shooting, at least until we get ray guns. The article didn't mention anything about it, but I doubt that these casings can be reloaded. I'm sure there will always be a brass segment to the market for reloading, but if factory brass ammunition widely disappears, it will have to contribute to a rise in the cost of reloading. I'd like to buy a box of 5.56 from them, but I don't think they are selling commercially yet. I just think the rounds look cool, and I'd like to buy a box to keep just in case some flaw is found in the idea and never catches on.
