Done with Sig Optics

Vent/Rant.  solely for that purpose. 

I had a Kilo 2000 range finder.  Sig CS said it was made in 2016.  I bought it new from a shop here in town. 

I went to use it out the other day, and couldn't read the display.  I changed the battery and it was no different.  - searched the web and found an absolute avalanche of failures on these units.  I called in today, and they would do nothing.  No repair, nothing.   ... except 20% off on any optics from their store.  ... you mean the ones that won't last  past the warranty exp date?  No thanks.

They say this range finder has a 5yr Electronics warranty - the "Unlimited Lifetime Guarantee" is on the mechanical even though it says nothing about that on the initial warranty page. On a monocular digital range-finder, the electronics ARE the unit. period.  It makes zero sense to warrant mechanics past the warranty for the electronics... unless you were trying to lure a purchase with a false guarantee.   The kilo is in the trash.  I am done with Sig Optics.  There are waaay better companies to give business to.

Here are the adjacent pages from the manual for this unit... which follow the marketing at the time - which was... misleading.  There is nothing on the first page that remotely hints of an exception to total coverage.  Just an FYI:  All of the Sig electro-optics now say "5yr warranty" on the product page.   

Oh well, yeah, trash is gross. hahaha... it's about the way I feel about Sig right now.

I have been known to throw stuff like that away myself-

I have a lot of Vortex optics and have had a Spitfire that they replaced-

I believe Sig optics are hit or miss. Never owned one personally but 3 guys I know who are Sig fanboys have had failures and Sig wouldn't stand behind the warranty.  They've since spent their hard earned cash elsewhere

I recently bought a Sig Buckmasters (economy) scope for my .243 and I love it. I think I got a great value for the money. But as in all things, YMMV.

Look into Cylee Optics. They are a lot less $and perform well. They're also reviewed well.

Thats really disappointing.  I have a couple Sig optics.  Zulu 7 binoculars and a Kilo.  If the rangefinder ever dies I'll just use that as an excuse to buy Range Finding Binoculars.  I actually had a pair of Zulu 8x42's that my 5 year old threw down our steps.  Sig did replace them but with 10x42's since they didnt make the 8x42's anymore.  I do love the binoculars, incredible glass.

I've had two whiskey3 scopes and several romeo optics with no issues. Currently in the market for 3 to 4 new optics and I will definitely keep this in mind. Was really considering a sig tango6t, buuuuutttttt.....

Their pistol optics are horrible. I’ve seen many failures in person.

So...what optic company DOES offer a lifetime warranty on the electronic components? I'm not aware of any, so whoever you go with will be "SIG"ing you in a few years, too.

But I respect your complaint/rant! The Sig Sauer Electro-Optics Infinite Guarantee DOES sound like everything is covered...right up until you get to page two. That's misleading. It's called the ELECTRO-OPTICS guarantee. The title itself mentions "electro" & guarantee. Then page two tells you to get lost if the 'electro' part goes t/i/t/s up. Not cool. But...again...I think ALL optics company limit the electronic part of the warranty. 

Rather than trash the rangefinders, I'd disassemble them. You've got nothing to lose at this point. Maybe you find some corrosion you can clean up or a lose wire you can resolder. Or not. But worth a look since Sig already kicked you to the curb. Best time to see what goo is inside Stretch Armstrong, so to speak.

My Sig Kilo also went TU this year, Half the display when ranging is so faded you cannot read the numbers. I see the very same failure on the Sig forums and elsewhere. Sucks it cost a good chunk of change only to fail and have no support. Not like they were cheap, budget units.

That's one thing about technology that bugs me.... it causes irretrievable failures in things that would otherwise work forever. I'm old, so I didn't grow up with things like built-in range finders, but I'd rather have my scope just be a scope.  Same with other stuff, too. I don't want fancy electronic displays in my car, because I keep my cars a long time and I suspect those displays are going to fail long before the engine will, and that the parts will be unavailable in ten years.
