Holy 2+ year thread revive Batman! It threw me off just reading through the last few post and I kept seeing Mars posting. Thought I was seeing a ghost for a minute!:D

That's got to be a record for following up on a thread right there! Impressive, LA_357SIG. ;)

My "retirement" firearm will be a Hamilton Bowen Smith & Wesson HD conversion to .45 Colt with Dan Love engraving and Paul Persinger grips.

And YES - - - I will Shoot it!

As my follow-up..., Found a good, solid post-war S&W Heavy Duty as part of my "retirement package." I'm standing in line with tons of others waiting for Bowen to call me to send it in for the .45 Colt conversion.

I added the Elk Bone grips and did an action job. Later I sent the trigger and hammer off to have them re-case harden. Its such a sweet shooter that I'm beginning to think about a .38-40 conversion instead.

That is one very nice revolver :nervous:

Thanks!

What has gotten me to thinking about going with the .38-40 conversion instead of the .45 Colt is:

1. Ballistically, it is similar to the .40 S&W, sharing the same bullet diameter, bullet weight and velocity. 180g - 1,160ft/s - 538 ft.lbf.

2. All the conversion needs is a counterbore of the cylinder & barrel.

3. Its a Cool Old West round with the Winchester name.

4. You can even buy it in a Black Powder load, which would make things very interesting in an IDPA revolver-only match.

5. I don't have anything in .38-40, but already have a couple handguns in .45 Colt. Therefore logic requires that I have something in .38-40.

6. Several gunsmiths do the .38-40 conversion, quicker turn around.

7. AND - - - I'm getting tried of waiting on Hamilton Bowen now that he is famous.

Here is a pic.

.40 S&W, .38-40 WIN, .44 S&W Spl, .45 ACP

I've got (both used) Springfield Armory GI model 1911 & a Kel-tech P-11 in layaway at a local pawn shop.

I seem to find that my "SHORT" list of guns I want, well, it's not a very short list.

I'm wanting a used Smith 4" .38

and also a new 1911. I have enough now for a RIA, but I might go Springfield double stack or if I can find a good deal on a Para.

The boss man said he is going to get me a desert eagle 1911 for a bonus after our current job is finished. He is a DE fan so the gun i choose has to come from thier line of guns so i picked their 1911

I got a bonus coming in three weeks and I will be the proud owner of a new Glock 19.

I got bowling league payoff in a few weeks, and I'll be the proud owner of a Glock 22.

My last three "gotta have" guns, I didn't know how much I had to have them until I saw, and then held them.
