What's the best 1911 holster?

Well I just bought my first 1911 and now I am looking for my first holster for it. I have always had paddle holsters for my other pistol. But I am looking fo something more concealed now. I really like the idea of inside the pant holster because it will not hang off my side like my holsters are. Any ideas or opinions?

Holsters are like religions. Everyone's got their opinion on which is the best, and everyone else's sucks.

I have Comp-Tac MTAC, Raven Concealment Phantom (OWB) and Milt Sparks VM2 for my 1911s. By far the most comfortable IWB holster for me is the Milt Sparks VM2. The MTAC is a reasonably close second with the added advantage that you can get one in under two weeks generally.

That said, if you're used to carrying with a paddle holster :( then you're probably going to be blown away by the difference ANY of these make when you're concealing.

Mitch Rosen ARG, comfortable for all-day carry and I wear everything from jeans and a T-shirt to tailored suits without it printing. Got one for my Kimber Compact, and another on the way for my 5" (coming whenever Kimber decides to send it).

If I was a lean, mean fighting machine like you, I wouldn't even bother carrying a gun. :(

I just received a Milt Sparks Summer Special II for my commander. Its very comfortable. I am also planning on getting a MTAC or the Spartan because its cheaper and then using some mole skin on the backside of the leather. I've thought about the VM2 from Sparks as well, but the MTAC or the Spartan gets just about as good reviews and its half the price. If your an "all leather" kind of guy, I guess you'd go for a Sparks. The quality is beyond any I've had my hands on. Try Brownells for the MS SSII or Lightning Arms Sports for the VM2. The prices are actually not that bad for skipping the wait time if you were to order directly from Milt Sparks.

I have had a few holsters for a fullsize 1911. I have tried the Milt Sparks, Alessi, and the Brommeland. To me the Brommeland was the most comfortable to wear. All were equal in quality and you would be happy with any of them.

Does the type of 1911 particularly matter?

If you're referring to size, a full size 1911 is just as easy to conceal as a 3" 1911 with the right holster.

I'm afraid you're going to have to do what the rest of us did - buy several and see which one works best for you.

High noon holsters makes a pretty good holster too. My favorite is a broken in Galco concealed holster from eBay that I paid ~$50 shipped. I am not a big fan of waiting up to 3 months to receive a holster.

Milt Sparks, for sure (if you can wait 8-10 months).

Galco would be my second choice, though there are other "good" holsters out there.

Personally, I would put in an order for Milt Sparks on the first day next month, and buy a Royal Guard from Galco in the mean time.
