So who actually open carrys?

Recommended Posts

I OC about 90% of the time. The other 10%, I cover the OC with my shirt.

I find it to be more a lot more comfortable, especially in the summer. In the winter, I usually have something on that covers it anyway.

What I have learned about OC is that 70% of the people don't ever even notice YOU, much less your weapon. The next 29% are either pro-gun or don't care. 1% of the time, I get some surprised looks.

Glad to hear it, hopefully people will start to be more accustomed to it and it won't seem as taboo. I've OC'd at the wal-mart gas stations, grocery stores, buddy's bbq...all sorts of places w/o incident. I'm amazing that most people don't even notice!!!

People notice. they either don't care or they act like little bed wetters and leave. I've open carried on several occasions. Mostly just to and from the range and I've never been harassed. I've gotten funny looks of course and have been asked If i was a LEO by a complete stranger at one time but no real negative response so far. Unless i'm unlawfully carrying in a posted area then nothing bad will happen if someone does panic and call the police. Other than the inconvenience of course. I'm willing to live with that should it ever happen. TN is an open carry state and I beleive in open carry under a situational basis. I'm not going to pull a kwik and in fact im not carrying at all most of the time but I'm not going to shy away from carrying my handgun in the open just to avoid a confrontation from some dweeb who hates guns.

Those kind of people are either going to have to accept that we have the right to own and carry our firearms and get the **** over it.

I normally CC, but I will OC from time to time. Just depends on where I'm going and what I'm doing. Even when I do CC it's not deep cover. I don't believe in burying it so deep it's useless.

Ditto. I stop to buy fuel or run into a convience store and a few other places while OCing. I open carry more in summer than winter. I hate having my gun against my skin and sweating. Most of the time I CC in the winter. It is just easier then. Even when CCing in the summer as soon as I get to a place where I can I push my shirt between the gun and skin.

I don't carry at all but I did see my first open carrier this weekend. I was cool with it because I thought "Hey, if I talk to that guy he might let me shoot his gun at the range that will not be names"

When I got closer I saw a badge. But it didn't look quite right. When he walked by I noted it was one of those HCP badges you can get for a few bucks.

So while I respected the guy at first for OCing my opinion went way down when I discovered he was just another CQ, err, pretend secret policeman.

Exactly. I got a clip draw for my Kel-Tec and didn't put on an undershirt and man...not a good feeling to be 100 degrees and have that thing rubbing against my side.

Dude a cop is about the last thing I would think of if I saw you OCing, LOL

I do not do it as I do not want the attention it will bring. Stay gray.

bahahaha Mike I completely agree. I look like I'm about 15 years old so I am surprised myself.

I would guess I pocket carry (P3AT in a re-purposed BlackBerry holster) probably 95% of the time, the rest is OC on my hip. Pocket carry has gotten so second nature by now, that the only time I OC is when I will be doing outdoor activities where having it in my pocket is awkward.

Most of the time I CC, but do occasionally OC after work to a coffee shop where I am a regular and for other quick errands on the way home. My holster is a tuckable IWB so I will just slide it in without taking the time to untuck and retuck my shirt. Sometimes I will also OC when I walk the dogs around the complex I live in. Most of the time if I OC, I am just being lazy and not taking the time to conceal. Of course I also wear tshirts a lot and don't really pay a whole lot of attention to how much I may be printing so I'd imagine sometimes I am inadvertently OCing.

If i am not pocket carrying my wifes gun, i will wear my on my hip and pull my t-shirt over it....if it gets seen, oh well, if it doesn't, oh well....and i am pretty sure it prints real easy since i need to get a better holster.....

I OC at work, but I work in a gunshop, so nobody cares, and most people seem to expect it. I OC other places rarely, and it's usually for some specific reason, such as, I left to go to lunch and didn't take my vest because I was planning on going through the drive through. There is one particular burger shop I go to sometimes that doesn't have a drive through and I forget that because the one near my house does have drive through. Very rarely does anybody even seem to notice, although one time at the burger shop, I overheard some guys at a table saying I couldn't get a "real" cop job so I had to settle for a rent-a-cop job. I happened to think it was funny (their ignorance) because I wasn't wearing anything that could have remotely been thought of as a uniform, so I wondered why their first thought was "security guard."

I carry a G36 OWB covered with a shirt. I guess that's semi-OC. The only reaction I get is crap from my wife. She doesn't want the attention it might bring.

For poops and giggles, I OC'd in Autozone on Summer Avenue here in Memphis around 8-9pm one night. Not the best area of town. Place was crowded. Long line in the "get help from the expert" line and as I walked by, a couple of peoples looked at me. I went back to the oil rack, and a woman was there, she kind of did a double take, but she didn't run off or anything. The Check out girl didn't even look I don't think. There were some "rough" looking characters in that store.

But 99.9% of the other time, I OC.
