I don't drink whiskey often, but when I do.....Jack or George?

Recommended Posts

Are we talking black? :) George is certainly better.

For a few bucks more, you can get some totally decent tasting whiskey... well, drinkable whiskey, at least.

There's a reason JD is the #1 best-selling brand in the world. It simply tastes better. Recently, I overheard someone ordering "Dickel and Drop" - George Dickel and SunDrop. YUCCCH!

Totinos one dollar frozen pizza is the best selling pizza. It's not because it's the best. It's because people buy it. The two do not go hand and hand.

Jack is cheap, well advertised, and over-hyped. That's why it's the best selling.

Don't take it personal now! I'm not saying that your taste in whiskey is wrong. I'm just saying your taste in whiskey is bad :P

I had to state that Jack was the best selling whiskey, but I didn't say it was the best tasting whiskey. I have tried the stuff they make in Kentucky and what they make in Scotland. My ancestors left Scotland in search for some good whiskey and they went to Ireland. They were so disappointed that they said "Screw this, lets go to America and make our own whiskey." So they came to America in 1756, Suffolk County Virginia and headed straight for Tennessee, then they turned left, crossed the Tennesee River and settled in North Alabamer. They made some good whiskey from what I've heard....................

Agree that Woodford Reserve is wonderful. Makes a super Mint Julep but is best sipped on a couple of rocks. There's alot of good stuff out there... about as many as there are tastes of the consumers it seems.

You won't find one under 50. But if you do, buy the case.

I very much enjoy scotch and bourbon (macallan, oban, knob creek, pappy van winkle), but JD Single Barrel Select with 2 ice cubes is one of my all time favorites.

Jack Daniels is okay to mix. I like Gentleman Jack on the rocks. I think it actually tastes good. I haven't had much Dickel and it has been a long time. I really like Jim Beam Red Stag, also just over ice. That stuff is danged tasty. One of my favorite bourbons I have tried is Rebel Yell. I like it better than Buffalo Trace or Knob Creek.

Dangit, you boys are making me sad that I'm having to mostly avoid libations right now due to health issues.

You know, I've heard whiskey will not age in a glass bottle, but I just finished a bottle of Cutty Sark given to me by an old man that ran a liquor store in the 60's and 70's. It was 12yrs old when bottled and best he and I can figure, it's been in his basement for nearly 40 years. I've got brand new bottles of cutty sark, Black label JW, Glenlivet and others, but NONE, NEVER, EVER have I had scotch as smooth. Fill level was even about an inch lower than it should have been. I certainly miss that bottle.

I'd like to try The Macallan but can't find a bottle under $50.
Not gonna find it under $50 but it is worth the price they are asking. Get the cask strength with a splash of water to bring out the flavors.

that stuff is not whisky.

Once the spirit is out of the barrel it no longer ages. Fill level might have been lower for any number of reasons. If the lid was not sealed well evaporation would be a prime suspect. Cutty is also a lower tiered scotch, the recipe may have changed since when yours was made.

Details, details.... it's smooth, has good flavor, and produces the desired effect.

I've been getting the small 375ml bottles of various things just to see what's out there. That way it's not a big deal if I don't like something (I poured out a bottle of Johnny Walker Red... :) ). It doesn't seem The Macallan comes in small bottles.

I really like Old Charter. I've drank that most of my drinking life. My dad drank it. I really like it. Recently I've been drinking other stuff due to price. Im cheap. I do prefer to mix with some diet coke, but I can and will drink it in the rocks occasionally. I'm drinking Evan Williams with Caffeine free diet coke right now!
