iPhone 5s .... Fingerprints

Yes, but now the dots are connected from our gov. ID to our consumer ID... what we search for on the Internet, what we ask Siri to do, what we purchase, take pictures of, text, type, etc.... :) Oh, and where we've been and where we are at any given moment. **undeniable in court because of a time stamp with a confirmed epithelial sample. ....sent from my iPhone 4s. :( Edited by Peace

Uninstalled all the Apps on my Galaxy couple of days ago when I actually took the time to read the request on data and devices. Installing Amazon app clicked on "Amazon App requests use of your camera" among others and saw "Amazon App is authorized to use your Camera and Video Camera at any time without confirmation".

See not option to opt out while still being able to use the App. All of them have the same popup.

no thanks

Not sure if you were using the app store app or the store app, but I grabbed a couple of screen shots and didn't see that about the camera. I know the store app uses the camera for barcode scanning.

Root (android phones) and then block app permissions you don't like. That way you keep the app to use if u need it but it cannot access your camera, or connect to the internet or use your GPS.

Google is supposedly working to make permission management a built-in feature of Android.

Some years ago was a SF short story where all house locks were keyed to fingerprint and retina scan, and so if gangs of robbers wanted inside, they would waylay the occupant outside, pull out his eye and cut off his finger. Then go to the door and hold up the fella's eye to the scanner while pressing the pad with the victim's finger. I think crooks have got cold blooded enough to make that a reality.

I read up on some of that and they found out that it didn't work. When they killed the person their pupils became fixed and dilated and in order for the scanner to work it uses a light to read the pupil & retina and the pupil adjusts to the light. The fixed pupil that does not react to the light will not unlock the door or turn off the alarm system. You are right about how cold blooded people are today though for sure.

Maybe I'm mr paranoid, but every phone, pad and laptop sports patches of blue painter tape covering all the camera lenses. Also all the gps and location features disabled as best I can arrange, though it could probably be easily remote hacked to turn em back on.

If I want to use gps, I turn on gps, use the service, then turn it back off. If I want to take a pitcher, temp remove the tape, take picture, re-apply tape to lens.

Unfortunately it would defeat the purpose and be kinda messy to cram wads of chewing gum into the microphones. :) Edited by Lester Weevils

Your not paranoid, I do the same thing. Black electrical tape. No one really wants to see what I'm doing when I'm using my laptop...

Dont think your alone. Both laptops here have brown packing tape over the cameras, my desktop camera stays unplugged when not in use.

I am right with you on the flip phone prag. I have been using this one for about 7 years now and it has a camera in it but I never had that part of my service activated plus it does not work if phone is closed. A phone is suppose to be a tool that allows a person to make call, receive calls, take voice messages and have a phone book of frequently called numbers. If I want to take a picture I have a digital camera for that purpose. If i want to know how much money I have in my bank account I get on my desk top computer which by the way does not have a camera attached to it and I look at my bank account information or if I am out I will stop by an atm and check it there. People without their own knowledge in most cases have made their lives open books for hackers and the Feds. My son in law has one of them do it all phones and it has about 25 different ring tones and he can tell who is calling by which tones it plays. I make him turn the darn thing off when we go fishing in my boat. He said what if your daughter tries to call me I said if she knows your with me then she will call me if you don't answer.............. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

[quote name="Dane" post="1032767" timestamp="1379205439"] What are all you guys doing that warrants the effort to disable, cover, dismantle your devices? Simply engaging in exercising my God Given Constitutionally Protected Rights. That make you a "person of interest" these days. :squint:

The best way to defeat this new technology .......don't use it. The surveillance is voluntary (at this point) and the catch/hook is the golly-gee-wizz-bang of the device. The new cars are computer hackable (I have an older vehicle) the new mega size TVs have video cameras installed (mine is 8 years old, works fine) and the phones are being monitored by .gov (known that for years, still have my flip phone)......I refuse to participate in the voluntary gathering/mining of what my life choices are.....that's also why I have curtains on my windows.
