Saw a shady deal at Academy- with pic

Recommended Posts

Update: I got a phone call from the District Manager, he was very nice and very apologetic about the situation. Conversation sounded like they confirmed my account of what happend but they have to do their due diligence before any action is taken. He said that he is pulling the tapes from that day and the appropiate action will be taken. He assured me that they have no policy that allows an employee to hold anything for anyone. He is also going to use this incident in his push to get the 22 put back up at the service desk to make sure that this does not happen again. He said he will be back in contact with me in the next couple days after they review the tapes.

Good to know Academy is looking into and taking care of the matter.

Well, if he did lose it job, it would be his own fault. If the company has a policy against doing something, do not do it. He fulll well knew what he was doing was wrong, and screwing other people (such as the OP) in the process. That is just my opinion though.

Even better we can all march up to his house in an angry mob with pitch forks and burn him at the stake.... Regards, sarcasm
Dude, he broke the rules and was screwing customers. Besides the fact the guy was using his position in an unethical way, if you were running a business wouldn't you want to know if one of your employees were turning away customers so he could line his own pockets? I would. Taking the scenario to the extreme, as you're doing with your response above, then ridiculing the outcome is silly. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Still, I would hate to see him fired for something like this. But that's in Academy's hands where it should be.
Yeah, I hear you. No one wants that bad karma, but what does one do? Choice is either to stop patronizing a business or suck it up and accept that you'll never get what you want from that source because it's been corrupted. I would feel obligated to say something to the employer simply out if courtesy. If the employee is a good worker and this is just one screw up, I'm betting they'll just tell him to stop. But if this is an employee with a history of being a poor performer and engaging in shady stuff like this after being told not to, then you have done the manager a favor and it is the fault of the employee 100% if he gets canned. Let's see, various folks here just in the last year state they claim to "boycott" Walmart, Dick's, Gander Mountain, MidwayUSA, CTD, or Troy just off top of my memory.  Not to mention a host of local gun shops near them.

If I followed each of those leads, don't guess I'd be getting much shootin' gear at all. :)

East town Walmart in Knoxville was caught doing the same thing a few years ago. And that is thd only Walmart now you NEVER see ammo on the shelves so I suspect the same thing is happening because most of the same employees are still working there. I even caught them once when I asked about ammo and was told there wasn't any but when I leaned over the counter there was plenty. I asked about the ammo I seen and I was told it wasn't for sale.

I did see some ammo on the shelf two days before Christmas and there was a line waiting. When a mother and son bought a couple of boxes, not all of it, with a rifle that was probably the kid's first the adults acted like kids by huffing, groaning and making under breath comments.

I talked to the manager about stamping the ammo with "originally sold at Walmart" but he said they couldn't. Next time I see him I will ask if they can only put out a box or two per hour so the hoarders/resellers have to waste the day.

My biggest problem is there are a lot of kids who break into guns by squirrel hunting with a 22. This shortage has put a huge damper on that. I have given ammo away to kids who needed it but could not find any. We can loose our guns in the next 20 years if our kids grow up and vote against us when they see no need to have a gun.

The only place I consistently boycott is CTD. They have a long history of sticking it to their customers. On top of that the owner is a crook.

I mean the least the guy deserves is a good tar and feathering right?

Sounds to me like there hasn't been an outcome. I'll be interested to see if the OP goes back and looks for the sales guy.

The dude was breaking the rules and misrepresenting the company he worked for, with the result being a denial of sale to a customer. The OP notified the management. You compare that to tar and feathering? I made a thoughtful, serious response. You respond with ridiculous exaggerations. Have we hit a nerve with this thread? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Perhaps this guy was friend or family. I don't know. If the guy wasnt a close friend or family it seems pretty stupid to risk his job just for some guy, doesn't it? Considering that people are generally motivated by money the answer is pretty obvious. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Edited by TMF

This sounds similar, not the same, but similar to what went on in high school. There was a guy that I and alot of people were friends with that worked at McDonalds. If you went in and he was working, just holler back Hey Joe! And he would fill up your bag with random food you didnt pay for. I never would do it because its stealing but nearly everyone else did.

What this guy at Academy is doing is wrong, and you cant deny that. It is up to management to deal out the proper repercussions. A man has to take responsibility for his actions, whatever they may be. He broke company policy not to mention it being ethically wrong as well.
