Big freaking wolf

Recommended Posts

They got rough weight of 120#. Almost 7ft snout to tip of tail. I am sure those are close to true. They are going to call a DNA officer to look and measure it. I have seen some big ones in the UP but that is really big for what I have seen.

Full disclosure, I am getting all info second hand through a family member. I do know him just don't have his cell to text him. I will try to call him at work to get info straight from him.

WOW. And here I was all day happy about the Bobcat caught on the trail cam behind the house carrying a dead bunny! I thought that was amazing until I saw this. Thats a beautiful wolf. Not necessarily in that position but it is understandable. The size alone is mind blowing. I didn't know the DNR allowed wolves to be shot? Maybe that's just my ignorance. I just never recall that from when I was younger. Kinda like here with Coyotes, I know they are pests but I don't know if I could ever shoot one.

I know we could shoot coyotes if the kept coming back to the farm. I am wondering if it was one they tried to scare off several times and it kept coming back. I highly doubt they would have posted it if it was not legal.

I do know that Michigan had a wolf hunt last year.

My dog weighed 106 lbs. and it would look nowhere near that big. If that guy weighs 200 lbs. that Wolf is at least that. That looks photoshopped to me; but maybe it’s not. If not, good for him that will be all over the news, that a heck of a Wolf.

Wolves get really big, I've seen several of them up close.  The 120lb weight sounds about right.  Their bone structure is much larger than a typical dog... a wolf's skull and paws are at least 50% bigger than a typical large dog.  A wolf's fur is also very thick which makes them look bigger than their weight might imply.

Grey wolves/Timber wolves of the Mackenzie Valley regularly turn up monster sized animals. One as big as the picture is not so far fetched as it seems.
North western Canada has some huge wolf packs and they are not joke.

My biggest fear is that we are starting to see them east of the Mississippi. Never before in history because of the natural barrier the river provided but now they are migrating east. If ever they get established, we are in for trouble. With the feral hog problem of the eastern side of the states, they would have a HUGE food supply. On the surface it seems one would take care of the other but I'd rather have hogs than wolves.
We only really know coyotes and wild dog packs in TN. For the most part their fear of humans make deadly run ins all but unheard of. Wolves? Well, they ain't afraid of :poop:

I think some wolves have been native to Michigan.  If my quick search is correct, this either is a hoax or it was illegal.

This from Michigan DNR.

On Friday, Dec. 19, 2014 the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. issued an opinion immediately placing wolves in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin back on the federal endangered species list. The court order vacated the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's January 2012 decision to delist wolves in the western Great Lakes states. As a result of this ruling, the status of wolves in Michigan has reverted to "federally endangered," the same status they had prior to the Jan. 2012 delisting.

Ok got the scoop, this is an old pic from 2013. He did not want it up because a lot of his family is against hunting and his work is very antihunting. Someone that got mad at him, hacked his FB posted it and got their desired result, he is being harassed at work and certain family members have sworn not to talk to him. So out of respect for him I will be taking the pic down.

Just to clear up the illegal/legal to hunt wolves. In 13 it was legal, 14 and 15 it was not but because of the July ruling they are planning a 16 season. I got that straight from a resource officer.
