  1. France?  Their favorite position at the first sign of trouble is the FETAL position.......   French Military History in a Nutshell   Gallic Wars: Lost. In a war whose ending foreshadows the next 2000 years of French history, France is conquered by of all things, an Italian.   Hundred Years War: Mostly lost, saved at last by a female schizophrenic who inadvertently creates The First Rule of French Warfare - "France's armies are victorious only when not led by a Frenchmen."   Italian Wars: Lost. France becomes the first and only country ever to lose two wars when fighting Italians.   Wars of Religion: France goes 0-5-4 against the Huguenots.   Thirty Years' War: France is technically not a participant, but manages to get invaded anyway. Claims a tie on the basis that eventually the other participants started ignoring her.   War of Devolution: Tied; Frenchmen take to wearing red flowerpots as chapeaux.   The Dutch War: Tied.   War of the Augsburg League/King William's War/French and Indian War: Lost, but claimed as a tie. Deluded Frogophiles the world over label the period as the height of French Military Power.   War of the Spanish Succession: Lost. The War also gave the French their first taste of a Marlborough, which they have loved ever since.   American Revolution: In a move that will become quite familiar to future Americans, France claims a win even though the English colonists saw far more action. This is later known as "de Gaulle Syndrome", and leads to the Second Rule of French Warfare: "France only wins when America does most of the fighting".   French Revolution: Won, primarily due to the fact that the opponent was also French.   The Napoleonic Wars: Lost. Temporary victories (remember the First Rule!) due to leadership of a Corsican, who ended up being no match for a British footwear designer.   The Franco-Prussian War: Lost. Germany first plays the role of drunk Frat boy to France's ugly girl home alone on a Saturday night.   WWI: Tied and on the way to losing, France is saved by the United States. Thousands of French women find out what it's like not only to sleep with a winner, but one who doesn't call her "Fraulein." Sadly, widespread use of condoms by American forces forestalls any improvement in the French bloodline.   WWII: Lost. Conquered French liberated by the United States and Britain just as they finish learning the Horst Wessel Song.   War in Indochina: Lost. French forces plead sickness, take to bed with Dien Bien Flu.   Algerian Rebellion: Lost. Loss marks the first defeat of a Western army by a Non-Turkic Muslim force since the Crusades, and produces the First Rule of Muslim Warfare -"We can always beat the French." This rule is identical to the First Rules of the Italians, Russians, Germans, English, Dutch, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Eskimos.   War on Terrorism: France, keeping in mind its recent history, surrenders to Germans and Muslims just to be safe.

  2. I normally take my cars to the dealer for any repairs they need. Yesterday on my way home, my check engine light came on and the car started running really "choppy". I was only a few miles from home so I continued on and stopped at my local auto parts store. They checked the code for me and it showed I was having a cylinder 4 misfire. I knew it would be okay to drive to the dealership if needed, and I knew that most likely it was the ignition coil gone bad. I have a warranty, but the deductible is $100 and the dealership is a hour away and takes time to get repairs and diagnostics. So I decided to try and repair it myself. For $117 I got a ignition coil, a new set of wipers, and a set of wipers for my wife's car. 45 minutes later, I had a repaired car with new wipers! There is nothing quite as satisfying as fixing your own car and not relying on someone else to do it for you!

  3.   I see a big difference in free market and what's going on with ammo IMO. It's pure greed and giving everyone that enjoys the shooting sports the finger.  It's the fact that the AH scalpers are buying up the ammo at normal prices from normal retailers by circumventing the rules and limits established by retailers trying to supply the general public and being fair with the supply. They're selfishly jerking it right out of circulation before normal buyers can buy at normal prices which sustains the shortage for their benefit. Then they mark it up 200% yet they don't pay taxes on the 200% profit which is further crapping on everyone including the honest taxpayer and the normal shooters that buy ammo. I don't buy from the scalpers. They can KMA.  I've been lucky I guess and have procured enough online and just lucked up on what I've needed and am pretty good now.  The last I bought was from Palmetto State Armory where I bought 40S&W for $26 a box of 50 which included shipping. Personally I'd love to see them start getting notices from the IRS on the tax issue.  They don't give a damn about us....why should we give a damn about them?

  4. Ahh well there's the rub. We like to talk about WE gunowners. In fact as we see from folks who join here just to sell or attempt to buy something, the concept of gunowners as a collective group is pretty much BS. I personally agree with you and I have bought limited ammo over the last few years and I have never paid a "premium" for what I've bought. We have seen the enemy and he is us.

  5.   Because in this case someone else's willingness to pay an inflated price to purchase ammo from profiteers directly impacts the rest of the buying public's ability to walk into a Walmart, LGS, etc. and purchase ammo at normal, retail prices.  It continues to give the profiteers incentive to go into Walmart, skirt the purchase limits by having their friends make straw purchases of ammo for them, clean out the Walmart shelves and not leave any ammo for people who just want to buy a box or two to shoot.  This creates a false market which negatively impacts all, potential ammo buyers - not just the one who decides to pay inflated prices to a profiteer.   If it were just a matter of one guy saying, "Hey, I happen to have more ammo than I need.  I will sell some of it to you at a premium," then that would be one thing.  Encouraging profiteers to continue buying up all the ammo they can get in order to resell it, resulting in a lack of ammo on the shelf for 'regular' shooters to buy, is a completely different matter.

  6. Why? To replace what I shoot. Do I buy inflated prices no, but if I wanted to what business is it of anyone else? Someone should start a Concealed vs Open Carry or Property rights vs 2nd amendment thread. We haven't beat those horses enough yet either.

  7. What does it really matter?  I buy ammo from local gun stores and online but if someone want's to buy ammo from another person and is willing to pay the price why care? It's a willing seller and a willing buyer - isn't that what the free market is supposed to be about?

  8. Sorry, Dave.  We all want to shield our loved ones, especially the young and innocent, from the bad things out there.  I had my kid with me when we ran up on an accident scene -- one of the first ones there.  I told him to stay in the truck, but you know kids ... ... ... anyway, he saw stuff that he didn't need to see.  We ended up having to stay around until a med evac chopper left the scene, so we had plenty of time to talk.  Don't know if this will help, but after we talked a while about the "bad" things, I tried to steer the conversation around to all the people who came to help.  You know, see the "good" even in the "bad."   There are always "helpers."  Seemed to do him some good at the time, but as he ended up in fire (like me -- my fault, his mama says) and ems (even worse, as far as seeing "bad" stuff), that may have done more harm than good.  He's turned out to be a good medic.  I've worked with him, and he's proficient, but even more important in my opinion, he's compassionate with the patients and their families.  Seems he's turned into one of those "helpers," and while he'll never get rich doing it, there are a lot of rewards to offset the emotional trauma that he experiences.   Don't know if that rambling story is worth anything, but maybe one of your grandkids will work in mental health and prevent someone else from going through what they have.  I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

  10. Well...I don't see the difference.   Once you start throwing around words like "selfish" and "greedy" it's no longer about the free market; it's just about some people being angry about prices and availability. If I buy at "X" price and sell for "Y" price...nothing could be more free market than that.  The fact that the "Y" price is higher than many want to pay is understandable but also immaterial. Anytime there is more demand than supply for anything the price will rise. At some point there will be enough ammo to go around and the prices will drop. Until then we either pay what is being asked or go without but complaining about those who buy now at the higher price is a bit like spitting in the wind.

  11. Well if any of you guys that hate the way things are and are against people buying at inflated prices have any 9MM ammo for sale I'd love to hear from you via PM. I'd be happy to buy some from you at pre-school shooting prices.

  14. If you leave it in until the trans goes out that would fulfill the "lifetime" qualification. I service ALL my transmissions and diffs every 30k, regardless of the factory's advice. (fluid is cheap compared to transmissions and diffs) Several years back BMW upped the oil change interval to 15k to reduce the maintenance cost on their cars since they were covering the first few years of maintenance. I had to change one customers oil with a scraper and chisel b/c they thought to would be fine to skip one if they were too busy. That's a chunk of factory 5w-30 in between my fingers in the picture.

  15. That sign only applies to people bringing in guns for work, trade, etc. It is not intended for HCP carriers. There are several discussions on this topic already. The store I work in has no problem with carrying, but we do ask that If you are going to unholster (checking holsters etc.) That you clear it outside before you bring it in. You wouldn't believe how many people have pulled out loaded guns and then asked if we had a holster to fit it. Almost daily. You'd also be surprised how many guns I've cleared with rounds in the chamber and mags that were "not loaded". All guns are always loaded.;)

  19. I am looking for a cheap 20 guage semi-auto for my wife. She would like to learn to shoot skeet, but I don't want to buy a Benelli (unless a really good deal). I may keep it for a future gun for my daughter as well. Also my wife is 5'2" so a youth model may be needed. Anyway, I have read about the Weatherby SA and the Mossberg SA, but want some other thoughts. Again this will probably be just a fun gun. I have an 870 Wingmaster in 20 and 12, plus a Model 12 in 12 and 16 so I have some good hunting guns. Thanks.

  22.   I don't recall seeing any post in this thread where anyone is calling for the government to step in and stop the stupidity.  Instead, some of us are pointing out that if people who are buying ammo at inflated prices from profiteers would simply and voluntarily stop doing so then the stupidity would likely come to an end all on its own and that would be better for all of us who want to buy and shoot ammo.

  23. SOME components are difficult to find....but that's just like factory ammo, thats why you put away a good stash. A lot of my loads use powders very few people use. I've found excellent results with some powders that are not run of the mill for the respective calibers I use them for. Therefore, the only common denominator for me is primers. Thankfully they are easy to store and take up very little space. You can store 20,000 primers in the same general space as a thousand rounds of factory boxed ammo.

  24.   I have no authority to tell anyone what to do with their money.  However, when someone does something stupid that negatively impacts my ability to purchase ammo at a reasonable price then I damned well have the right to speak up and say that I don't like it and wish that such buyers would stop making dumbass decisions that negatively impact anyone who would like to purchase ammo at a more reasonable price.   Further, skirting purchase limit rules and cleaning out shelves of ammo at normal, retail price then reselling it is not simply the 'free market'.  It is profiteers creating a false market and, in a sense, interfering with the normal operation of the free market.

  30. I agree with you, Worriedman.   We all assume that the press is somehow a full, participating partner in this charade.  That takes more than just ideological alignment.  That also takes willingness, foresight, patience and some manner of intelligence.  I would posit that while there are some individual reporters or people working for the media that have all of those characteristics, the organizations for which they work are no where near as adept.  To paraphrase an old friend, "they're too stupid to come up with that by themselves."   I'd guess we still have some ground to cover, but this incident may prove damning.  Once the patsy realizes that they're being played, they become unpredictable and dangerous to the overall mission.

That irritates me to hell when somebody see's him for the first time and says "good looking pit". American Pitbull terriers are ukc registered, where amstaffs are akc registered. And amstaffs have a milder temperament, while keeping that "die for their family" guard dog mentality. He shares the house with my wifes silky terrier, and a cat. He has never harmed either one in any way. He is by far the best dog ive ever owned.

  45. I have two both rescues. This is Hunney She was extremely malnourished when we got her she only weighed 40 pounds full grown. Hunney is one of the few dogs that I have ever met that really seem to be retarded. It took me a year to teach her to sit or lay down. She used to sleep sitting up and fell off the couch many times. This is Pepper. She is a mix, not sure of what, maybe some Lab German Shepard Pit or Char Pai. She is our protector. No one comes to the house with her letting us know they are there. The shelter told us the Pepper's first family was forced to surrender her. She has bad scars like she was chained or cabled out and mistreated. Pepper is on duty in this picture watching the street for onyone she could bark at. Both of the girls. Pepper is so dark black she is hard to thake pictures of

My wife and I are doing a blog to keep track of him growing, so I'll have a million pictures. I'll try to spare you all of them and pop in every once in a while with one. I'd really like to see some more from you folks. I enjoy these pictures and seeing what everyone's pets are like. 48. This is Boba. He was a rescue. Forgive the cliche but he really IS a junkyard dog. He came from a nearby wrecking yard. That group of Aholes lost their lease and were going to kill him and throw him in a hole where they were burying trash. He came to me, I've had him ever since. They used to kick him and be mean to him. When I found him, the chain he was on weighed more than he did. 12 mos old and weighed around 30lbs. Well Aholes, If you guys ever wanna kick him again, I'll let you. I'll go in the house and promise NOT to get involved. Go in his pen and kick him now! Later that afternoon, I'll get a mop and clean up what's left of you. People who abuse dogs deserve a slow death. It took time, but we come to an understanding. That understanding grew to the best friend I got. I swear, he'd jump off a cliff if I ask him to. I once snapped my fingers and told him to jump into the middle of a pile of tires. I was just screwing around and would have never thought he'd actually do it. He bailed off in the middle of them and busted his ass. I felt really bad, he got a couple McDoubles from McDonald's and I doubt he holds it against me. He's never mentioned it. Anyway....Here's my buddy. 80lbs of faithful retard. I no like you pinch a da cheeks!
