  1. Things haven't changed much, I could almost match you word for word when describing my '86 Toyota truck......
  2. Love the Subaru but have never tried any Ford awd vehicles. We've had an Outback for a few years and several buddies have them in Canada so maybe I'm partial. Difinitely not the most refined vehicles though.
  3. When I convinced my wife to buy a Subaru couple of years ago she and her friends didn't really get it, until we were the ones that weren't stuck or iced in. Taught my kids how to best deal with driving on iced roads in some parking lots since our Subie just seems to not mind the bad weather, but they know staying home is preferable. I had a situation almost like yours in my fwd Civic where we almost slid into a ditch and even though it's only a few days a year, wanted to put odds in my favor concerning driving in this weather. Good thoughts that your wife's car only has a small issue.

    SNOW!!

Didn't love this weather till I spent a few years in the sandbox, now I'm happy it feels like winter. My wife gave me an earful when we bought an Outback, but after getting medicine for our neighbor and being able to pretty much get anywhere when everyone else is stuck, she has learned to love it. Only thing this weather worries me about is ice dams.
  5. A few years back, a few friends and myself climbed the Grand Tetons. Miss that place so much. By the way, awesome pics.
  6. Hope this isn't considered a thread hijack, but what are y'alls thoughts on SimpliSafe alarm system? Mine should arrive here in a day or two.
  7. Not sure if my buddy was serious, but he told me that his parents dog used to lay down by the wire to use up the battery on the collar, then wonder the neighborhood when he knew that he wouldn't be shocked anymore. I guess you gotta make sure the dogs not too smart.
  8. I have the grandfather of the Tacoma, a 1986 Toyota truck with about 235,00 miles. It's my hunting, fishing and honey-do list vehicle. Belonged to my moms till she passed 4 yrs ago. I can't even imagine how I'll be able to afford these new trucks if I had to get cause I don't know how I'll get along without a truck of some kind.
  9. Academy Sports in Smyrna has ammo cans for $9.99 in black, green and khaki. There was plenty plus stocked above the shelves, I opened the 4 I bought to check o-rings and construction - looked really good.
  10. Hello, as you can see, plenty of members willing to share knowledge. Hope you find a range you enjoy.
  11. Now that I got a chest freezer I try to stock up on food items. Will check out my local Kroegers, thanks.
  12. We were told that we wouldn't be convoy security, we would be the trans company so some of the guys from the platoon wanted to use the lemurs and the song "we like to move it, move it" from the movie Madagascar. We enjoyed being low-key.
  13. ^^^^ I was in a trans unit my last deployment and we called ourselves Lemurs because we were supposed to close down 4 bases and haul items south. We got laughed at by the NG unit that was our security and even the other 2 platoons in our company making snide remarks. All that changed after the Lemurs won the post basketball tournament, took the 155lb combatives bracket and 4 of us won our boxing match. All these events were held by Airborne Sapper BN's which made it sweeter since we were already looked down upon for being Reserves + our guidon had a dancing Lemur.
  14. Yup, he was a man who drew his line. I also read about the Marine who faked his birth certificate to join. Kid was 14 and killed at 15 during the Vietnam war. Always amazed at what others before me had done.
  15. Lots good information to be had, welcome.
  16. I can stand a few more rain days. Since involuntarily spending a few years where it's hot or freakin hot weather all the time, I have learned to enjoy all four seasons in this great state. Only pain in the butt is timing the breaks in the rain to take my buddy walking. Spent all that money on a fence and he insists on walks around the neighborhood to get his bowels moving.
  17. [quote name="jonathon1289" post="1328265" timestamp="1448568976"]Nikon M-223 3-12x42 scope at Cabelas for $130. Smoking deal for pretty good glass. I am not a Nikon fan but am still tempted to grab one.   Buddy ordered one for himself and one as a present for me. Cabelas cancelled the order, hope you were able to get yours.
  18. Congrats bud, awesome first score. It's nice to know there are beautiful deer to harvest like these in our state.
  19. My buddy ordered two Nikon M223, regular $499, on sale for $129. He said one will be mailed to me and expect it. Was pretty stoked since I've needed glass on my AR. A day later Cabelas sent him an e-mail that the price was a mistake and order was cancelled. Thought I was gonna get a smoking deal.
  20. This is an awesome offer, specially for anyone unsure of how good venison is. I didn't know what I didn't know about deer meat till I helped a buddy of mine process one he tagged, then we grilled the inner straps and parts of the hams. No gamey taste, tender as can be and that's what got me hunting. For anyone thinking that the price of a processor might be cost prohibitive, YouTube can be your guide. Watch some of the videos a few or dozen times and it'll soon be second nature. 10-Ring, if I don't tag one when we go do soups for the homeless I'll reach out to you to see if you have any. I'd jump on the offer now but there's a feeling I get from sighting in the muzzleloader to finally having a deer scoped in and everything that happens in between.
  21. Slappy, read over this again and went through it with my buddy I'm trying to give advice to concerning hunting. It's difinitely a good read and wanted to let you know we appreciate you taking the time to write this.
  22. I've got an entry level Treck, 5yrs old that I used to do the Jailbreak Triathlon in Columbia with and some of the local trails. Need to find time to start again.......
  23. I googled "waterfalls close to Nashville" and have been to 7, lots of good hiking to be done with each one. Soo many protected land around the Altamont Pass area that are beautiful to visit/hike. The family and I always do Mt LeConte at least once a year, and when you are there, plenty to do. Unfortunately, not every place is dog friendly - sometimes I spend more time for Boo's doggy care than what I do for our lodging.
  24. Whiskey, you've seen more action than I'll probably see all year hunting the WMA lands around Smyrna. One of these days I hope to get a lease. A few have come up on this site but just wasn't ready yet....
