⚠️ Safety Reminder for Buyers and Sellers ⚠️

This is an automatic reply meant to protect you as a buyer and a seller on TGO.

  • Use the Buyer/Seller Feedback feature to research who you are dealing with.   Please come back and leave feedback for each other after the transaction is complete.  Your experience will help others.

  • Never agree to use an electronic form of payment to buy or sell a gun!  None of the electronic payment services will protect you against fraud in a firearms transaction.  They all have terms of service FORBIDDING the use of their services to buy/sell guns.  DON'T DO IT.

  • Be very wary of anyone who insists on brokering a deal in private or outside of TGO.  Scammers almost always prefer to operate out of the public eye.

I agree with trying out plenty at the rental counter and see what she likes best. My wife tried the LC9, the LCP, the Shield Plus, P365, and plenty others. To my surprise, she ended up getting the LCR in .38. I also have a LCR in 9mm, but she always goes back to the .38. The M&P with the EZ rack slide is also a good option.

Take her to Gunny’s in Maryville. They have a woman’s shooting class. They shoot several different guns in the class. My wife ended up buying a Glock 44 (22lr) because she really liked it and that’s was her favorite that she shot in the class. I then bought her a PROMAG 18rnd mag for it with Federal Punch ammo. She carries it in her purse and I hope she never needs to use it. I guess it’s better than a rock! But she made the decision even though I begged for at least a 380.

Same here, my wife chose an LCR in .38, she loves it & shoots it well.

I’ve been around the block with my wife on this, and she is currently using what she started with: a Ruger SR22. She also has a Ruger lcp II in 380, and a S&W snub 38 spl. She always goes back to the SR22 at the range and she is more accurate with that one. It’s easy to rack and easy to load. They also come in colors-hers is Teal ( Heaven help me). Good luck!

My wife loves guns almost as much as I do so she has several. She carried a Walther for years and then fell in love with the Glock 44 22lr. She has arthritis in her hands but handles the Glock with zero issues. She has 18rd pro mags and can put all 18 through a 50 cent piece size whole at 7 yards.

I don't worry about it being 22lr. She carries and practices. If 18 rounds of 22 on target won't do it got bigger issues to worry about.

The "can't rack the slide" issue is usually more a technique problem rather than a lack of strength problem.  I've found 2 main points to emphasize when someone has trouble.

First... push, don't pull. Hold the pistol up near your chest where you've got good leverage.   Hold the slide with your whole hand across the top and push hard and fast with the strong hand on the pistol grip.

Second... don't be timid.  Its more like throwing a punch than pushing open a door. Guns are tough, you're not likely to break it.
