Grace Potter and the Nocturnals put on a hell of a live show.

That has a good "solid funk" feel to it, though "produced music videos" are annoying, dunno why.

For some reason it reminded me of old atlanta band Mothers Finest, though they actually spanned quite a range of funk and rock styles over the many years.

Have you seen the version he did on the Live in Gdansk album? Gives me chills. I'm somewhat of a metalhead, but thats one of my favorite songs.

That is an awesome version! I don't think I've ever seen a rock band play glasses like they do at the beginning.

I recorded the Live in Gdansk concert onto my DVR a while back, but have not watched it yet. I'll definitely have to make a point to watch it.

You guys make me feel sooo old.

I'm listening to a cd of the Roadrunners; a fast-paced blues recording from the late "90's. It was recorded at the 3rd and Lindsey Bar and Grill. Pretty good stuff.

Had to look them up

Actually...a different RoadRunners. Can't find an example right now, but the ones I mean do more "Blues Brothers" style.

In fact, just got another CD( yeah, I know. I'm outdated) today...The Roadrunners---Rythem Rockin Blues. Recorded at the Three Little Pigs Studio, here in Nashville.

Yamaha has been making a software singing synthesizer Vocaloid. As far as I can tell, it is only good for japanese singing, and you can buy lots of software voices, but only female voices, no male voices. And most of the software voices are of jailbait age, with only a couple of voices that sound like (or are claimed to be) older than 17. It is heavily embedded in anime imagery. Japan is an interesting place. In the USA this might almost verge into suspicions of pedophilia. :)

You produce a song using either live instruments or synthesizers or what have you, then enter the lyrics and melody into the vocaloid software, then mix that track with the rest of yer production. Youtube (and yamaha's website) has lots of samples, demos from the company and user songs. Used with care, there are examples of very realistic vocal lines, but of course synth music people take it and fold, spindle, and mutilate it just like every other music instrument ever made, which is also interesting. Here are a few of the more interesting examples. Ain't saying it is good or bad, but certainly "interesting".

Here is a demo of the "adult" voice, vocaloid getting funky. This ".wax" file format is played on my mac with Windows Media software extensions in firefox, dunno if it will play on every computer, not familiar with .wax format and too lazy to look it up-- I like this one. Japanese funk.
