I’ve just never been able to get into single action revolvers. I would love to have a “Cowboy†gun like a Vaquero, and a nice Western style leather rig. Who knows, maybe someday Colt, Ruger or S&W will make a double action copy of the Peacemaker.

Don’t take this the wrong way, I don’t want to change Cowboy action shooting, and I would love to have a collectable Colt single action, but for a shooter I sure do wish I could buy a Vaquero in double action.

Some of you guys that do this kind of shooting, please post pictures of your rigs. All that fancy leather is as cool as some of the guns.

Look up the Colt Thunderer and Lightning.

They are double action pistols. Rumored to be the favored pistols of Billy the Kid.

I bet that packs a whallop.

Actually I am loading a 200gr lead bullet with 8.5gr of Unique and it is not bad at all for target shooting. The 200gr JHP with 12 gr Unique I load will get your attention, but is not not unpleasureable to shoot.

They are 'just' .22 revolvers but I am pretty sure that H&R made some models (I think the 686 was one) that were 'cowboy' style, double action revolvers. Some of them may have even been convertible (one cylinder for .22LR and one for .22WMR) but I am not sure. Of course, they aren't made anymore but you might find a used one somewhere if a .22 would be enough to fill your need.

686 was made in several barrel lengths, including this 12 incher:

All five grandkids started shooting about four years of age with these Ruger Bearcats. We actually shot them so much the ejector rod housing started to wear away on both guns at the same time. Ruger replaced everything with an 8 day turnaround.
