Safelite replacement glass

Anyone used them to replace a windshield? My wifes 2011 maxima took a rock and it cracked. My insurance is recommending them.. which tells me it's cheap or they wouldn't.

Read a few comments online about distortion and cloudy issues below 70 degrees.

Anyone with experience? It's hard to pass up a $300 window.. but it's a really nice car and i dont want bad glass

I have used them several times in the past for work trucks. Never had a complaint.

When we had the hailstorm in Knoxville a few years ago I had to schedule half my fleet for new windshields, it took them a week to get to me (it would have been next day if I were willing to drive my fleet to London Kentucky.)

I was pleased with them and they took care of me.

I would have no problem using them in a daily driver that is just as likely as not going to take another rock in the future. On older cars or cars that sit a lot (collectors) I try and go OEM where I can b/c I think it's generally better quality. (increases value in some buyer's minds) Or if the window is more than just a simple window. (I.E. BWM windshields with the luminescent panel for the rain sensing wipers)

The front windshield I'm about to put in my '71 VW bus is 40 years old and though a little cloudy around the edges it's still less distorted in the curves than the import replacements I've seen, but old bay window buses, corvettes, and P-cars are kinda special applications when it comes to glass due to the extreme bends so they are more picky than most.

Some people have complained of wavy glass (they use their own, not OEM) but I had no issues on my XK8. They had to come twice though. He had the wrong part for the rain sensor. It also took them a while to track down the trim clip kit but a good experience overall.

Insurance companies recommend them because the goo stuff can fix some chips as well, and are cheaper. They will

recommend replacing if it needs it, though. Nothing wrong with them.

A couple of people I knew who were "in the business" called it Sh!tty Auto Glass, but that was several years ago. They swore by PPG. That said, I'd venture a guess that for 99/100, SAG is just fine.

Jack Morris does PPG glass in Nashville. That's who I used for one replacement and was happy. I'd use them again, but I'm very particular about my cars.
