Moving to Tennessee

Recommended Posts

Hey folks,

My name is Kieran and i will be moving from New York to Middle Tennessee at Christmas. As i live in NYC i obviously don't own a gun. i have lots of shooting and hunting experience as i'm from Ireland and shot and hunted a lot back there, My in laws live in Tennessee so i hit the range any time im in TN,

Question

Once i move and change my NY state drivers license over to a TN license can i buy a pistol straight away or do i have to wait a certain length of time ?Looking forward to chatting to you all

Welcome to TGO, and soon, to the great state of Tennessee.

You don't happen to play Irish fiddle or accordion, do ya? My Celtic band of 22 yrs. is lookin' for a good fiddler or accordion player who's got the feel for traditional Irish & Scottish tunes!

You can buy immediately, and you can carry in your car, but you will not be able to conceal or open carry in public right off the bat.  Unfortunately, even in the great state of TN you have to have a permit to legally do that.  In order to obtain the permit, you will have to take a permit class (which usually costs around $75 and will take about 8 hours), get fingerprinted, and pay a permit fee to the state.   All in all it will probably cost close to $200 and take maybe a couple of weeks to get it.
