There should be something done about the guy pointing rifles at windows. I'd be beyond pissed, and probably have a thread about me, if that was my daughter looking out the window and having it pointed at her. If your clam is so large you have to ride with your gun raised towards civililians, you should have stayed on your Xbox and kept playing Black Ops 2.4 points

The issue in the commentary was a general disregard for civil liberties, not just the suspect. That said, the Supreme Court has ordered that a suspect be given Miranda prior to being interrogated. The feds are suggesting that they are able to skip this requirement for "public safety" interests. Interrogating the suspect with the intent of skipping Miranda knowing that you'll not be able to use it in court is a pretty sketchy approach to law enforcement; it violates the spirit of the law. They are saying they will violate this guy's rights knowing his statements can't be used in court, but that's ok because the information is more important than the law. This is setting a dangerous precedent that says individual rights don't matter if the government can justify the violation for some alleged greater good. Considering how the "war on terror" is a broad and non-specific war with no clear objects where the definition of a "terrorist" is an abstract and flexible term, this should concern any American who cares about civil liberties. Tack on the number of people in America saying we should just ship him to Gitmo and be held indefinitely without trial, and the true point of the commentary becomes clear. Heck, take the post right above this one and it's case in point.4 points

He is an enemy combatant that committed a politically motivated terrorist act. He is exactly the person all the terrorist laws address. I don’t care if they take him to Gitmo and water board him. No one is ever required to read a suspect his Miranda rights if they aren’t going to use what he says against him in court. At this point they could care less what happens at his trial; they want to try to stop any more attacks he may know about, or other suspects. Good for them. Him and his brother planned this out and obviously did not plan on living through it. They know as well as anyone here what their rights are. I could care less if they let him talk to an attorney. All an attorney is going to tell him is that unless he tells everything he knows to make a deal; he is going to be executed.4 points

If reports are correct this jackass is a naturalized citizen. If we as a nation begin picking and choosing which rights we grant to persons who are citizens then the terrorists have won.4 points

This is sage advice and I hope everyone is paying attention to who's taking advantage and who isn't. I hope the shops/people that are gouging right now have 2" of dust on their hoarded over-priced stuff or wind up competing with Walmart prices when it's over.4 points

California is the petri dish for the nation. EVERY major legislation, at a national or state level, regarding guns and the enviroment has started in California. Liberals and progressives use California laws as the model for their own. And when they think they got what they want there they move into other states to start the process all over. Colorado is one state I would have never guessed but it has become a liberal stronghold now. It also worries me when people from those liberal states come here to "escape". The reason is they move because they had a problem with the recently passed laws. But what about all the progressive laws that were passed long before that they didn't have an issue with? I am worried they will try to pass those same progressive laws here up to the point where THEY had the problem and we will slowly become another Colorado. I am not saying to no welcome them. I am saying we need to be mindful that people miss where they used to live.4 points

In this situation I would invite them in. Let them search, fix them a cup of coffee and a freaking steak if they wanted one. I am thankful to have people who run towards the explosions, so I don't have to.14 points

Take a photo from your home and have a member of the US military point a rifle at you. At least, I presume that's who he is since the vehicle is a Humvee and it says "military police" on it. People spend time ad nauseam talking about FEMA trucks waiting to take over the country, but nary a word about this use of the military to deal with a domestic law enforcement issue. This is the danger of the "war on terror" since it essentially gives the federal government to render a criminal incident a "terror attack" and ignore the Bill of Rights and the Posse Comitatus Act. There is a reason the military are not allowed to carry out civilian law enforcement duties and this is why. Military rules of engagement are quite different than civilian law enforcement and the Bill of Rights is not something considered in training soldiers to fight a war.3 points

One thing I will throw out there is that the idea of the Bill of Rights was based on the idea that human beings all possessed inalienable natural rights, not rights granted to citizens by a government. In other words, it doesn't matter whether the bad guy is a natural born citizen, a naturalized citizen, or foreign citizen. The Bill of Rights is a statement of philosophical beliefs embodied into law. Following the Boston Massacre, John Adams insisted the British soldiers accused of firing on Boston residents should be given due process including a fair trial.3 points

They, as in the authorities, already have. The government said they did not read him his miranda rights. They stated because of "public safety" they could not at the time he was taken into custody, which I understand completely. Now, even though he is sitting in a hospital room safe and secure, they said they were going to wait even longer because of "public safety" concerns. They said they are going to go ahead and question him before they read him his miranda rights because of "public safety" concerns. He IS a US citizen and he is entitled to the same rights as any other citizen. If the powers that be can circumvent this legal requirement for him they can for any other citizen in which they feel there is a threat to "public safety". And we have all seen the hysteria over perceived threats to "public safety". How sick would it be if once he got to trial ALL of his statements were thrown out as well as the charges because he was not read his miranda rights. I know it has happened in other cases. He needs to fry for what he did but the rules should not be broken to ensure it happens. He is no different than any other citizen that has killed 3 people. Once the rules are broken once it sets a precendent for others to break those same rules.3 points

And if these guys had wanted they could have made their own explosives from stuff bought at their CVS which would have blown better and caused more injury and death. Once again, you can't prevent evil, you can only react to it. As long as man has his imagination he will be capable of killing mass amounts of people regardless of any feel good legislation our whorediots in DC pass.3 points

So we willingly accept US Military cruising the streets pointing automatic weapons at us? IMO the military shouldn't have been involved in this at all (Posse Comitatus Act), except if the NG was called up for clean-up and disaster relief. I know what he did was terribly awful and he deserves all of the aforementioned awful punishments we have set forth in this thread; but I am not willing to wave my rights to deny unwarranted search of my property, nor the participation of US military forces involved in civilian law enforcement because someone did something awful. We all b!t$h and moan when they want to take away our guns (or NY'ers guns) because someone shot up a school, why aren't we all b!i$chin' and moaning because they're taking away another Constitutionally protected right?2 points

BTW - Miranda Rights do not have to be read and they can legally interrogate him at any time. However statements made during that interrogation are not available to be used to incriminate him. They really don't need a confession or to use his statements as there seem to be enough already.2 points

Pick up a laser range finder. It will save you the walk to the targets. I ALWAYS have one in with my shooting gear. I use it to verify target distances. They have gotten cheap now and you can find them for sale for under $100.2 points

You are the one who said... I'm implying nothing. I'm saying it's pretty damn disgusting to denigrate and insult a whole (oh I'm sorry, I mean only "most" of) a profession who's members put their lives on the line every day to save the asses of people they don't even know while armchair quarterbacks make snide remarks such as calling them "to sorry to do much else".2 points

Gun show this weekend in missoula MT. Just as i was leaving, I passed a table with a shiny little misfit, and a $45 price tag. Just for sh*ts and giggles i offered forty bucks. The guy took the offer, He was selling off his fathers guns that passed away. In MT we still have private sales at gun shows. (no paperwork) The little .25 has some wear from being carried but was almost like new inside. He said his father carried it every day. Its funny all the other guns he had for sale were pretty high end. Over under shotguns and hunting rifles and two NIB Desert eagles a .44 and a .357. I texted pics to a couple of buddies who immediately made the standard jokes, and even the lady who runs the gun shows laughed and asked how hard i could throw it.( shes great, always lets me in the shows for free) But what the heck, i know i could resell it for $40 bucks any time. Feel free to make mock her, i understand. But if anyones has an apprecition for these, id like to hear something positive. Oh and this for me is a novelty, not a carry gun. and if your wondering why a montanan is on your forum, ill be moving to TN soon .1 point

I do not know what to say other than I can honestly say I would not take this out in public. This is a featureless rifle that is legal in California. I think the front end is kind of cool but that is where my admiration ends. Well I do have some admiration to those gun owners who put up with this kind of nonsense, I know I could not. In the end this stock doesn't prevent criminals from doing anything illegal. The clear magazine reminds me of the reason they have clear televisions and radios in prison. Which is why I hope he dies. Already, we no longer care about justice ... only legalism. The longer this goes the more he and his lawyers will use the "justice" system to help deteriorate the very principals the Bill of Rights was designed to reinforce. Kinda like having an affair to "save" your marriage. ;( Sad times we live in.1 point

Powder is a propellent not an actual explosive anyway, granted if the pressure of a burning propellent is captured & allowed to build up enough, it will "explode" but they are not one & the same. Heck pressurized air can "explode" if enough pressure is allowed to build up, should we also require background checks for scuba tanks & air compressors? Let's face it, the nanny state socialists aren't going to stop until the entire nation is wrapped in bubblewrap, biodegradeable, recycled, ecofriendly bubblewrap.1 point

Well yeah...I supported McCain over Obummer and would any day of the week and twice on Sunday if for no other reason than I think McCain is a much more honorable man than Obummer will ever be. There is a difference between "supporting" someone in a specific race and being a full-time, no holds bared, foaming at the mouth supporter for a politician. In a similar way I like much about Rand Paul and believe him to be an honorable, truthful man. Unfortunately, I think he's absolutely dead wrong on this immigration/amnesty BS he's behind so whether I can vote for him now in a national election I'm not so sure...it's going to depend a great deal on what my other choices will be!1 point

I love the Monday morning quarterbacking from people who have never worked a criminal investigation, or hunted a dangerous fugitive hiding in an unknown location who is intent on killing you. I know nothing about the storing of fertilizer, so I will leave criticism of West, TX to people with more knowledge than me. Regarding Boston, the JTTF spoke with the older brother after his return from Russia, but what were they supposed to do, put him under 24 hour surveillance? I keep reading on here about the police/feds abusing their power but now they didn't do enough to stop him. Its OK for LE to question someone returning from Russia, but not OK to question someone with an AR strapped to their chest walking down the street. With hindsight, anything can be improved upon. Overall, I think they did pretty good Id'ing/capturing/killing both terrorists in less than a week.1 point
