If voicing my opinion that being gay is morally wrong makes me a homopobe then I guess I'm a homophobe. If you guys will excuse me I have some skinheads over for a beer and a cross to burn later tonight. >_> I love how disagreeing with something makes you a bad guy instantly. I also don't agree with abortion. That doesnt mean I hate people who have had one, or who do agree with it. I don't agree with the gay lifestyle because of my relegious beliefs. That doesn't mean I hate gays or that Im gonna bomb a gay marriage ceremony. I guess some people believe in freedom of choice as long as you agree with the majority sent from the backwoods8 points

The more I see, the more obvious it is why they didn't charge Zim. Hell, they gave him a 4.5 hour grilling without his even asking for a lawyer apparently. Daily it looks more and more clear that the local call on part of police/DA to not charge him was correct and reasonable. - OS6 points

Ignoring all that internet chatter, I think the threat to him is very real. The people that will go after him aren’t posting on twitter and I doubt they are the type to challenge him to gun fight. The New Black Panthers openly put a bounty on him dead or alive and the justice department stood by silently; that says a lot. There are people waiting for a reason to riot; they don’t care about Martin or Zimmerman. Either way the verdict goes; they will use it as a reason to destroy property and steal stuff.5 points

Welp Dave it's obvious that you cannot be reasoned with, nor will you even conceede the most simple, undeniable truth of the matter, instead inventing unreasonable standards that have absolutely no basis in the reality of the situation that Zimmerman faced. You might have well just have typed "Trayvon didn't do nuffin" clicked submit/post and saved us all the trouble of reading that long-winded and completely asinine post.4 points

I agree. That term has never made any sense to me whatsoever. Being phobic means being scared of something. I assume it was meant as an insult as it seems to be a current theme that if you disagree with homosexuality, it means your scared your gay. Well I'm very disappointed that HQ did not correct the error on Page 4 that I pointed out during the comment period. Jeff Cooper was not a Full Colonel. :shake: He was a LtCol, USMCR. That important distinction is kind of.., sort of..., well its very important to some of us. OK, all kidding aside. I've been an SO now for over 12 years. I don't see where this new rulebook has done anything that really improves IDPA. The changes that were made seem to be petty with undue concern for trivial matters. These changes have only made points of friction and conflict by the creation of dissimilar ideas. There was insignificant focus on the important, with a deliberate and unworthy foolishness to change the utterly commonplace or unremarkable (i.e., Shooter Ready). This new rulebook displays a total lack of wisdom and the required anticipating vision of what was needed for the growth of IDPA. Epic Fail.3 points

I agree completely. Now if we can just get both sides to figure out that choosing one way or the other for your reasons does not mean forcing the other side to believe the same. That's what's awesome about a free country, I can believe in abortion and guns and know that many don't, but we can still coexist, or can we? My point obviously being we all seem to say it's a choice when it suits us, but as soon as it doesn't, then it shouldn't be a choice. I am not saying that directly about Spots, just to his point of coexisting. I am as guilty as the next guy.2 points

Well all of the assorted gangs, black panthers & nation of islam, etc, etc, are already organized, have means of funding themselves through their illicite activities, and are of course already armed, sadly even some of them are former soldiers, some even have combat experiance. If they decide to "go to war" the authorities would be hard-pressed to contain them even if the authorities wanted too, especially if they "go to war" during chaos that the unorganized mobs would be creating in the aftermath of a not guilty verdict. If any significantly sized groups of "white people" attempted to organize, for any reason, in a militia-like fashion, they would be targeted by the authorities and the media, especially by this administration & justice department. Every alphabet agency in the nation would come down on them HARD prehaps even go so far as to plant/manufacture evidence/charges to bring down the group. God forbid there was another actual Civil War in this country, the authorities would undoubtedly be guaranteed to be on the "wrong side" of it, even if the aggressors were comitting atrocities & the defenders were just trying to protect their families.2 points

Its going to be interesting once the trial is fully over. I don't think TN cities will have anything to worry about but Florida and some other places, definitely. I say in the long run it aint goin to. I think we are gonna see this country devolve into a confederation of sorts just as ive opined. One will be comprized of "on the dole" states; the other the "ya have to work" states. The "on the dole" states are goin broke. They will demand more dollars for the "dole". They wont get 'em; they will (...and are...) dry up . The Federal gubmt will try to put the arm on the "ya have to work states". Some smart governor about like Rick Perry (...remember him, he wuz "too dumb" accordin to the media the the republican insiders to become president...) and some smart state's attorney will sue the Federal Gubmt sayin that the Fed's cant withhold dollars duly collected by the individual states (...which the court has already said, by the way ALA John Roberts and Obamacare....). Said another way: "...what each individual state pays in to the Treasury must come out of the treasury back to that particular state via "block grants" for specific purposes. That means that each state will manage it's particular program (...welfare, healthcare, ect ect...) using state programs as outlined by state law; each state imposing it's particular set of rules (...drug testing, ya have to hunt for work, ya have to go to school... you get the idea....); not the federal government. It's the rise of "state's rights" vs the federal government redux ALA the Civil War without firing a shot. The "ya gotta work" states will encourage businesses to settle in their particluar states; that is, they will make their state a "business friendly" state ALA Tennessee (...volkswagen and nissan...) and Texas; becoming richer. The "on the dole states" have already run all their businesses off, becoming poorer ALA Michigan and Kalefornia. If what i've described happens, it will clean up the "on the dole" thing, and put the management of welfare, indigent care, dividual states. Let's hope im right. Otherwise, we will become South Africa and Rawanda. leroy2 points

I did a quick look at every major or mass killer in the last 20 years. Nearly every single one supports the Democratic agenda or are a liberal Democrat themselves. I have ever heard some say they don't like guns because they are afraid they couldn't control themselves if they had one. This proves to me they have some sort of mental deficit if they are afraid an inanimate object will force them to do something. If Zimmerman gets aquitted there will be rioting in the streets. This maybe the spark that starts the country on fire. We may not see it in our communities or where we live here but we will feel the effects of it.2 points

Boys, not that y'all ain't been doing it already but everyone needs to be studying. Learning every skill you can do with your hands. Everyone needs to be finding EVERY WAY POSSIBLE to get off the grid as much as possible. Now don't flame me for advocating something illegal, it's just the times we live in, you should be finding ways to hide what is yours. How you do it is up to you. Look in the mirror when you take a shower this evening. Look yourself in the eye when there's no one else around and you cannot lie to yourself. .....Can you really take care of you and yours? How dependent are you on others? If you haven't had a soul searchin' over this, now is the time.1 point

I understand your point and I presumed that was what you had in mind. The flaw in that logic is that people assume the general population leans toward being open-minded about firearms possession, when I am confident in saying it is the opposite. There are plenty of gun owners out there who don't agree with open-carry under any circumstances beyond being actively engaged in a sporting activity that requires it. Keep in mind, we are talking about a population that generally believes that AR15s are "machine guns" that hold "bullets" in 30-round "clips" and have no value beyond the battlefield. They believe that a person flies through the air when shot, that guns need to be registered, private gun transactions are illegal or shady, that there really is a "gun show loophole", and that guns are as easy to buy as a pack of chewing gum. I could potentially go along with an open-carry rally that is specifically organized in a lawful manner, in an appropriate venue, and with a clear message that doesn't include belligerent talk about revolution. I will not support the idea of showing up to a political event and bringing the firearm along just to make a point. The point you are making is not a good one.1 point

Use what you bought as a range belt. For carry, take a look at these Beltman belts. They aren’t cheap, but mine still looks nearly new after 3 years of everyday wear. My 1.5†will go through the loops of Levis and most other pants, other than some dress slacks. It’s a solid belt that will hold up anything you put on it. http://www.thebeltman.net/bh112.htm Many use a Velcro under belt that holds the duty belt in place. You can also use belt keepers. If you need some belt keepers check out Greene’s Military on Lebanon Pike. While there have them show you the Safariland Duty Belt set-up with the Velcro under belt for the next time you need a competition belt.1 point

I forged the blade a little while ago and ran across it last week in a box. The blade hold an edge but nowhere near something like 5160 or 1095 even. Heat treat went like this: 3 times normalized quenched in motor oil, no dice quenched in water, worked I did a very light temper at 375 for a bit. It'll work for a use knife. More of a practice in fit and finish, really.1 point
-
Just my two cents, but if I end up needing to use a knife for self defense, I don't think it's going to take much mental preparation to get the "ferocity" needed to try and protect myself. If it's down to using my knife, things have gotten really really really really bad and it's literally a very dire life or death situation. I think that this article over-estimates the knife fighting skills of your typical street thug. In the real world the chances of being engaged in a "knife fight" are essentially zero. In 10 years of policing, I don't recall ever arresting a single person that had a blade on them that was going to be used for knife fighting. If a thug did approach me with a knife, I'd be very confident that they have no more knife fighting skill than I do, so even minimal thought and effort put into learning how to fight with a blade will give you the edge in just about any situation you may find yourself in. All that said, I'm not really sure what the author's point is.1 point

Apparently, one isn't supposed to fire shotshells from the .38 Special version of the Cobra derringers. I had thought about purchasing one of them just to play around with and use mostly for shot shells and that fact (as per the company website) is a big reason I didn't. Strangely, the 9mm version is okay for use with shotshells (again, per their website.) I have fired shotshells (of the proper, respective calibers) from my S&W 642, Heritage Rough Rider, H&R 9 shot .22LR revolver and my NAA mini revolver with no problems. In fact, I have a sort of odd story about them. The story is a bit long (and, I hope, not a complete hi-jack of the thread) but I believe it is worth reading: Last year, I discovered that at some point a snake had taken up residence in my commode. No, I am not joking - the darned thing was living in my toilet. See, my old crapper had, well, crapped out (developed a crack/leak) and it had been replaced by one that was already on hand and that had been stored in an out building. The replacement had taken place during cold weather so my best guess is that the snake was already hidden somewhere inside it, hibernating. It must have woken up when it found itself in warmer environs. However it got there, I'd raise the lid to use the bathroom and the stupid thing would be hanging down from somewhere under the rim of the bowl - just its head and three or four inches of its body - and it would quickly pull itself back up into its hiding place. As you might imagine, dropping a deuce while knowing there is a snake with quick, easy access to your tender bits is disconcerting, to say the least. The snake had to go (and I mean leave, not, well, you know.) I first tried getting rid of it without harming it. The problem was, while I was pretty sure it wasn't venomous, I still didn't want to get snake bit. I have heard of people getting really sick from non-venomous snake bites because even non-venomous snakes can have some pretty bad bacteria in their mouths and I figured that went double for one that lived in a freakin' toilet. Being that I wouldn't exactly be able to choose where I grabbed the thing, I figured that getting bitten was a good possibility - and that was not something I wanted to explain at the ER. In the beginning, I wanted to try and humanely catch the snake and then release it into the wild. I started out trying to grab it with a pair of channel locks (in the interest of that whole not getting bitten thing) but it seems that a snake can pull itself back into its hidey hole faster than I can do that. I then donned a thick, leather glove and figured I would just 'man up' and snatch it out of there. Nope - the snake was still too fast. At this point, I decided to discard the 'humanely' from my plan to humanely remove the snake. I bought one of those frog-gigging heads that looks like a pitchfork that a tiny Satan might use on the Lilliputian souls in hell and attached it to the end of a short pole. I then went into the bathroom strode bravely onto the battlefield with my frog gig trusty spear in hand. I imagine I must have looked like a latter-day King Leonidas, bravely facing my foe with only the strength of spear and sinew standing between me and certain death or serious injury annoying discomfort. I quickly raised the lid and struck at my foe. To my credit, I landed a solid blow to the beast's serpentine body. To the discredit of Eagle Claw brand frog gigs, rather than penetrating the Wyrm's armored hide, the damn tines just bent (then broke off when I attempted to bend them back where they belonged.) I was almost certain I heard the fiendish snake chuckle as it retreated once again into the recesses of my crapper its lair. Snake 3, Person 0. Now, as they say, it was on. At this point, anger and frustration began to overwhelm caution, reason and good sense. I decided that, as Sam Colt had made all men equal, a descendent of his creation would probably help level the playing field between me and the no-legged bastich that had the audacity to occupy my throne. Yep, I decided to shoot the SOB. Now, I am not a particularly stupid person. I have a couple of college degrees to attest to my relative level of intelligence. Remember I said that my old toilet had just been replaced and that was what had lead to this unfortunate series of events in the first place? Well, luckily the old toilet was still around. Rather than risking destruction of the snake-infested bowl, I decided to test out the snake shot on the inside of the old one. The test went off without a hitch - using the .22LR shot in the aforementioned H&R revolver, the shot did no damage to the inside of the test bowl so now it was time to put the theory into action. I waited until I was sure ol' legless would be hanging down from the rim of my bowl like an anaconda hanging from a jungle tree, flipped the bowl open, quickly acquired my target and fired. Success! Quick as the serpent was, my trigger finger was quicker - nor was the scaly monstrosity faster than a speeding bullet load of shot. Still alive but mortally wounded, the entirety of the creatures body slipped rather unceremoniously from the recesses of my John Ferguson. I cried out in triumph ("Hell, yeah! Take that, you little bast*rd,") and, finally, removed it from the bowl. It was then that I could finally tell, for sure, that it was probably a rat snake (or maybe some variation of chicken snake.) As the flood of adrenalin and the heady rush of battle subsided, I actually began feeling a bit sorry for my valiant foe. Not that I wanted it back in my toilet or regretted going to whatever means necessary to get it out but I did find myself wishing that we could have come to a more peaceful accord. Alas, however, that was not meant to be.1 point
