there should be no minimum wage. Free market will decide what a pay rate is for any given job. If you want to pay $2 an hour you probably aren't going to get very good help so you will raise the rate to the point you get good help. It is a simple theory.6 points

Greed is such a negative, overused, and (often)incorrect word. Self-interest is a more accurate term when used correctly in context. It is in a corporation's self-interest to maximize shareholders value. It is greedy to do so at the cost of moral faculties. It is self-interest for CEOs and COOs to fulfill their contract and achieve pre-agreed metrics that are rewarded with bonuses. It is greedy to achieve such results immorally, unethically, or otherwise fraudulently. Greed is more in line with selfishness, and I believe there isn't enough care given to distinguish greed and selfishness from self-interest. For some odd reason, possible a conspiratorial brainwashing scheme or maybe the decline in critical thinking, the terms greed and selfishness have become interchangeable with self-interest, and even synonymous.4 points

Words can't describe how proud I am of my older brother. I get misty eyed just thinking about it. My brother has been through hell and back while in the Army. Just 48 hours after enlisting in the FL National Guard he was told he would be going on a 9-10 month deployment to Africa. During his 2nd tour in Iraq his Humvee drove over an IED and he was the only one in the vehicle to survive. Despite that, he recently decided to serve our country again my joining the guard. He was supposed to be my best man at my wedding in October but won't be able to join. I'm just proud to call him my brother and I wanted to share. http://www.baynews9.com/content/news/baynews9/news/article.html/content/news/articles/bn9/2015/7/23/soldier_deployment_f.html#.VbF7VPLGlQI.mailto3 points

What I fail to see is the problem to start with. It's not like everyday you see grandpa at the check out in Wal Mart holding the cashier at gunpoint until they hand over the Meta Mucil-I think there is a whole lotta fix looking for a non problem to start with.Where do these politicians dream this crap up from.Sounds like a straight forward gun grab to me.3 points

When the market was free, it got people away from manual agricultural jobs that didn't innovate much. People shifted from hard agricultural jobs to manufacturing during the free market period because the jobs paid so well, and they didn't have to work themselves to death in the crop fields. Now the safety issues associated with the new industry are a whole 'nother discussion, but no one can deny the economies of scale that were created during the free market days. Many workers went from low paying agricultural jobs to low skilled manufacturing jobs that paid almost as well as highly skilled artisans in Europe. Products were made considerably more affordable, and thanks to that free market innovation and mechanization, one person could produce the labor of dozens without any extra effort.3 points

Minimum wage is a price floor that limits the demand for labor; it doesn't increase employment nor does it increase any growth, especially since it only affects about 5% of the working population. Also, most people associate the raising of minimum wage with higher prices of goods and services, which doesn't really happen; again, minimum wage is a price floor that limits the demand for labor. Businesses would simply either discontinue hiring and condense the division of labor. The business cycle has upswings and downturns naturally; given no influence from government. There are plenty of other factors that have a much greater affect on economic growth than wages, and, as stated above, increasing the mandated price floor for 5% of the population can't possibly account for growth to the magnitude of investments, tax cuts, innovation, new markets, increased production as a result of previous investment, etc.... Generally speaking, when you look at a business cycle that is experiencing growth from year to year, there is naturally an increase in inflation(naturally based on "our" monetary system). Deflation is often occurs during market corrections (recessions). Inflation is also influenced by monetary policy, but that is besides my point. When the economy is experiencing growth, inflation will occur naturally up until or just after the market correction (withholding artificial effects of monetary policy), and most increases in minimum wage happen to occur either during economic upswings to create the correlation that an increase in minimum wage increases the GDP, or otherwise nets positive economic growth. Just a correlation, and a weak one at that. I should put a chart together sometime, but that's a lot of data to digest.3 points

It's not often that my mother sends me a link to something funny but she did tonight. I'm in the bed laughing my ass off while the ol' lady tries to sleep. I really get a kick out of this. More than I do with the NFL bad lip sync. Thought I would share. He was definitely out of his head on stage. Maybe a little LSD and coke? https://youtu.be/3xJWxPE8G2c2 points

I am 67 years young and I am able to take total care my myself both my finances and every other aspect of my life. I will not allow the Feds to do anything through Social Security to take my firearms. I am writing all of my elected officials and demanding that they stop this maniac President from enforcing these stupid pen pushing bureaucratic policies to be passed. I do have arrangements in place should the day ever come that I feel I can no longer take care of my finances that will allow my family to assist me with them but they will never be made a legal guardian until I am on my death bed and then I won't care............jmho2 points

My wife and I watched this video yesterday and couldn't believe the stupidity involved. I can't believe they hassled this guy for nothing instead of arresting the woman who calls the police and fire dept. when he grills in his back yard. She knows better. I can tell the homeowner is perturbed, but he was a lot calmer than I'd have been over this ridiculousness.2 points

I've been watching this private citizen guard thing going on at the recruitment centers with mixed feelings as aside from making the "citizen guards" feel good that's about all I see of any merit. Bear in mind the murderer in the Chattanooga incident first did a drive by with a semi automatic rifle. His next and final stop wasn't a strip mall recruiters storefront. It a slippery slope full of inherent liability for those choosing to do this guardianship thing where not only do you risk personal safety you also jeopardize your very financial future. If this is what one feels they have to do then so be it.2 points

So I was checking out Kickstarter a few months ago and ran across this one these knives. Not sure why but I just really like the look of these. I figured they would make good utility knives for the garage and kitchen. I finally got them in the mail yesterday. I got both the 3" and 4". They are very sharp. Now I just have to see how they hold an edge. 1 point

If metals were a great store of value, great granddad's ounce of silver would still be worth the 2 or 3 days labor. You keep the silver, I'll take all that worthless fiat currency you can spare ...1 point

I don't have this EXACT scope, but I do have a Bushnell AR Optics scope (4.5-18 X 40). I know there's better scopes out there, if you have a bundle of cash to spend. I could not be happier with mine, especially for the price. It's super clear, tough as nails, and easy to setup. I'll definitely buy another for my 15-22 when it's time to upgrade from the Simmons that is on it now.1 point

We could fence them in. And enforce the border like the border of any socialist country. Strict accountabity if they are authorized a visit to normal people. Electronic monitoring to include screening for stupid words that they might spew. If course, they can no longer have control of any policies, schools, gov or regulation. It is starting to sound good to me!1 point

I have had my share of two wheels under me over the years but just out grew it I guess( actually got to old) But over the years I owned a Hard tail, a Low rider, 1200 Sportster and finally got my hands on an ole 62 Electroglide which I really enjoyed but a guy that had more money then sense saw me riding it one day and he offered me about 5 times what I paid for it so let him own it. That was my end of two wheel rides....................... :up:1 point

I think there should be a law passed telling liberals where they can live and the rest of the normal people can live and that way we will all be happier knowing just where all the liberals are. That way normal folks can enjoy life and the liberals can live how ever they please also. I know it won't happen but what happened to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness?................... :shrug:1 point

All of the reviews from Amazon are excellent. I personally, have no experience with them. From reading this morning there is a G45 set to release soon. Not sure of your price range, but Optics Planet has them for ~$520, usually with free shipping and no sales tax. If you will watch Optics Planet, you can get a 10% of coupon every now and then. Maybe like them on FB, or sign up for email deals, usually new people will get the 10% coupon. I have snagged some good deals on my Eotechs and Aimpoints this way in the past, and Optics Planet is usually has the best price, and I think is an official retailer for those items. Have to be careful on the internet due to fakes, stay away from ebay.1 point

Are folks ever going to figure out that minimum wage was never intended to be a career? It was intended for high school kids to make gas/beer/date money. Struggling to get by on minimum wage is supposed to motivate people to better themselves. I guess it's easier to whine to the government.1 point

It can go both ways; the intention of my post was for perspective. Back then money was backed by something physical, now it's backed by magical promises and pretty nothings. Precious metals are a terrible investment in general based on their volatility. In the long term they are a great store of value, especially when fiat tender goes bunk. Higher minimum wage means prices on everyday goods goes up to offset increased wages. No one wins. Most of us lose. Minimum wage should be dead set at 1¢ per day. Let the market and individual skills/work ethic set the actual pay rate. Capitolism works but you have to stop screwing with it and let it work for itself.1 point

A guy walked into a crowded bar, waving his 1911 Colt pistol and yelled, "I have a .45 Colt with an eight shot magazine, and I want to know who's been screwing my wife?" A voice from the back of the room called out... "You'll need more ammo!"1 point

This morning I stood guard at the recruiting center in Paris, TN. Made contact with the leaders of the guard duty, whom are in a group called the Oathkeepers (for which, I am not a member), I told them I'd do the duty Friday morning (today). Duty was simple was sitting out front of the center. The guard leaders requested that long guns not be seen, but whatever I had in my truck was fine. I had my AR-15 with three 30-round magazines available. I do have my permit to carry and carry concealed with my shirt over my Glock 17. As the office opened, I met with the Army recruiters, a SGT and SSG both with combat patches, one with a CIB. The SGT has the CIB but hasn't put it on, he also has a Purple Heart. They expressed their appreciation for me and told me to make myself at home. While at my station, a man in a truck drove up and got out with a bottle of cold water and thanked me for what I was doing. When the recruiters departed, I left since I was not going to be there to guard an empty building, I am there to protect the recruiters. I did not have any negative feedback or comments while I stood guard.1 point

I was up in Galena last October and, despite knowing about this section of law, I came in from the Iowa side with my pistol field stripped and padlocked in one hard side gun case and my mags and ammo padlocked in another hard side pistol case, both stored in a floor compartment in the rear of our Pilot. You guys do what you want, but I don't trust Illinois authorities any further than I can throw Maryland and New Jersey both, so I played it really cautious............. I continued on out of Illinois like this and stopped and put everything back together when I got about three inches into Indiana. I'm going back this October and I intend to do it exactly the same way unless I can determine that Illinois has suddenly developed a heretofore unknown streak of fairness and tolerance towards lawful gun owners.1 point

I have not seen every picture or every placement of an armed guard, but from the limited pics I have seen these guys are the first ones shot. Standing right out in front. Sitting ducks. Good intent that would end with bad consequences.1 point
