  1. ^ This ^ Being a benefactor of TGO is worth it even if I'd never been able to buy/sell or do so again in the future.

  2. No one part of the state has any kind of monopoly on buying and selling on this forum or any other available venue. It all has to do with what is offered when and where for what by whom.

  3. I know what a daughter wuld say. Do NOT stop taking any med without talking to your doctor. I also had the heart attack and stints a few years ago. I still take my meds today. And if you think handling a knife is scsary try handling one with Parksinson's. My family wont let me anywhere near sharp objects. LOL To top it off I take insulin. Even that little tiny needle can be a pain at times if it wants to bleed. No again, try imnjecting yourself when you shake. LOL

  4. For reasons I won't go into, I highly recommend that you not stop taking it until you talk to your doctor. In the meantime, this is your friend: When you get a cut, dump some pepper on it until you build up a nice mound. It soaks up the blood and something in it makes the blood congeal and harden. Blow off the excess and slap a nice tight bandaid on it. If it seeps through, put another one on top of it. (I've never had to use more than two). You just need to keep it dry for a few days. The ash tray in my truck used to be full of the little pepper packets from fast food joints and bandaids

  5. Seriously, give it a shot. I think you'll see some cool stuff pop up in the Chattanooga area. Most members are willing to drive a bit for a transaction, so if you are open to driving to South Pittsburg to meet people from Nashville or conversely towards Athens to meet people from Knoxville, you've got most of the state covered.

  6. According to all the guys I have dealt with that are not part of this forum, you can just go to a garage sale and pick up a old .22 rifle or 12ga single shot for $20. Now for honesty...In NE TN there are is not anything special beyond what you listed. We tend to buy guns and not sell them. To compound the finding of a good deal, we seem to have a large number of professional gun flippers in the area. They tend to suck up all the good deals and spit them back out as top end priced sales ads the next day. Gets frustrating at times because the seem to have nothing better to do than pound the refresh key on any local gun sale sites. I have resorted to Gunbroker a few times, but the transfer fees are climbing. Shipping, transfer, and bgc usually tack on $55 at least. Makes it hard if you are looking at a $250 gun. Even if you never get to buy anything through the forum, it is well worth joining for all the other interactions.

  7. I dug out my old Second Chance brand vest that I bought in 1995 when I was a reserve deputy with the sheriffs office. We had to buy our own equipment so I kept it and today I dug it out. It was made in 1995 and most Kevlar is rated or warranty for 5 years. It is soft body armor Kevlar with no metal plates. Mine shows that it is a level IIA and is rated for 9mm 124gr FMJ and 357mag 158gr JSP directly and any angle. It's also rated for .44 mag at perpendicular angles . Today I took out my panels and shot it with 9mm 147 gr FMJ and 45ACP 230gr . I shot it at a distance of 10 feet. It stopped them both. I shot it with 2 rds of each caliber. Just thought I'd share this since it was kinda neat . 23 years and it still stops bullets. And remember that heat is supposed to degrade Kevlar : I kept this vest in the trunk of my patrol car at my present day job as a "worst case scenario tool" , kinda redneck but putting more on cant hurt. Anyways I'm sure it got really hot in there for several years and now after 23 years it still works. Pretty neat huh ?

  8. After having several Dan Wesson pistols in 45 acp and 10mm I added a second valor in 9mm to the group today. I had several 9mm pistols but the only full size 1911 was a Rock Island. after a few hour drive getting home it's too late for a range trip today. However in the morning it expect it to fire a few hundred rounds without a failure as all the other DW pistols have done.

  9. I have been a benefactor since I joined the site and don't regret 1 second of it. If I was a yonger man I would become a lifetime member but my lifetime is behind me so I just renew when I get the alert that it's time to renew. I live in Middle Tennessee only about 11 miles from the Kentucky state line and I have driven all the way to Springhill almost in Alabama to pick up a gun I really wanted so people driving to get something they want on TGO happens often.............JMHO

  10. I've seen videos of these. Being a 357mag fan, I'd get one if I could. Didn't realize the heft on these monsters, they have it weighed in at 5 lbs. Personally, this would be a range toy at that weight. My avatar is looking towards the firing pin of a S&W 686 with a 6" barrel.

  11. Breathing may hurt after a hit to the vest, but it's better than the other options.

  12. Nice! I dont want to be in that vest when they hit though. I imagine breathing would hurt the next day.

  13. I had seen a report once testing a bunch of old body armor material, Kevlar, if I remember right, held up the best over time. I've done the same to a few old level IIIA panels, with 5.56 and 9mm it stopped the 9mm, and a few 5.56, but barely.

  14. That is one thing you will never as far as I know see a racist gang. They will take in all comers as long as you follow the chain on comand your in. Gangs are not all black or all Latino, or Chinese. If your looking for that kind of life they will accept you into their gang. All gangs look at power in numbers.

  15. I can give an honest answer, but I fear I'll sink lower into the moderators' ire. What the hell. It needs to be said. As a culture, inner city blacks often breed like alley cats, resulting in a high percentage of children having no idea who their father is; let alone being able to learn from and being disciplined by them. Further, they are not taught a work ethic, and selling drugs paired with government assistance is an easy, labor free way to continue this lifestyle through the generations. That being said, this problem is NOT unique to black folks, but it looks to me like percentage wise, black people fall into this category more often than other races. Call me a racist or ban me from the forum, but please, show me the respect of disproving what i've said above first.

  16. The building it might be a lot easier than the keeping it to yourself part! So you don't think if he lives in Mt Juliet that folks in his neighborhood won't notice the two containers being delivered and depending on the concrete quanity your going to need and gravel your going to need will require cement trucks and dump trucks. I'm sure your neighbors are going to wonder what your building. You might try telling them a Fall Out Shelter for a Nuclear attack and they would come more to believing you than to tell them a storm shelter..............JMHO
