  3. In researching Stainless Hi Power copies and knowing that the Belgians never made one in SS...THEY ONLY CAPITULATED TO THE SS (woo hoo!) that's a WW2 joke BTW... I found an odd thing, I've never seen one in person. Don't know anything about it, but apparently there was a SS BHP clone made in Bristol TN! Baford Arms. Anyone ever seen, owned or fired one? Any feedback is welcome! Here's a link to some nice pics. https://handgunsoftheworld.com/product/bradford-arms-35-fire-power-9mm-high-power-copy/ I'm seeing 1988-1991 production, or rather existence of the company. Explains the (so cool for the time) Millet Orange front and white outline rear.

  4. I have another Norinco MAK-90/AKM for sale. Chambered in 7.62x39. All matching serial numbers. Straight cut receiver. No box with the rifle. Very nice gun. Shot very little. Plenty more pics or can FaceTime video to see. Must be legal to purchase/own firearm. Prefer to meet in the Chattanooga, TN., area. Prefer cash but will look at trades. $1,100 OBO

  5. I have been looking for this thread and finally found it. I wanted to post a picture of my Rosie. She has been beside me for the last 9 years as I rescued her from the needle when she was scheduled to be put down by a breeder because she was to old to breed at age 6. My daughter told me about her and I told her to speak up and tell the breeder that her father wanted her and she brought her home with her for me.

  6. So on a whim I bought a SarUSA P8S stainless on clearance from PSA like $299. Not for any specific reason other than to just mess with it. I've been wanting to try a pistol optic and possibly someday a suppressor. I confirmed with a dude at SarUSA the existence and availability of a threaded barrel and he was cool as heck and confirmed the 4.3" threaded barrel they sell can be had without ports so if I do decide to get a suppressor I should be good. There was some "drama" getting a functional plate...The nice dude from Sar sent me to Galloway Precision who had one that replaces the rear dovetail...not good at all...sent it back ended up getting one on SarUSAs website that works fine for what it is. But both companies did answer the phone and tried and I got what I needed and a no hassle return on the mistake...so good on both them. I picked up the Osight S on the cheap cause I can't afford to go "buy once cry once" on a concept that I may just hate. I just wanted something cheap and a donut of death as my astigmatism is problematic with dots. I really like it. The auto brightness seems pretty doggone good even in shade looking out into sun. So far everything with it has worked like it's supposed to. I on the other hand I am struggling a little. I think I'm getting better at it but if I'm aiming down I have trouble finding my donut...aiming level no trouble...aiming up no trouble. I'm sure if the slide was milled and there was even a sniff of cowitness that I wouldn't have the problem. But if a frog had wings it wouldn't bump it's rump everytime it took a jump...

  7. I was in the exact same boat....there was no way I was gonna drop a ton of money on a guaranteed "carry worthy" optics ready pistol and a high dollar RDS without some experimentation. And I ain't even thinking about modifying any of my "streetable" carry guns to experiment with. What convinced me to "pull the trigger" on the purchase was the clearance sale... It made me feel like I could get a larger portion of my money back selling it used if I just hate it. But so far I don't...

  8. I usually attend the gun show in Sparta every time. I have seen holsters vendors come and go. About 1 in 15 people are looking for a holster but are usually too cheap to spend money on quality.

  9. I make holsters, and at one time, I had a shelf of them for sale at a buddy’s gun store. Here’s what I learned: Rarely will someone buy a holster sitting on a table or shelf. If you have brown, they want black… Most folks just want to squeeze, twist, and pull on them for some reason with no intention of buying one. If on the off chance you do have something someone wants, they want it for $10. There are simply too many handgun models, barrel lengths holster styles, etc. to have on hand what someone will actually want. The best I think you could do would be to rent a table, display examples of your work, and take orders. People WILL pay good money for something custom made “just for them”. I think they are as much buying the experience as the product.

  10. In recent years past. Chuck Warner of Elite Warrior Armament did a run of about 30 stainless billet steel BHPs. He made some changes to improve on the original in some minor areas, the most obvious of which was a thicker frontstrap to allow aggressive checkering. I have a friend who ended up with one of these and he approached me to do a minor tweak or two on it. I took the opportunity to take a good set of photos while I had it. It was a fascinating labor of love and I kind of wish I had gotten in on the original sale when he was making them, but funds and fortune were at odds once again.

  14. That makes me feel a little better....cause what you called presentation drills is what I've been doing since I took it out to shoot...and it is getting better. My cat Frank Castle Mclovin probably thinks I've lost my mind drawing down on imaginary bad guys all the time...

  15. The trigger is pretty decent...it was a little gritty feeling but that went away after just a little shooting. It is a CZ clone and the trigger really reminds me of the P01 that I used to have that was unmodified when it was new....and it got better the more I shot it. Of course the trigger on the Cajonized P01 that I still own is far superior. So yeah the trigger is what you would expect from a double action CZ trigger. All in all it's a pretty nice gun especially for that kind of money. But yeah so far so good on the little O Sight S it zeroed well has held it fine (so far) and I've messed with it a bunch without using the charge hood just to get a notion on how long it's on board charge storage lasts (since it technically doesn't have a battery) and there seems to be no issue with worrying about charge life as it's consumed less than 20 % in the 6 weeks that I've had it and I've messed with it alot and I mean alot. And the hood will recharge the optic 3 times on a single charge via USB C which doesn't take long. Closed emitter...the glass is clear no fish eye at all. I didn't "torture test" it but I did put it under water for about 15 minutes to see if I could detect any water getting in it...and I didn't.

  16. ^^^ All of this, right here. There are tricks that can help a person acclimate to it more quickly, but the fact remains that this is a journey that never ends. Perfect practice makes perfect. More reps over more time just makes you better and better at it and keeps your proficiency intact.

  17. Milling's major benefit is in the security of the mount, any marginal difference in finding the dot is well down the list. Cowitness actually is a detriment in Red Dot systems. The real solution is more time on the dot. Mike Ox has a good book/virtual training course called Red Dot Mastery that I would highly suggest. That said, the secret is the work, if you want to get the most out of the RDS

  18. Don't know if it is possible to mill the slide. If you can, having the optic lower makes a huge difference in acquiring the dot quickly. I would pay for that long before playing with a suppressor.

  19. Over the last few years I've gone from no handgun optics to having them on all my carry guns. The good news is you'll learn to pick up the dot just like you learned to pick up the sights. The bad news is that's through repetition. Presentation drills (you don't even need to dry-fire, just 'present, place dot on target, repeat') helps a lot. Ben Stoeger also has some good videos about this, where he breaks it down in great detail. For me, optics have been a game changer; my eyesight had degraded to where shooting at 25 yards (where I used to be able to shoot 1 1/2" groups on a good day) was just about impossible. With the dot, I can do a Dicken drill clean (10 for 10) with relative ease, and shoot one hole groups again with my target guns. It's worth the effort. Larry

  28. Boiled down to it's essence, May 5, 1862, the French, fighting uphill in the mud, out of artillery support having started their charge later in the day, were defeated by a twin garrisoned force of Mexicans including Cavalry. In the Battle of the Puebla, in the Mexican province of Puebla (must've run out of names), the French forces, were marching on Mexico City to take over Mexico to satisfy war debts owed to the country of France, accrued by the previous ruler of Mexico, Spanish puppet Ignacio Comonfort. The first "indigenous" leader of Mexico, Benito Juarez had declared such war debts, owed to France, Spain and England suspended. Despite the fact that Mexico was only paying the INTEREST on those debts anyway. They landed in Veracruz and the Spanish and Brits left, having received new, and subsequently worthless IOUs from Juarez's government. The French weren't falling for it again. Defeated at the First Battle of the Puebla, giving origin to "Cinco De Mayo", they retreated back to Veracruz, were reinforced and resupplied and defeated the Mexicans at the Second Battle of the Puebla, marched on Mexico City and went on to occupy Mexico for several years, installing a Hapsburg Austrian liberal named Maximillian who believed in many of the land reforms of the "native" Juarez. He was eventually deposed and executed. Cinco De Mayo as a holiday outside of the province of Puebla was invented, like Kwanzaa, by Leftists making up History, in, OF COURSE, California. It is, essentially, Mexico's prideful "victory" as a deadbeat nation which never pays it's debts.

  37. Thanks for the post Turkeydad! I have many handguns but none of them are optic ready. I am still using iron sites. I just cannot justify spending money on a pistol with red dot sites that will make my other carry guns obsolete........I know, that is flawed logic. I am recovering from a shoulder replacement now and cannot shoot anyway. That will give me time to think about it.

  41. I have a Steyr GB and I agree on all counts. Despite its history and interesting design, it's not really a fun gun to shoot. The HK P7M13 I owned briefly was similarly disappointing. Well made and the machining was beautiful but it got hot and too dirty to run way too fast and I didn't own it long. When it comes to repeat ownership, CZ P-07 is probably the worst, more so because you often run across them DIRT CHEAP. I've bought three and sold the first two. I decided to end that particular madness and keep the third one. The Browning High Power is another one that I have a love/hate relationship with. I love the way they look and feel in the hand, but they're relatively miserable to shoot compared to more modern designs. I'll probably always have a couple around, though.

  42. For me its the Colt/Ruger style single actions. I've owned 5 or 6 over the years. Sold them all. I grew up on westerns and always loved the cowboy guns. I have an ongoing love affair with lever rifles and own about a half dozen from .22LR to .45-70. The problem is that a touch of arthritis in my shooting hand keeps my middle finger from closing completely. The result is that a Colt or Ruger type plowhandle grip makes the back of the trigger guard slam into the middle finger knuckle HARD! It only takes about one cylinder full to have that knuckle bleeding and make it sore for days. However, I found a solution by going to a couple of lesser known cowboy guns with a slightly different grip shape. A S&W Schofield and a Remington 1875. But alas, I still yearn for a real Colt.

  44. Here's a picture of the G36 Bolt held back on a empty mag. It functions like it should. These next two show how it looks put all together without the top rail installed. And here's the finished project with the rail installed. The next thing to do is get a set of sight then figure what type of scope to get. it was a fun project to do but it was a little pain in the a$$ but not bad. I learned alot about the HK G36 platform, and how simple the workings are in it. I may build a pistol version next with a 11.5" Bbl.
