  1. OSOE rigger's belt. If not that, then whatever, because I'm pocket carrying a 442.
  2.   The places that price guns like that are also preying on people that'll put that item on layaway, and take five or six months worth of finance charges to pay it off.   I've found plenty of great deals. Murfreesboro Pawn and Gun is one, One Stop in antioch is another. Occasionally at Lavergne Pawn and Gun, and at the Kwik Kash in Smyrna. A lot of times, the good deals are only on what sits for a long time. If inventory doesn't move, the shop will be more inclined to wheel and deal.
  3.   Another vote for the 442/642. I pocket my 442 anytime i'm running out or can't carry my full size. It goes in a black hills leather pocket holster.   I'd also prefer the enclosed design of the 442 over the 638, all manner of lint gets in the barrel of the revolver, even holstered. Wouldn't want to deal with anything falling down and getting in the way of the hammer. Just my :2cents:
  4. So, when sigbrown<insertstringofnumbershere> got a vendor sub and namechange to Amendment2CustomCoating, there was a little contest. By some odd stroke of luck, the fates smiled upon me and I was randomly drawn from the pool of all other contestants. Needless to say, the complete pistol coating is well... complete! And here it is! and of course, Before: Thanks for doing a great job! EDIT: The gory details: For those interested in the pistol's color palette: Slide: Tungsten Grey Frame: Magpul FDE Grips: Burnt Bronze Parts: Tungsten Grey For those interested in the photo/how it was taken (because hey, this is a showing off area): Camera: Nikon D3100 Tripod: Vanguard Alta Pro 264AT w/ SB-100 ball head mount Lens: Nikon Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 Lighting: Nikon SB-600 F-stop f/3.2 Exposure time 1/200sec ISO-200, flash: off camera 1/8 power +0.3, ceiling bounce(ceiling is standard ceiling white flat paint), built-in diffuser deployed
  5.   Edited the OP for clarity, photos you've taken, or of you are preferable.   (PS: if it wasn't in compliance with this EDITED rule at 4:13pm central time on 9/23/14, leave it up.)
  6. Preface: This thread had us talking about ways to get more pictures out in the open. So! Let's get started. Rules: Post a photo (Photos should be of you or taken by you, please*) as suggested by the poster above. Then, suggest the next photo's required subject matter. * EDIT: gah, I wasn't clear on that. New photos by you are ok, file photos taken by you are game, stock/internet gleaned photos weren't really in the spirit of the old thread. I should've been clear. Whoops! I'll kick it off with a "selfie" so you can identify the guy who started this thread. Try not to give me a hard time if you see me around town. Or do. Whatever. Next poster, take a picture of a plant.
  7.   This needs a photograph. Caption: "There. I fixed it."
  8. I think we need to see some chopping/splitting tests. This vs. a commercial camp axe. Lets see it!
  9. Ok, sorry, had to go and find it in IE.   it's located on the status bar, which isn't displayed by default in IE.   hit the ALT key, to view the menu bar - click view, then choose toolbars, then status bar. Adblock icon is in bottom right corner of the window now.
  10.   Click on the adblock icon, choose "disable on tngunowners.com"
  11. Man, if this was tomorrow, I'd be down. Thursday's are scout night though.
  12.   It was all for the Lulz man. For the Lulz.   I got a good chuckle out of it, thought you were being tongue in cheek. Thanks for the laugh!
  13. A moderately less competitive option for a thread is the "take a picture of 'x'" thread. Where the first poster starts, then names the next thing (random item, object or whatever) that's reasonably commonplace.   I also don't think that subject matter should be limited to firearms. There are plenty of other things common to our community that can sit as subjects. Favorite pen, knife, watch, tools in the garage, target after a range trip, what's in your pockets?, snack food, dinner, or any other meal. Favorite beverage - be it water, Coke, or some other libation could also stand in.   Get some photos going!
  14.   For the Lulz man. the lulz.   My entry:   Music City Coatings ( MC2 )   Good luck! Oh, and get yourself listed as an applicator on Cerakote's website bro!
  15. Heh, watchuseek is neat for lurking. Great source of info too. Got my grandfather's old pocketwatch repaired after talking to some members there.   congrats on finding what you wanted!
  16. I've got family that just moved to Spokane a few weeks ago. if you want to chat when 'em, I'll ask if they're up for it. Dunno how much they could help, as they're rather new to the area.
  17. Our scout troop uses the model that came just before these. They hold 3 adults and gear (in the vestibule) - its close but you're not rubbing elbows. 2 fit great with a walkway down the middle. 4 boys can fit, but it's extremely tight. They've held up very well for the last 7-8 years ( 10-12 outings a year, 2-3 nights per outing).   We just replaced the shock cording last year, and have a few broken zippers on the "cooler access door" the older version had. I don't think these newer models have that. Instead they've got generous webbing which should help with the poorer ventilation of the older model.   Of course, one of our adults is a civil war re-enactor - he brings his A frame to EVERY outing. I think he got his from Fall Creek Sutlery, it's a 6ft tall 9 foot long single door (back door added).   These are more expensive, but it's really great for camping.   The captain in their group uses a wall tent with a fly pitched in front. It makes for a very spacious tent.   A note about canvas: it sheds water very well, even in a downpour - but you can get a fine mist inside the tent. Wool blankets and synthetic sleeping bags will keep you warm. Down and or cotton will not. It gets wet, and you get cold...
  18. Impatiently awaiting pics! C'mon!
  19. Microtech?   Benchmade?   Uzi?   Schrade conversion knives. Gotta be Schrade.   /s
  20. If it has some end grain or other natural figuring, applying a dyed coat of something followed by sanding evenly with about a 220 grit. That should take the dye out of the less thirsty grains, and leave it in the more thirsty grains. Basically, wood grain and figuring absorbs products at different rates - some slowly, some quickly. So you can get the grain to pop by giving it a light sanding coat after your dye coat, then finish coat the sucker. Here's a decent video demonstrating the process using dyed shellac and a varnish topcoat on a curly maple pencil cup. Good luck, and don't forget... PS: I'm not a pro woodworker, I certainly don't know all the best tricks. I've just gotten lucky the few times I've done any woodworking projects around the house. Ask a pro!
  21. I like maps (pretty sure that's just a watermark, but it's good to have goals. Maybe you want to time travel.)   Make your girl a mix tape (sd card not included, I think)   Look at far away things.  (objects through lens may also be closer than they appear. Or farther. Your guess is as good as mine.)   Light up the far away things (at least a little. depends on distance. perhaps you should've bought the spyglass!)   Who needs a match? (maybe me, if this thing doesn't work. How bout a propane torch next time?)   Sporks. Kind of.  (for you and five friends. I want the blue one)     There. One of those should be interesting.
  22.   Oof, I think it was late April. Haven't heard anything, Guess I'll be making a phone call on my lunch break tomorrow.
  23.   Here's what I understand about it (non-lawyer, have one mailed in NFA Form 4 being processed - at about month 3 now)   A trust doesn't currently require Photo, Fingerprints, or CLEO (chief law enforcement officer) signoff. A trust can be e-filed (or could, until the system got overwhelmed. Form 1's are back up AFAIK)   Normal individual transfer: You have to get CLEO signature - in many areas this amounts to a defacto ban. Others it's just an inconvenience. I couldn't make it to the office in Nashville, so I mailed mine in, got it mailed back. Added about 2.5 weeks to sending it in. Then you get pics made (extra cost if you have them made at walgreens/cvs/etc). Then you get fingerprint cards done - luckily I work with some LEO and they took mine on the cards. Otherwise it's an extra trip in to the CLEO office for yours. Then you mail everything in - and wait a Year (more or less).   Trust: Skip the crap, go straight to mail everything in (or if e-file comes up then e-file). Wait a year (or if e-file comes back up and isn't overly congested, 2-6 months)   Finally, a trust can have multiple trustees who if the trust is prepared properly can be in posession of the device since it's owned by the trust.   Still have to wait and pay as you transfer the items to the trust. It gives peace of mind knowing your family isn't going to get in trouble by being in posession of an NFA item (even having access to the safe where they're stored could be considered posession, I think). Trust is definitely a good way to go. I would've, but I don't have anyone I would want to put on it with me, so just went the individual route.
  24.   Live in smyrna? Just head to the e-mart down Enon Springs. Easy to get to, almost always has 100% gas in tanks.
