What's in Tennessee?

Recommended Posts

Alright, on the surface that may be obvious. Nashville; country music, Memphis; blues and barbecue. Those are the obvious, easy attractions to our state. I guess what I'm wondering is, what else does our state offer? What attractions are on the back roads, that don't get much attention? A post on another thread brought Tennessee Highway 52 Tourist Trail - Portland, Westmoreland, Red Boiling Springs, Lafayette, Macon County to my attention. Until then, I'd never heard of most of those things, including the shortest railroad tunnel that isn't far from my house. There's the annual Truck and Tractor show at the Jamboree on Long Hollow Pike, and the Antique Tractor Parade in Bethpage. I've heard about a gasoline- free parade in Red Boiling Springs, but I don't know if it's an annual event.

It's nice to get out and cruise the country at 55 mph on a two lane road, but what should we stop and see along the way?

Old Timer's Day in Dickson, first weekend in May (washed away this year).

A fun week for the whole family. At my church, we dress up 'old timey'. I used to even hook up my mules and drive my mules and wagon to the church for service. Dinner on the grounds, good bluegrass gospel music (I play the banjo).

Pretty fun. Missed it not being here this year.

Jack Daniel's Distillary

Everytime I am on a flight, people ask me what is there to do in Tennessee, when I tell them that they can visit Lynchburg and the Jack Daniel's distillary, they all ask me how to get there whether they drink or not
