Confederate flag at school...

This article doesn't pertain to our school, but it did remind me of a recent event.

The first day of school, our high school has a new principal. He gathers the school together for his big speech. One of the items on his agenda was to ban the display of the confederate flag, or the wearing of apparel depicting it. Well, the next day, my kids as well as many other wore their best Dukes of Hazzard t shirts, and the superintendent's phone never quit ringing. Oddly enough, the new principal was told if he liked his job, he'd ease up a bit on the restrictions.

He was good with rainbow stuff and all that entails, but the confederate flag was a no go.

This makes me wonder what is now taught in history class.

Tenn. School District Says It Can’t Stop Students From Displaying Confederate Flag Unless It Causes a ‘Disturbance’

You can be sure there are those who will create said 'disturbance' just to force the issue.

So if some kid wears a rainbow shirt and it causes a disturbance it makes me wonder what would happen...if anything.

Good luck with that...just had a huge Confederate Flag Support Event in Williamson County not even 3 weeks ago and you know if a county like Williamson supports it then a county like Rutherford is probably just as supportive if not more. I dont see that flag going anywhere anytime soon. Edited by tennesseetiger

Cause it represents dukes o hazard which received bad ratings compared to all in the family and the Jeffersons!

I loved that show as a kid.  I had all those Dukes round film thingys for my viewfinder.  Also had a Dukes of Hazard lunchbox.  I can't imagine what would happen nowadays if I sent my 6 year old to school with that.

I loved "All In The Family". I'm so glad I grew up in a time when people could laugh at themselves and not get all butt hurt over every little thing. I feel so sorry for my grand kids having to grow up in this PC world.

Yep, Warner Brothers out in Hollywood must be a bunch of redneck racists for even producing a show with a car with a Confederate flag on it.

I still need it explained to me why a Confederate Flag is offensive.

Because most of the race issues have been dealt with. The racists now need something to stay relevant about so they can travel around getting paid. When the Confederate flag is banned everywhere it will be something else. They can also travel from place to place where whitey (or the Police) has killed a minority while committing a crime. They can whine about that and try to get laws passed that will disarm citizens and limit the use of force by cops.

For those of you that were to young to remember Archie Bunker and the cast of All In The Family.

This is what made the show great!

That's classic I'm still waiting to see what the brain surgeons are going to do with Nathan Bedford Forrest grave in Memphis. I don't know what they've done so far,but it should prove to be interesting especially with the preservation law that the governor signed... If it applies.... Edited by Dustbuster

Last I saw Isaac Richmond and his “Commission on religion and racism” was shown on video vandalizing the gravesite. For some reason MPD had to “decide” if a crime had been committed or not.

A man from Lincoln County Tennessee drove to Memphis to repair the damage from the vandals.

They were quick to react when this guy vandalized it.

I have been reading and studying the history of the Civil War all of my life and I have barely scratched the surface. Now people who know little about our history are trying to rewrite it to make the South look bad. They want to change the wording on "The 1850 Compromise." to read "The Appeasement of 1850".  They want to remove the word "Plantation"  and call it a "Slave Camp". If you really want to know about that war and US History, you got to dig. You may be surprised at the brutality of that war and the mercy and compassion. I hope our future generations will take the time to learn about our proud heritage as well as our sins.

I can understand people wanting to take the Battle Flag down from public buildings but the memory of our young men and boys who fought deserve a place in our war memorials, battlefields and cemeteries.  That is where I will make my stand and "I don't need no pardon for anything I done."

TRIVIA: After the ferocious and bloody battle for Shuri Castle on Okinawa in 1945 United States Troops raised the Confederate Battle Flag on the top.

Here it is in Viet Nam.

It is still flying today on America's battlefields.

It's amazing that the recent battle cries over flags and memorabilia are mostly vocal with minimal intelligent comment.
I'm talking about the recent upheavals not the rest. But you don't see native Americans defacing or trying to destroy mt Rushmore or other artifacts in the west. The Native American people were raped, beaten down, and victimized in every way shape and form with the only repatriation being the ability to open casinos on tribal land.....
No one has done anything about westboro baptist, where was the old douche buried that led all of the hatred against our soldiers?? Not a peep about him at all but nbf must be moved....puleeeeezzzz
Next we'll hear that the prizes in cracker jacks are racially improper.... Edited by Dustbuster
