You're probably right. Probably doesn't help that the FBI is trying to bring federal hate crime charges against Zimmerman for beating the hell out of Trayvon's knuckles with his face. I don't buy into the most far out conspiracy theories either, but I KNOW that the current bunch of criminals running the government are anything but my friends.2 points

Ah, but as in the case Moped mentioned earlier, it wasn't because they'd had too much, but rather because they suddenly couldn't have any at all. As for me, I carry a brick of black tea on my treks and it's always in my bedroll, so I don't have to worry about forgetting it. (If I forget my tea it's because I've forgotten my bedroll, in which case lack of caffeine is the least of my problems!)2 points

They are not required to check your permit. I was pumping gas while openly carrying. I cop pulled up behind me and started getting gas. He looked at me, looked at my gun, and went on about his business. Most cops in TN are used to interacting with armed citizens and don't care.2 points

Walking barefoot past a sign that requires it shouldn't be a criminal act. Neither should carrying past a gunbuster. I've walked by at least one that I know of that I didn't see. That could have earned me a bad day if someone would have noticed, and yet I had no intent to break the law. Walking past a sign should only earn an invitation to leave, not fines and jail.2 points

So last night me and the family were out eating at an event. After it was over a guy comes up and introduces himself to me. He said he noticed I was carrying (good eye, because I thought I was pretty concealed) and wanted to thank me for carrying and protecting my family and everyone else there (including his family). This is the first time anyone has ever noticed me carrying (or at least the first time someone said anything) and I was pleasantly surprised at his response. He is a real cool guy and I just wanted to share his unusual response.(not unusual to me, but unusual compared to most the stories I read on here)1 point

Neither your opinion nor mine is going to change the fact that in Tennessee, it isn't "your or my own personal business" even if it should be. Our ability to legally go armed and where we can go armed is controlled by the legislature - committing a criminal offense by carrying where yo are prohibited from doing so is not how law-abiding people should affect change; in fact, it may have just the opposite outcome.1 point

I believe, based on history and logic that there is a HUGE difference between "private property" used for private purposes (i.e. a residence, etc) vs "business property" that is purposely given over to/invites the public to be there. I too don't like leaving my personal safety to others (which is why I carry and why I spend a considerable amount of time/money each year on training). Nevertheless, what you or I believe is immaterial because Tennessee law currently allows business property to be posted and forbid the presence of firearms on the property and until that law is changed, knowingly carrying past a proper posting, no matter how well you conceal, is a criminal offense. I chose to neither break the law or depend on a "mall cop" to protect me - I go somewhere else (and when it makes sense to do so, I let the business know why I'm spending my money somewhere else).1 point

R_Bert is right. Learn to identify sassafras trees and keep a pack shovel handy. In scouts we used to take pieces of the root taking care not to intentionally kill the tree. Carefully putting the dirt back afterward.1 point

I think you're gonna miss out on a LOT of Super Bowls . If you think Obama and romney are the same, you probably need to change your information sources.1 point

Have done that for years and am sick of it. Also, to use your analogy but in reverse, it would be like telling a Tennessee fan that he has to root for either Alabama or Florida. Why would he do that when chances are he hates both? Nope, the Tennessee fan is probably still going to root for his preferred team (Tennessee) even if they don't have a chance of being National Champs that year while hoping for a better season next time - and supporting Tennessee does not indicate de facto support of either Alabama or Florida. See, to me, which of two privileged, anti-gun, pro-big government, left-wing, Yankee politicians ends up in the White House for the next four years probably isn't going to make a whole lot of difference - no more difference that whether Florida or Alabama go all the way makes to a Tennessee fan. Of course, not being a fan of football or politics, I will simply have to vote my conscience. In short, the thought of Obama being president for four more years makes me want to puke. The thought of Romney being president for the next four (or eight) years makes me want to puke. And just for the record, the thought of the Gingrich or Santorum being president for the next four (or eight) years made me want to puke. The Republican Party and the Democratic party both make my stomach churn.1 point

Well I agree with you there. Furthermore I don't think it should be a crime to carry past a posting. I look every time I go into a business and I still carried past a legal posting by accident. On entry I was distracted by my kids trying to carry one and hold the hand of the other while navigating through folks that were leaving. On the way out I noticed the gunbuster. I think it's crap that I could have been fined for doing nothing wrong other than not noticing. However, if the manager had noticed my pistol and asked me to leave I would have done so without incident, because I believe it is his right to do so regardless of the fact I disagree with his reasoning behind it. I guess what I'm saying is if you're CCing and no one is the wiser then fine, but if it's past a legal posting you may be setting yourself up for a headache.... not likely but the chance is there. However, being incensed by the fact that someone posts to the point of wanting legislation to force policies on business owners is a little fascist... it's not lost on me that our government already does that, but it's wrong, and more wrongs don't make a right.1 point

There are plenty of testimonies out there for reliable 3" guns. Mine doesn't work right now, but it will. Once it proves itself to be reliable, I won't hesistate to carry it.1 point

Bah, this has happened since the dawn of time. We just have faster, better media coverage and spreading of the word these days so such cases are more widely heard about. Billy the kid was under 18 for much of his spree, IIRC. There have been plenty more since then, and probably a few earlier ones as well. Go back much farther and you have to look at swords and knives instead, but there were plenty of young thugs with those as well.... lot of pirates were not all that old...1 point

Its like watchin a ball game between Tennessee and Alabama, but your pullin for Florida.......... they aint even in the game . A vote for Paul in the election is a vote wasted. In the primaries you vote for who you want or like in the general election you vote against the one you dis-like. sad but true1 point

Sat mornings are PACKED in all IHOPS, Cracker Barrels and Shoneys. I think it would be cool to start a regular monthly breakfast meeting somewhere for S. Nashville but open to anyone who wants to come. When the range in the 100 Oaks area gets open then we can add shooting to the agenda! Thoughts, suggestions?1 point

Then don't go there. It is that simple. You are the one CHOOSING to go to a posted business apparently at great risk of death. Do you have a right to peaceful assembly? Not at Hooters you don't. If you wanted to have a peaceful protest for gun rights inside of Hooters they can kick you out, the same as if they catch you carrying. Don't get me wrong, I understand some of what you're saying and I don't believe it should be a crime to carry past a gunbuster, but it is. If it wasn't a crime I'd carry concealed past the sign all day, BUT I respect the business owner's right to tell me to leave if I'm caught. That is the part you're missing here. Businesses have rights too, and if you don't like it don't go there... it's so easy a caveman can do it. Besides, how come you're okay with having your "rights" taken away on campus but not at Hooters? There have been far more college shootings than Hooters shootings.1 point

If anyone thinks they won't use a database to store data, you are kidding yourself. Memphis City Councilman Edmond Ford, Jr. made a proposal to use the scanners so that they could charge Non-Memphis residents who come into the city several times a week. Can't keep track of that without a database of some sort. http://www.wmctv.com...rive-in-memphis 1984 is 30 years late, but it is here.1 point

Figuratively speaking, maybe. In a true TEOTWAWKI scenario, I doubt that gold would have much value to anyone with any sense. Can't speak for anyone else, but I think I'd rather carry 10 pounds of food (or coffee) than 10 pounds of gold.1 point

I am sure this has been talked about but not going to read 6 pages worth of stuff. I believe in property rights but lets look at it based on current laws/ society norms. In society today, can I put up a store front and say "whites only", "No Blacks" or "Blacks sit in the Back"? My question is this, if I in today's society you can not turn someone away because of race or nationality why is it that you can keep someone out of your establishment based on the fact you are carrying a legally obtained fire arm while carrying a legally obtained permit to exercise constitutionally guaranteed right?1 point

Ask anyone that knows me. I can generally be bought for nothing. I offer to help all the time without expecting anything in return, money or otherwise. I get all kinds of calls from members here and give my number out freely to anyone who wants to talk. That is my contribution to our community here. Dolomite1 point

Let's continue to identify the obvious here. The media isn't going to report stuff like this because it ain't popular to report stories of black on white violence, especially if it is clear that it's racially motivated. The left runs the major media outlets. To do something unpopular in that community is to risk your livelihood. Isn't that what usually motivates people? For the same reason the media WILL jump on white on black violence; that is a popular story. Just look at these white supremacists that were rolled up in Florida. This isn't a story; these were amateur criminals and the charges were hardly reflective of people with means or opportunity to start a race war. Police departments might be apt to do the same thing. The folks that run these departments in big cities are just politicians hoping to hang on to power as long as possible. Why rock the boat and risk your livelihood? To arrest a bunch of punk kids for assault just to get lambasted by the media for racially motivated arrests? Not likely. I don't like it either. I don't like it because our society has clear double standards, and it wasn't long ago those double standards went the other direction. How soon folks forget. I don't see a "race war" or something like that ever happening. What I do see is a continued cycle of poor black kids being raised to resent whites because white people are the root of all their problems, which makes it okay to prey upon them. Major population centers will continue to devolve into Detroit-like areas and productive citizens will just move away. Funny that a lot of these mob attacks are taking place in cities that disarm the law abiding citizens.1 point

I doubt that minority David speaks of would be so violent if they had the ability to grasp simple concepts. One in particular I find both interesting as well nauseating is their dependence on social programs paid for by the working class blue collars they seek to destroy. They fail to understand that their sloth coupled with the lack of intelligence or aptitude for anything productive make them a slave. An infuriating concept for them I'm sure! Which brings me full circle. Could this be the real reason behind their aggression?1 point

I don't vote using that method either, but last time around the election was decided by those who did. This time I could pretty much care less what the republican platform is, just voting for whoever has the best chance to beat the Big O.1 point

My opinions about his guilt or innocence mean nothing. You are the one that said you are an expert on Florida law and that what he did was okay. Why did the investigating Police Officers ask for an arrest warrant; did they not know the law? I didn’t sentence him to the death penalty; I’m not a “New Black Pantherâ€. I still want to know why the person that offered that reward hasn’t been charged… is that legal in Florida also? This is all happening because the States Attorney’s Office failed to do their job and the citizens are not going to stand for it. Sure, now they have decided to take it to a Grand Jury, but I’m not sure any justice will come from that. Only one side of the story will be told there. It may take the Feds steping in.1 point

Robert, the facts I’m basing my opinions on are not in dispute. Treyvon Martin was walking down the street minding his own business, drinking tea and having some skittles; minutes later he was dead. Some azzhat neighborhood watch guy decided he looked suspicious so he stalked him, got out of his truck and chased him, called him a “f*@#ing coonâ€, got in a fight with him (according to you) and shot him to death. Treyvon Martin had no duty to retreat either. He had a right to “stand his ground†and fight his attacker. Unfortunately for Treyvon he brought a set of fists to a gun fight. This dirtbag couldn’t handle a 17 year old kid; he had no business out messing with people. And because he didn’t have the physical ability to take care of business he (and many others) feel that when he figured out he bit off more than he could chew; it’s okay to take out a gun and kill the kid. He’s wrong, and he’s going to find out just how wrong he is. Maybe you can identify with this guy because he’s a gun owner; I can’t. You can put any spin on it that you want, but if what you claim happened; I hope he is convicted and sent to prison. I don’t know, maybe I shouldn’t be so concerned with a trial. Even if this guy doesn’t go to trial, his life as he knows it is over. He’ll live in fear the rest of his life.1 point
