I went to a new gun shop this morning, an advertiser on this site who I visited because of the ad on TGO. Looking around and a double barrel steel shotgun caught my eye and I asked if I could see it.  He said Sure I just need to see your drivers license, I assumed to make sure I was a legal resident, I also showed my HCP but he wasn't interested in this.   While I was looking at the shotgun and about to say "Looks good I'll take it", I look up and see the person was scanning my DL, I asked why and he said "Store Policy, we have had some situations"    He gave me my drivers license back and I did not buy the shotgun.  Just saying, it pisses me off they scanned my DL with no justification. if I had bought a firearm they would have had all that info anyway.  Maybe I'm being unreasonable but I won't visit that store again.

As a born and raised Memphian I'm pretty well pissed about it.  There have been a couple of other events in that city the past month that have really set me off as well as far as my heritage goes, but I'll not go into it.   I'll leave it that and with this...there is no other city in this state I would have preferred to be born or grown up in, but the inmates have taken over the asylum.

I'd also like to see them repeal the need for a training certificate for batons too.

He started this crap by getting offended when another latino said, "adios" to him and doubled her bond and then replied with, "adios." What an egomaniacal asshat. And I have never understood why the 1st Amendment to the Constitution ceases to be applicable simply because you're in a court of law. If the judge is an asshole you DO have every right to tell him so. But because his ego can't handle the truth he uses the force he has at his disposal to put this girl in jail for a month for flipping him the bird? Took me long enough and a lot of searching for components but I finally loaded my first one. And then I loaded 30 more with various loads. The green tips are the Z-Max cartridges that I'll use as my control. Hopefully I can get a good day of weather to try them out.

  I actually working a case on a criminal docket in an East Tennessee Court (not Knox County, but close) a few years ago when a guy was being charged with an illegal knife charge for having it in his vehicle.  He seemed like a really nice guy and his explanation to the judge was that he always worked outdoors and had carried rather large folding knives his entire life and had no idea it was illegal.  As I was waiting for my client's case to be heard I had an opportunity to ask that guy's lawyer why he was being charged and made the comment that I'd be surprised by a charge like that in Knox County absent someone mouthing off to the LEO or guilty of some other crime. His lawyer informed me that it was a checkpoint issue with a young cop officer eager to issue lots of citations.  I remember thinking that my morning would have been easier if they person I was representing was as sympathetic as the good old country boy with a knife.  I think it had a favorable outcome for the guy but it's a great example of why you shouldn't ever be led to believe that because something is a "common practice" that you won't find yourself charged with a crime.     

Everybody in that town should show up at the school and police department and put a stop to this crap. If we dont stand up for ourselves, no one else will. This crap has gotten completely out of control.

  Why respond?  I view the purpose of this thread as nothing more than taking a cheap shot at Paul supporters.  Okay, Paul said something that was very insensitive, and in my opinion, dumb.  Do I agree with him?  Absolutely not.  However, I still support, not so much the man, but his ideas.  I still stand on the belief that Paul's ideas for fixing the mess in this country were by far and away the best of any of those running during the 2012 primaries.   While I very seldom agree with kieefer, he is correct in stating that Paul is no longer a factor in the political arena.  I will add that the only reason this is even hitting the news is because independent constitutionally-minded thinkers and the Tea Party are being attacked by Rove and his ilk.  Instead of a having a debate of ideas, the Rovians are engaging in the tactics of the left by focusing on a stupid little comment and try to make a big deal of it.    Expect a lot more of this type of petty crap to come over the next two years.  Instead of being attacked solely by the left, fiscal and/or social conservative Republicans, constitutionalists, libertarians, etc... are going to have to endure it from the neocons and the establishment.

I'm 99% sure it was an ID/Age Verification scanner.  The only info they are given is Name, Age, and whether the ID is valid or not.   Many Available:  http://www.avidbiometrics.com/Age-Verification-Scanners/   Seeing as a gunstore has to obey laws when it comes to who they sell to, I see no issues with the above type scanner.  Verification to cover their ass ...   You guys give small businesses a rough time ... These guys aren't trying to scam anyone, and if what is said is true -- several burglaries over the past few months -- I'd do the same.    I wouldn't be surprised if guns are bought every day with fake ID's and info.  My ID has never been scanned to check accuracy in the past.  Crook gets a fake ID made, copies that info with fake info on to a 4457, and the shop could potentially be held liable/responsible.   Moral of the story -- The store is covering their own ass.  Red Dirt - You gave them your ID to begin with.  If you weren't comfortable giving your ID to begin with, should have kept it pocketed IMO and left at that point :)   My $.02 cents

I found Prvi .223 today at one Walmart and scored 3 boxes then scored 3 boxes of Winchester 45acp target at another. So I guess I did my part.  :pleased:

I happened to pass by and check Walmart.  (Nolensville Rd/Bell).   As of 30 minutes ago  - They have about 20 boxes of American Eagle 223. 50 grains.  Varmint.  $11 or $12/box.  Limit 3.    I didn't get any; I don't have a 223 gun. Hopefully someone can use it.   Nothing else in the shelves except 22 shotshells and shotgun shells.

Well, I did my part to fuel the Great Ammo Famine of 2013 today.  Went to a Walmart that will remain nameless and there I saw about 13 boxes of Prvi .223 (20 cnt/55gr FMJ).  Got my three and went home happy.  :D

i am 26 years old, me and my cousin grew up doing the same things playing with toy guns etc and now everything that was acceptable when i was growing up will get you in trouble its sicking

I think you have a valid gripe with them scanning your license without your permission, but I think it was just a misunderstanding rather than a lack of consideration. I'm sure they aren't planning on selling your info or using that information for nefarious purposes, and so they probably didn't even consider it to be an issue... in their mind. Perhaps they should have anticipated customer concern. Maybe if you'd informed them that you aren't comfortable with them doing that, especially without your permission they would have changed their policy. And if they got huffy with you I'd agree with posting their info here. But I don't think this is anything beyond a misunderstanding that could have been cleared up on the spot, as opposed to posting here and chasing off customers.

If everyone who's ever flipped someone off got 30 days in jail for it, I'd invest every penny I have in prison construction companies and retire early.   Still no saying she is in the right or doesn't deserve to learn a lesson...just saying the judge was being a bully.

Papa:_____________   I agree with the opinion that the "ron paul" faction and the 'tea party" faction are (...in most cases...) two different factions.  You and i know that and can agree on it; but look at it from the karl rove goofy perspective: "...they are all the same ignorant rustics...".  That's what i think is goin on with the "tweet" thing.  They are tryin to besmirch and smear all factions that oppose them.  They aint worried about separating them; they dont like either one of 'em.   RE:  Isolationism..  Ive come to believe that continuous foreign war against some "implacable enemy" is a bad foreign policy decision; and that it is ethically indefensible.   There is no nation on the face of the earth that is more powerful, more feared, nor more aggressive than the United States (...when we take the notion...).  The main problem with foreign war is that, for the most part, it is unnecessary and does great internal damage to this country and it's citizenry.    Take a look at the broken lives, maimed bodies (...both body and spirit...), orphaned children, and widowed wives that this "war on terror" has wrought.  All for a war that wuz won in about six weeks.  I can support the six week war; i just cannot ethically support a continuous war against an "implackable enemy.".  Could it be that we are sacrificing our fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, and children in endless foreign wars to feather the nest of various special interest groups?  This is, indeed, a sobering and thought provoking question.  I would recommend that anyone who thinks about these things read this little book: "War is a Racket" by Smedley Butler.  The examples are a bit dated, but the message conveyed is, indeed, sobering.    For what it's worth, i didnt come to this conclusion hastily; nor did i want to believe it could be true.  It is antithetical to most folks (...mine included...) deeply held ethical and political beliefs; and is an affront to the principles on which this country was founded.  I have come to believe that while we are fortunate to live in the greatest country on the face of the earth, founded by the greatest set of founding beliefs and documents; we have raised up a morally bankrupt, ethically decrepit bunch of elitist politicians (...for the most part...) to lead us and make these world shaking decisions; many of which are both wrong and by design are made with an eye toward lining someone's pockets. As Butler said:  "...War is reckoned in dollars and paid for in blood...".   Dont be dragged off into the brier patch by those who say that "strategic interests" and "dangerous factions" are about to finish this nation off; and that we need to continue with this foreign intervention to ward off these "grievous dangers".  The swiss have been mindin their business for centuries.  No one has successfully threatened them.   I fully realize that this opinion may be a "minority opinion"; but it needs to be carefully though about by every american citizen.   leroy

I dont like that either.  I looked on the web and saw this:  http://www.instructables.com/id/Decode-Your-License/ Not sure if Im geek enough to do all that but I think I will try.  I'd be concerned too.  From what I saw online, one code has  only the information on the front, and the other has much more...not sure what software is available to business or scammers to harvest it tho...kinda worrisome.

When a phone number or email address is "asked" for its is possible to politely decline.   When I asked to see the firearm, the person behind the counter (owner I believe) said "I need to see your drivers license" I assumed he meant "see" not electronically harvest my info...

I expect them to inform me if they are harvesting my name address DOB DL # eye color and other info and placing it in their own computer system without my specific consent. I have looked at many guns at many gun stores and never had to give them my person information up front, especially gathered my information without informing me what they were doing, only when a purchase is made. 

All I will add is to keep up the pressure on all fronts, it is MOST IMPORTANT we do this. There are other fights out there as well, border securty, taxes, drones, as well as or firearms, mags, background (info grathering) checks. Just keep sending the demandes WE WANT. I end every e-mail with "WE THE PEOPLE VOTED YOU INTO OFFICE. WE THE PEOPLE WILL VOTE YOU OUT OF OFFICE. DO AS WE THE PEOPLE WANT!"

I wouldn't like that either.  I would have demanded my info back.  What store was it?  I think it is valid that if that is their policy, everyone should know who it is.  That's not the way to treat people.  They should also respond and say why they do this just to look at a gun.
