LOL Don't start like you guys did went I ranted about people touching and shaking hands all the time. I'm serious. When I'm in Walmart, I understand having to stand close to people in line. In line at the DMV, waiting for a bucket of popcorn at the movies. Understood. But the more space we have, the more space we should give. In a wide open area gimme two feet, jeez. I wished to GOD I could have worked up a chili dog/Strohs/nachos bell grande fart. I'd have give him a John Cleese and farted in his general direction.4 points

I wouldn't accept anything, period. I would want a lawsuit to reflect the gross negligence of the officers and see those officers thrown in jail. We don't know the circumstances yet, but I can't think of any circumstances where it would be appropriate to shoot two women who are unarmed from behind. I really can't. The officers that pulled the trigger need to be in prison, same as if you or I had indiscriminately shot at a person.4 points

Rev, as someone who has had several dozen Muslim Arabs try to kill me, I can tell you that all my targets will be wearing turbans and sporting AKs. I'm sorry that makes you think I'm racist or intolerant, but like I said, that is your problem. The Muslims that I know who were right there with me getting shot at would have zero issues with these targets, because they would understand that those targets are depicting the bad guys, not very Muslim man ever born. I'll never understand folks that will go out of their way to get offended.3 points

I know that this is going to sound harsh, but the guy in question is not so naive to expect that he would get out and have an awesome job waiting for him. He only had a few years left until retirement and he got out for some reason. Perhaps the reasons made sense, such as wanting to spend more time at home or do something not so dangerous, but Dev group is an all volunteer unit. Leaving that unit doesn't mean the end of your career in the Navy or even the SEAL community. Getting out was a choice he made for himself and that choice comes with risks and consequences that he owns. His situation is not unique, just the guy he got to kill. I'm just making an assumption here, but I'd figure a guy like that who'd spent that much time in Dev group would have acquired enough clout to work himself into an instructor gig somewhere in the SEAL pipeline if he needed a break. That would have gotten him off the line for the remainder of his career and netted him his retirement benefits which include pay and family medical for life through Tricare. Beside that, due to his former job he is qualified for a whole boatload of jobs which pay very well and don't involve carrying a weapon. I don't think he's whining about it or anything, I think it is just the perspective that the author is trying to wrap the story around, but he seriously needs to get with his SEAL contacts in the civilian sector and he'll have a job in a matter of weeks. I do agree with the stuff regarding initiatives with companies to hire guys with such skill sets. I don't think many US companies realize the potential value of a person who has had a successful special ops career, and many of the military transitional programs focus on entry level employment, not professional level. Essentially folks like this have already been vetted in terms of being loyal, ethical, moral, dedicated and hard working. They've endured several gates which few make passage and many are weeded out. If employers were aware of that stuff I'd think they'd competing to head hunt these guys.3 points

Trust works both ways. If you don't trust ME with firearms, why should I trust YOU! In fact, usually those who try to disarm me have just proven to me that they are not worthy of my trust in any matter. Troops on parade are no threat to the POTUS. They never even get within a hundred yards of him. And one man trying to load and fire a rifle would be jumped on by everyone else before he could fire a shot, much less take time to aim at a target 100 yards away. The Secret Service are the only armed folks that take an oath to defend the President. Military take an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Perhaps this explains why our leaders are so afraid of armed soldiers.3 points

Frankly I am truly fed up with the whole lot of them. Anything they don’t like they turn it into some type of anti-Muslim crap. Can be anything, even Lego has been attacked (for the Jabba the Hutt hideout play set. It was claimed that it looked like one of their Holy sites or something of that nature. And if that gun shop caves in, to the pressure then I sure as He** would not give them any of my business. And if I want to shoot at a zombie that is wearing a turban I will.. **A Michigan gun store will stop selling targets that depict a skeleton holding an AK-47 and wearing a turban after a Muslim civil liberties group voiced concern that the target may cause gun owners to have a negative view of all Muslims.** Oops should have read the post closer, they have already caved in. Well from what my buddy tells me they should rename Michigan to “Michiganistan†anyway. And before anyone here starts to say I need to be tolerant of other peoples beliefs, well I am. Don’t get me wrong I believe in live and let live… But when you have a group of people that wants to change every thing to fit their way of life, or it offends them well that’s when I draw a line on the pavement. And I have a list of things that I am going to do, and I really don’t care what the Muslims say. 1.If I want to place a manger scene in my front yard during Christmas time they are going to have to deal with it. 2.If I want to drink beer on my front porch, they are going to have to deal with it. 3.It I want to shoot at a zombie with a turban on it’s head they are going to have to deal with it. 4.If I want to speak my mind they are going to have to deal with it.. Yea, folks we can all live together just fine, but don’t let yourself get run over by a bunch of politically correct crap.. (RANT MODE OFF) -HPH3 points

Hell, they use live targets, and we catch hell over a paper one!3 points

The Muslim will preach tolerance toward them, they will not show it to anyone. It is their plan to get the American people to be trained to have tolerance, that way we dont question what they are doing.3 points
-
It's the actions of Muslim countries, communities and individuals that causes one to form negative opinions of them. Not a target.3 points

When there cease to be Muslims that consider it honorable to kills anyone without their beliefs, then we can change the targets. Goodness, the ridiculousness goes on and on!3 points

There is no duty to notify. If he has “a few†years on the job, he shouldn’t really need to go check that. Having been a Police Officer I will notify. I will do it because I respect them, I want a safe stop for everyone involved, I want them on our side, and the pavement around here gets scalding hot during the summer months.3 points

Could someone smarter than me please explain personal space as described by the law with emphasis on defense and fear for ones safety? Reason being, I work with the public in retail sales. More than once I have had people who do not understand personal space. The majority of the time I can just take a step or two back and all is well. Today, a man comes in, walks up to me and starts talking. Never stops closing in so I casually back away a step and converse with him. He takes a step toward me and I take a step back. He's closing less than 10 inches away from me. That crap makes me nervous. We're damn near dancing the tango. After four times I just flat out tell him "Look fella, we're standing in a 20ft wide, 30ft long driveway. Any reason you keep moving toward me repeatedly?". He was a little miffed. Asked me what the hell my problem was and I told him, "My problem is another grown man trying to stand closer to me than my own wife." I didn't have what he needed anyway so I sent him on his way. Call me a coward or a pussy or what have you but a stranger, in a wide open area, trying to get closer than a couple of feet from me makes me nervous. I understand that don't fly everywhere. I was at the gunshow this weekend and it was elbow to elbow. BUT, in an open area where I take a step away, then you step forward and I step back again only to have you come closer AGAIN, that's a problem with me. Sad part is what would have happened had he stepped forward again after I said something about it. Getting into an altercation is the last thing i need or want. Two words the world does not know. "Common Courtesy" The world is certainly common, but somewhere we lost the courtesy of a gentleman.2 points

I didn't think that you did, but the linked article was worded to make it sound as if they had "uncovered" the top secret list. When in fact the EFF had sued under the freedom of information act to get the full list released last year. It was all over the news if you knew where to look.(three pages back in the science/technology section of your local newspaper sometime last summer) "While the use of drones in the U.S. is little known" " FULL LIST REVEALED HERE" In the engineering school here on campus there were posters plastered every 60 feet or so for the majority of last semester trying to entice engineering students to join the computer science students in an autonomous flying vehicle(drone) competition. The only reason many more universities aren't on that list is because they test fly their "drones" indoors. I generally just get tired of the news media of trying to make the American people scared of everything because fear works for increasing ratings. There are many great uses for drones(border patrol, forrest fire monitoring, regulatory monitoring of drilling operations) that I worry won't come fully to fruition b/c the news is too busy making the public scared to death of all of them.2 points

Not all people who call themselves Christians are Christians. And American Muslims may not have strapped explosives to their backs but they have certainly loaded bombs into cars, tried to blow-up bridges, spread their hate, and even tried to excape American authorities by moving to Yemen so they can direct others to do their dirty work.2 points

Most shooters are such noobs that when they leave a target, I am happy to use it --- usually the middle is still there and their shotgun patter off the center does not bother me :)2 points

I keep my carry permit under my driver license and when the officer asks for my license I give the license and carry permit to him. I also turn on the inside lights and roll both windows down as I am pulling over. I have been stopped twice and both times the officers stated they appreciated the way I reacted. I didn't get a ticket in either case and the second time the officer asked what kind of gun I carried. We had a short glock chat, bid each other a good day and went our separate ways. Your mileage my vary but this approach seems to work for me.2 points

I had a FTF with a business owner that has a gun buster sign on the door. First it started with him having to meet me outside his restaurant and me buying him lunch at another restaurant within walking distance of his. He seemed a little thrown off that I would even offer that. During our conversation he pulled out a business card that was handed to one of his door guys. The card was an IOU for $20.00 redeemable when this person is legally able to carry in his resturant. It said " I was intending on spending money at your business but you do not allow legal gun carry. This is an IOU for $20 redeemable as soon as the gun buster sign comes down and I can legally carry in your business." It also left contact info for that person. I have never seen this before and apparently it got his attention. I think i might make up some of these cards. He said he contacted me because of an email I sent him letting him know that I would answer any questions he has about why I will not spend any money at his restaurant. Also during that discussion I found out that he has never even held a firearm, and knew a buisness owner that was killed by a robber with a gun. It was a long lunch that seemed very productive. He is meeting me at the range next Friday. He said he is rethinking the gun buster, especially after I asked him to point out where my gun was and he could not. I told him that most people are not OC'ing, they want it to go unnoticed. I will update after we meetup next week.1 point

There is nothing anti-Islamic about having a target with a cloth on his head. Turbans aren't even uniquely Muslim. There is nothing dictating the wear of turbans in Islam any way. It's just that Muhammed wore one all the time because he was an Arab, and that's what Arabs wore. Same with sandals and stuff. Muslims tend to want to emulate things that Muhammed did, so turban wear is common in some Muslim countries, but most do not wear turbans. You're more likely to see one wearing a kufiya or shemagh type deal in most of the western Islamic countries. But anyway, the point is having someone dressed as a Muslim or Arab is not racist or whatever. We are at war with Muslim extremists, so they're the big bad enemy. No, not all Muslims are extremists, but damn near all extremists are Muslim. The problem is with drawing similarity between Christain extremists and Muslim extremists is that terrorist actions carried out by Christian extremists are not condoned in the mainstream. Christian mainstream rejects acts of violence, such as the abortion clinic bombings. Islamic mainstream does not, at least not in the Muslim world. American Muslims (at least the ones I know) also reject extremism, but that doesn't change what all their brethren outside the US believe, and that is why we have the situation we do. Unfortunately American Muslims that embrace the freedoms and our way of life have to deal with that negative image, but that is life. They may take offense to targets that have Muslims on them, but those are the types if folks we are at war with whether we like to admit it or not. 100% of the folks that American troops have been killing and capturing for the past decade have been Muslim. There's no way around it. Maybe when Mormons declare war on the US and detonate some Schwinn borne IEDs all around DC then we'll have targets with well dressed white folks wearing bicycle helmets. Until then, expect dudes dressed in jihad action gear. If that offends some folks I 100% support their right to be offended.1 point

This one is even scarier: "Congressman Hank Johnson (D-GA) allegedly expressed a fear during a hearing on March 25, 2010 that the island of Guam could capsize if too many military personnel were stationed there. A search for the YouTube video shows the exchange with Admiral Robert Willard in which Rep. Johnson expressed his fear. "1 point

I've gotten to the point where it seems like I skip through most of the 1500 songs on my phone due to overexposure / just having heard them too much. Due to that, I've been actively seeking out new music to scratch my itchy ears. I remembered hearing a song called "Brother" by a band called "Murder by Death" years ago on satellite radio and downloaded some of their stuff. Despite the name, they're not a metal band...I really have a hard time explaining what they are, since they seem to move from one style to another pretty regularly, but seem to be mostly rock / folk / roots with others thrown in. Also, they have a cellist, which is fairly unique for a four-piece act. Anyways, if anybody else is looking for something new, here's some songs to check out (all safe links to YouTube, I just used tinyurl.com to keep this from being a monster of a post): http://tinyurl.com/agxsjmk This is the song "Brother" ref'd above. Good song, some lyrics that may touch home for those with wayward family members, and lots of fun. The most accessible of their songs that I've heard to date. http://tinyurl.com/b8r9ven "Rumbrave". I don't pay much attention to lyrics, but I'm pretty sure there's something in there about killing the undead (and the living, apparently - the lyrics tend to be dark). http://tinyurl.com/agvfx9a This is "I'm Comin' Home" (I think...youtubers tend to be fairly flexible with how they title their vidoes). I like it. Did I mention their work tends to be dark in nature? http://tinyurl.com/cmhz54d And a link to "As Long As There is Whiskey in the World", which is a folky / Irish drinking song in nature. http://tinyurl.com/cme7dmf "Until Morale Improves"...not one of my favorites, but they do mention buckshot, so appropriate. http://tinyurl.com/asrfhqx "Steal Away". Catchy and short. http://tinyurl.com/bjlh94a "White Noise". Dark and heavy, moreso than I would think a 4-piece could pull off before I heard it, but it's a thumper of a song. http://tinyurl.com/av3vvuj "Sometimes You Walk the Line" is a stripped-down rock song. Best played at high volumes, I've found. I like this one a lot. http://tinyurl.com/as9kruv "Straight at the Sun" is old-school mid-60s surf rock with a modern twist. This is my current earworm - in my head all the time, rent-free. http://tinyurl.com/chgk3up "Foxglove". Neat arrangement, and it's somewhat positive-ish for these guys. Anyways, I figured I'd share these. Enjoy or ignore at your leisure.1 point

I like my squirrel cooked with dumplings. The following recipe is killer and "those" folks who swear they don't like skwerls, will never know what hit them when they eat this stuff. You can sit back and snicker when it's all said and done! And have a "cold one" on me! 2-4 Squirrels (dead) and cleaned very well to insure all hair is cleaned away. 1 stalk of celery thinly sliced 2 carrots thinly sliced 1 can Cream of Celery soup 1 can of Cream of Chicken soup 1 can of Chicken Broth Water 10-12 cups (enough to completely cover squirrels. adjust as needed) 1 table spoon ground sage 2 packs of frozen dumplings (you can also make your own or use canned biscuits) Salt and Pepper to taste 1. Place chicken broth, squirrels, water and sage into a 4 quart or larger pot. Bring to a boil, lower heat to medium/low cover and allow to simmer for about 45 minute to an hour or until the squirrels are tender. 2. When squirrels are tender, remove squirrels and allow to cool. Save contents of pot. 3. While the squirrels are cooling, add diced celery, carrots and both cans of soup to the pot. Allow to gently simmer uncovered. 4. When the squirrels are cool enough to handle, pull all meat from the bones. Return the meat to the pot and chunk the bones and shot into the trask can, unless you collect weird stuff of course.. 5. Bring contents of pot to a boil. 6. Using homemade dumplings (my preference, good recipes on the web) Canned Biscuits or Frozen Dumplings, Drop dumplings into boiling broth and cook until done. If using canned biscuits, pinch off bits of biscuits and drop into broth. Homemade dumplings can be rolled out very thin, cut into strips and dropped into the broth, or dropped by the spoonfull. When all dumplings are in the pot, reduce heat to medium and cook for about 15 mins, stirring occasionaly to avoid stick. Serve, salt and pepper to taste. This is one of my favorite "Deer camp" recipes cooked over an open fire. It is also great cooked at home in a civilized kitchen! Ya'll please enjoy! Dave S1 point
