Good for them. It's a frigging open air monument, no government services needed. Not mentioned in story, but they actually had guards on duty to keep visitors away, so it was manned by federal employees anyway. One congressman just saw on news said this had to be a decision directly from White House. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/oct/1/elderly-veterans-force-entry-wwii-memorial-defianc/ http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/world-war-ii-veterans-cross-memorial-barricades-shutdown/story?id=20432719 - OS3 points

Found a frayed or mouse chewed spot on an electrical cord to my stereo receiver on night. Thought this is no big deal. I'll just cut the end off and put on a new plug rather than splice the cord. So I went and got a plug end, screwdriver, knife to trime the line ends, and a pair of wire cutters to cut the old plug off. Now rather than move everything from the cabinet I had it sitting on, I decided to sit on the floor and do it there. Got my tools in line, picked up the cord, and calmly cut it, ready to put the plug on. Melted the ends off the wire cutters, fried my receiver, and knocked my ass across the floor. I forgot to unplug it. :stunned: :squint: :rofl:3 points

No. If you want to act stupid on a bike in front of me on the street, thats fine, ill show you how much i appreciate it with my big truck. This is the same thing as back a few months ago the people were walking out onto the interstate to protest. Do it in front of me on the street and I WILL RUN YOU OVER without a second thought.3 points

So we got together en masse today and our friend got a real kick out of it. He's been cheerful all day. So mission accomplished. Plenty of queball jokes to go around. We've also decided to call ourselves legion and only speak as a collective. "We would be happy to assist you."3 points

Closing this one down. We'll start PM'ing pricing this afternoon. If you want to do something in the meantime, you can go register for an account over on CMT's site. Once we get everyone registered, we'll switch everyone to a TGO group from which you'll be able to pay for and fulfill your order for your choice of lowers, uppers and BCGs.3 points

Just got our health insurance packet today for 2014. Our max out of pocket went up 18% and our weekly contribution went up 30% and they eleminated our HRA (Health Care Rembursment Account- free money we get for doing preventative visits). We are planning on having a baby next year we will max out our Out Of Pocket so we do have to take that into account. I did the math and we are going to see an increase of $3,300 for the year. I can not believe that my insurance is going to increase almost $300 a month. I went to the joke of a website for ACA and we do not qualify at all, we are eliminated for multiple reasons. I fudged some numbers on the site just to see what some of the policies look like. I found one that had similar benifits as ours and it is only $400 a month. I think it is INSANE that if we did not work as hard as we did to get where we are I could take home over $500 more a month through ACA. I should not have to pay more for insurance than people that get ACA for the same coverage. ACA should be bare minimum insurance kind of like all the "State required" car insurance. I think I will end here, I am so pissed right now I might send my BP through the roof and I now can't afford to go to the hospital.2 points

Your allegiance should be to whatever country you have decided to live in or were born into and decided to stay. Chances are, if your allegiance is elsewhere, you are up to no good. Freedom came and is still coming at a price so anyone that takes advantage of this countries freedoms and opportunities damn sure ought to love her. I think we're seeing the fruits of poor seeds being sown in our society today and they aren't tought how many lives have been given to make this country as great as she is and how to be respectful of that. This is all of course, my very own opinion and you know what they say about those huh.2 points

Probably, but that is a constant. Not on hookers and blow though. The Secret Service has shown they don't follow through on payment with prostitutes. Pretty stingy when you consider the per diem rates they're pulling down.2 points

Carry permits have nothing whatsoever to do with the federal government, so I doubt they meant that even as dumb as they are on the subject of firearm law. I don't think most of ATF is funded by yearly discretionary spending, but could be wrong. But for sure, if Obama or his minions think of it and can legally do it, I know they'd love to shut down the 4473 process. Just like he made the sequester hurt as much as he could by selective funding. edit: here's a quote from NSSF: "HOW GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN WOULD AFFECT NICS AND ATF . . . In the event of a government shutdown on Tuesday, the FBI's NICS Section would remain fully operational and maintain normal business hours. However, ATF's Office of Enforcement Programs and Services (EPS) would effectively be shut down, operating with minimal staff." Hope they're right. - OS2 points

Just watched this again and now I'm all worked up. One of the things that will get me spitting angry is a group of people picking on the perceived weak. They do it because they can. Mobs need to suffer the great equalizer of standard capacity magazines, then lets see how strong they are.2 points

They original surrounded his vehicle and attempted to pull him out. That's why he ran them over. When 200 people are about to have their way with you, there is nothing AT ALL the victim can do wrong. He could have killed every last one of those wannabe biker douches and still been in the right. IMO, he should have been taking them out once he got back up to highway speed, and stayed in the highway until the cops showed up. If a gang surrounds me, on bikes otherwise, and make hostile intentions known I am indeed in fear for my life. Whatever their beef was, I'd make sure to them it wasn't worth it to f*** with me.2 points

I watched all the first video and part of the second, what it boils down to is LEOs being asked to enforce a stores policy or request again. If the business wanted them to leave they should have just told them to leave, if for whatever reason the business representative did not want to "confront" them and chose to call the police, the officers could have simply told the patrons to leave. There was no reason to detain them or check IDs unless they were suspected of some crime, which I did not hear or see mentioned.2 points

When you are tightening down the hot wire that came loose on the back of your dryer, make sure to unplug the cord from the wall. There's a but of voltage running through them wires, and it hurts.1 point

The guy who got run over was an accomplice to an attack on a defenseless two year old. I hope he dies a horrible and painful death. He deserves a combination of bone/ass cancer. As for his family, they need to STFU. He deserved it. The family running their mouth about their criminal in a coma deserve the same fate for ignoring the terror he and his hoodlum friends put this young family through.1 point

Ok...I was attempting to adjust my attic stairs and decided to try to hold the bar while under tension and have my dad undo the bolt. I figured I would ease it up...dad told me he thoughr this was a bad idea..he undid the bolt, it sheared the pin and the bar flew out of my hands and hit me strait above the eye. A stitch-worthy cut! If it had been half inch lower I would have gotten my eye. Moral of the story: sometimes your dad knows what he is talking about. sent barefoot from the hills of Tennessee1 point

I'm a rider and I can't imagine this happening. I too would've mashed a few bikes and gotten the hell outa dodge. Heading into the city was stupid, but getting cornered and attacked like that... it would've been ugly. This illustrates a couple points... 1) Mob mentality takes over real fast, and 2) When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.1 point

I'm not surprised. In a situation like he was in he had three options: fight, flight or submit. When in that situation instincts take over your decision making, especially if you haven't been in such life threatening situations before. Obviously, fight was not an option due to being outnumbered, so he originally fled when first attacked. The reason he didnt use his vehicle as a weapon while in the road is because his victim mentality reasoned not to further provoke his attackers and just get away. Once he was cornered he probably felt as if he couldn't get away and chose to submit. He got beat badly for it, and luckily his wife and kid, who were terrorized did not get beaten as well. There are few alpha personalities out there who would have taken a more aggressive stance toward this assault. I have a "meet violence with superior violence mentality" as I believe it is a more effective deterrent than running or submitting. The reason I believe this is because the majority of criminals are really cowards at heart, and will respond to superior violence by backing down. Whatever it is they want isn't worth death or great bodily injury, however, I'm more than willing to kill someone or greatly injure them in order to protect myself or my family. Conversely, running away only emboldens your attacker to be more aggressive, in the same way running away from a dog will embolden it to attack you, but when you turn and face it the dog will stay at a safe distance. Submitting can either embolden or dissuade an attacker. Really weak people will react to total submission of another with greater violence because it is their opportunity to do something they normally don't get to do; wield their power over another human being. It could also dissuade a person who has no drive to simply power over another, such as robbers who just want money. At any rate, choosing to submit puts all the power in your attacker's hands, and I'm not willing to give them the power of choosing my fate or the fate of my family and hoping I come out okay. Being predisposed to commit limitless violence in defense of yourself puts you in a different category than the vast majority of your fellow Americans. Unfortunately, the odds are against these cowards ever coming face to face with people who won't tolerate this.1 point

There are more roads than just the interstate. I deal with tailgaters when I'm in a mile long line of traffic down a two lane road. Tailgaters are the worse douchebags on the road. It has nothing to do with being in the proper lane.1 point

With more than 2 1/2 million miles behind me (and more to come) driving all 48 plus Canada and a little bit of Mexico all I can really say is, Welcome to the club. I learned a long time ago that driving is kinda' like sex: Pretty much everyone who's ever tried it thinks they're really good at it when the fact remains that most don't know what the hell they're doing. Because of this they rely upon those of us who do know what we're doing to get them through to a successful conclusion. I heard a joke years ago in which, after coitus, a woman had told a man, "You've got to be the worst lay in the world!" To which the man responded, "No, that would be too much of a coincidence..." That joke really became funny after I witnessed an accident involving a big truck and a passenger car and stopped to help. At one point, the driver of the car told the trucker (with a trooper present) "You've got to be the worst trucker on the interstate!" I swear the trucker replied, "No Sir, that would be too much of a coincidence!" Sorry for your woes, but welcome to the club. It gets worse every year and all we can do is try to get a little better for the sake of those who don't care enough about what they're doing to want to do it well. :shake:1 point

saw this earlier today. To me, the bikers were up to no good. If we take it at face value (presuming the driver didn't antagonize off camera) .. you're suddenly surrounded by a sea of guys on bikes, they're swarming around you and hitting their brakes and you've got your family in the car... Then they box you in and start approaching the vehicle?? Yeah, i'm gonna mow through repeatedly until I drive into the police station.1 point

From the first "dude" that cut him (the RR driver) off and brake-checked him (no way that RR could've stopped in the same time as a bike), I would have certainly been in fear of serious bodiy injury for my family - that large of a group, all acting in concert, already having shown a disdain for the law. By myself - and especially with my family, I absolutely would try everything I could to avoid any contact - whether they are threatening me or not - I will avoid, evade, and/or escape if possible. With that said, once they start trying to invade my family's safe space, the options get a lot smaller.1 point

If the government gets shut down, and that's a big if, it would only be for a couple of days. The republicans will cave on this and Obama will get everything he wants just as he has for his whole presidency. Just look at how the republican leadership in the senate has talked on the news shows all weekend. They seem to think that when obamacare gets implemented, the democrats will take the hit with the voters. I don't agree, but that's what they think. When obamacare fails, the republicans will get the blame as they always do.1 point
