I really have a hard time understanding why anyone would risk their life to go there.9 points

Yep I did it, been working on this for a few weeks. Picked up the pan and drippers from ebay. Coolant is cheap wally world fabric softener. Ammo cans stacked so the ramp is just clear of the coolant, large can to catch the over flow of coolant. I am using an electric stove top element and mapp torch to get things going and to keep the drippers flowing. The drippers will cool a bit and the torch keeps them warm. I made 5 lbs in about 30 mins, not bad for 3rd try. Size is 7 to 9 shot, some 11.3 points

Well it's going to be blazing hot this weekend so might as well shoot some cardboard! 10:30 start time so get there around 9:30 or so to help out a bit and get registered. So come on out and get your shoot on. Probably have 5 to 6 stages this time with a round count of about 100 or so. Walden Ridge Shooting Range 1862 16th Model Rd Manchester,Tn 37355 Members $10 Nonmember $15 This is an IDPA event so concealment is needed. New shooters (to the sport) do not apply on concealment. You'll need 3 magazines (2 will work), and some good holsters. Quote Edit2 points

It has been about 25 years since I ceased to be a dependent, and I still can't go into a store like Wal-Mart or Target without instinctively wanting to pull out my wallet and show my ID to someone at the front door. Stupid AAFES . . . . I also can't go to a movie without hearing that announcer voice in my head saying "Now sit back, relax, and enjoy your AAFES feature presentation."2 points

These are all made from the same blank. Amazing how different you can make the same blade look. Same size....optical illusion I guess with the bottom one being closest to the camera. All are 1095 carbon steel and the blade blank started the same. The OAL is 10' and blade length is 5". The one with the "rock" pattern is a bit heavier in that it's made from 3/16" thick steel. The other two are made from 5/32" thick steel. The IPE handled one with the OD Green and black G10 accents has the handle bobbed in the back a bit to make the look slightly different. They all have thumb jimping and lanyard hoe. From the top the rock pattern has Orange Agate handles with white liners and white and black accents. The middle one has Burmese Blackwood handles red G10 liners and red and white accents. The last one has IPE handles with OD G10 liners and black accents. I did bob the back of the handle a bit to give it a different look. I forgot to add the red/white accented blade had copper/brass and SS mosaic pins...the green and black accented one has SS mosaic pins and the Orange Agate handled one has brass pins.1 point

Rep. Mike Rogers' amendment was included in the House version of the NDAA which passed today. If the Senate passes it (and they probably will) then I think the Army has to release the surplus 1911s to the CMP. http://www.personaldefenseworld.com/2017/07/cmp-1911-pistols/1 point

I finally got my 45ACP suppressor out of jail. In anticipation of this eventuality, I had the 5" barrel on my Quarter Ten Circle 9mm AR turned .578x28 so I could directly thread the can on without an adapter. The work performed by Law Enforcement Sales was flawless and the function is wonderful. I highly recommend this courteous and professional business.1 point

Remember me saying "YOU CAN"T FIX STUPID" People that go there are defining that saying and explaining the statement with action! With that said I sincerely hope they keep the Dennis Rodman forever.........1 point

Take a look at the highlighted area in the pic. There is a lug on the barrel that locks under the spring loaded piece that moves when you turn the break down lever. Make sure the spring loaded piece is moving. If not, you may be forcing it back because the spring is not moving it or at least not enough. Does the breakdown lever turn really easy? They cleaning all those moving parts. Otherwise the lug could be catching, but usually I have found that the lug keeps it from locking closed more than holds it closed if there is an issue.1 point

Just my opinion but it sounds like the machine work is a little off plum in the break open area and it might take more than just a little polishing or buffing to make it work. There is a product called Rocket Fuel that is designed to make any tight actions on any thing work smoother. I use to use it on fishing reels back years ago and it sure made them cast a 100% easier. Might want to get some of it and give it a try. https://www.fishntech.com/tg_rocket_fuel.html1 point

True story: I knew a high school graduate that swore that he didn't know anything about The Revolutionary War. When I asked him what he thought the 4th of July celebrated he said, "Fireworks?"1 point

Honestly, I think we have more to worry about with a naturally occurring event such as earthquake, volcano, meteor etc taking us down a peg. We hacked into Iran's nuclear reactors with stuxnet, and only managed to, according to some sources, destroy 1/5th of their reactors. And that was with at least one superpower, some say more, trying to dismantle their nuke program. And some of you feel a kid in his basement can take the US grid down? No, the most likely think to do that is possibly a solar flare or an airburst from a large meteor, and that is a rare occurrence.1 point

Yes, read the whole thing, and for some, it reads well. But AAFES has had bigger problems for some time than what he mentions here. In many parts, overseas mainly, they are the only game in town, but still have a hard time selling. The problem is not the customer base, it is their pricing. They will price match, but only on identical items and the brands seem, at least to me, to be higher end mostly instead of trying to have what lower enlisted can afford. Then, and I don't know if this is an agreement with the town, but they price according to off post store averages. Like fuel, they can easily beat off post due to local taxes and prices, but don't. I live off post, as practically all retirees do, so the pickup at the store feature will only help those close by and only if prices come down to make it worth it. Here, they have added more vendors to the food court, which may get more people in, but they need to seriously look at their inventory and get products that they can compete with, and price accordingly. They off and on do the ID card thing, if they allow on-post workers (contractors) without a military ID to shop there they may increase their sales. As to the cost controls, don't know much about them, but most places can cut some costs without effecting customer service. As to the website, they need to advertise more, I can't tell you the last time I even thought of looking there for anything. I do hope they can do what they hope to do, but it will be a long process.1 point

It is not about the kid sometimes, it is the tools. If a xbox playing, pizza eating, bored kid stumbled on the right tool kit and applied it, all hell could break loose. I know for a fact that lots of "virus" code begins as white hat vulnerability testing that gets stolen and slightly reworked. So it is not far fetched. It does not matter who does it if it gets done. Also, it could be exploiting some previously undiscovered weakness. What if they skewed the power rating reported to allow units to burn out without being shut down. Or attacked a flaw in a chip used on the control boards to slam the generators into reverse....all at once. Obviously, I am not an expert on these systems, but a little study would go a long way. Burn out enough stuff and the outage becomes "as long as it takes to replace all the parts".1 point

The "Old, decrepit grid" problem is a "Red Herring"... The transmission lines are in good shape that intertie between utilities and with local utilities that distribute power to you, the consumer... Some of them are, indeed, "old" but the towers are very well built and maintained... I worked for a time on this stuff... The lattice line towers are old designs, but are quite serviceable... About the only thing that goes bad on them is the insulators, that are replaced as needed... The company i worked for measured their line outage time in minutes/year, and ive sat in several award dinners where that time was less than 10 minutes/ year... The breakers, transformers, and switchgear; as well as the control systems are maintained scrupulously... That's why your lights are hardly ever off... If the lights are off; nine times out of ten, it's the local utilities problem... That is generally due to a bad storm, an accident that knocks a pole down, or lightnin strike on a transformer... It's more obfuscation and hopeful pandering for dollars to pass out to the brothrs n sister crooks... When you pay your utility bill, you are, in fact, payin for infrastructure upgrades... leroy... The "anti-bureaucrat" and "lie detector" curmudgeon...1 point

I'm calling BS on the power gird thing... This is nothin but more windbaggery and a hopeful attempt to make the populus more afraid of a "nameless, faceless, them" by a jackass that is on the public dole in the bureaucracy... The two most likely candidates for this sort of thing are China and Russia... They are trading partners... If we have this kind of problem, how long do ya think it would take even the yahoos peddlin this baloney to find the out....? My guess is about 30 minutes on a slow day.... I can buy the idea that north korea, iran, and some of the middle east yahoos might want ta do this... If they could have, the would have...? What keeps em frrom doin it...? Fear of retaliation and Providence... The "power grid" thing is just like "the astroid hittin the earth thing"... More hopeful attempts to conjure up a dooms day scenerio to make you, the citizen, more compliant, fearful, and ever dependent upon the superior intellect of the "washington insider bureaucratic class"... leroy the "anti BS curmudgeon" and foe of the bureaucracy...1 point

I usually buy powder and primers locally so I don't have to pay hazmet fees. For bullets, I've purchased directly from Zero Bullets or Berrys MFG. depending on my needs. Zero has no shippiong if purchasing 1000 rounds. Berry has a $50 minimum for free shipping. All the brass that I have, I picked up at the range. I have purchased components and other supplies from Midway or Cabelas. With Cabelas, I wait for free shipping.1 point
