  1. Last week I was poking around looking for a new .300 BLK upper for my SBR and noticed that Noveske had a new hat in their catalog. Doing the reasonable thing, I ordered one. It shipped out on January 2nd and was packed by the man himself. Your AR15 may have an inflated value right now, but money couldn't buy this hat from me. I'm man enough to admit I teared up a little when I saw his signature on the packing slip. MFNJN... Mother F'n John Noveske. Rest In Peace, John!!! :(

  2. Not gonna lie... the receipt is in the safe.  The hat, well... I'm going to wear it til it falls apart.  I think that's the best way to honor a guy like that.  :)

  3. This "administration" should have more respect for their predecessors.   From George Washington's address to the second session of Congress: "Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty, teeth and keystone under independence. The church, the plow, the prairie wagon and citizens' firearms are indelibly related. From the hour the pilgrims landed to the present day, events, occurrences and tendencies prove that, to ensure peace, security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable. Every corner of this land knows firearms, and more than 99 and 99/100 percent of them by their silence indicate that they are in safe and sane hands. The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil influence. They deserve a place of honor with all that's good. When firearms go, all goes. We need them every hour."

  4. I look at the profit people are making off of selling their personal ARs and such the same way I do the winnings most people get from the lottery.  Here today, gone tomorrow... and gone very quickly.   There's no way I am selling any of what I own just to make a quick buck, especially given that there's no guarantee I would ever be able to replace it.

  5. Saw this from TN state rep Jeremy Faison today: "I am proud to have introduced legislation today, along with Sen. Frank Niceley, that no state funds or resources will be expended to confiscate firearms should the federal government order such confiscation or limitation. I agree that it is past time for the state governments to reaffirm their parental responsibilities envisioned by our founding fathers over an out of control federal government."   I cant link to a bill yet - GA website doesn't have any house bills posted yet, and the Senate version isn't up either.

  8. A Republican, in a wheelchair, entered a restaurant one afternoon and asked the waitress for a cup of coffee. The Republican looked across the restaurant and asked, "Is that Jesus sitting over there?" The waitress nodded "yes," so the Republican requested that she give Jesus a cup of coffee, on him. The next patron to come in was a Libertarian, with a hunched back. He shuffled over to a booth, painfully sat down, and asked the waitress for a cup of hot tea. He also glanced across the restaurant and asked, "Is that Jesus, over there?" The waitress nodded, so the Libertarian asked her to give Jesus a cup of hot tea, "My treat." The third patron to come into the restaurant was a Democrat on crutches. He hobbled over to a booth, sat down and hollered, "Hey there honey! How's about getting me a cold mug of Miller Light?" He too looked across the restaurant and asked, "Isn't that God's boy over there?" The waitress nodded, so the Democrat directed her to give Jesus a cold beer. "On my bill," he said loudly. As Jesus got up to leave, he passed by the Republican, touched him and said, "For your kindness, you are healed." The Republican felt the strength come back into his legs, got up, and danced a jig out the door. Jesus passed by the Libertarian, touched him and said, "For your kindness, you are healed." The Libertarian felt his back straightening up and he raised his hands, praised the Lord, and did a series of back flips out the door. Then, Jesus walked towards the Democrat, just smiling. The Democrat jumped up without his crutches and yelled, "Don't touch me .... I'm on disability!!"

  9. Random thoughts running through my head...     1.)  Disarming the populace was part of bringing democracy to Iraq.   2.)  You don't get to be a general, let alone Commander, International Security Assistance Force and Commander, U.S. Forces Afghanistan without being part of the political machine.  Granted, Gen. McChrystal dicked himself good with his comments about Obama while in theater, but this strikes me as him trying to make new friends by going back and licking the boots of those who slapped him down.   3.)  This makes me wonder about the notion that the military would take the side of the people if it was asked to turn against them as part of a mass confiscation of firearms.  I'm guessing the military would possibly fragment as a result, but that in turn makes me wonder how long that fragmentation would be allowed to occur before soldiers were executed by other soldiers for treason.       As Larry Vickers put it over on M4Carbine.net earlier today...

  10. I had a thought and I'm floating this out there as just something to chew on.  I'm not advocating any sort of unrest, so let's just get that clear from the start.   BUT... Have you ever seen someone who was absolutely right about something get argued with to the point that they could no longer gracefully, tactfully articulate their point on a matter and seen them shut down the talking, rational side of their brain.  Have you seen them allow the lizard brain to take over and then they start throwing punches?   I have.  I've seen people get so flustered, so frustrated, so galled by the audacity of the moron arguing with them that they finally just clammed up and threw a massive haymaker and put the moron on their ass.   Frankly, I'm worried that sooner or later the part of society who still believes in the Constitution is going to clam up and stop trying to argue.  And when that happens, God help us for what might be next.   :meh:

  18. Sooner or later someone with a HCP is going to get murdered on their way to or from the office, and their family members are going to sue the living shit out of the employer for prohibiting the deceased from being able to have their legally possessed handgun in the car at the time.  When that happens, I hope the employer is bent over and their bank account is reamed out properly by the court system.   That is the only way this is going to change.  Until it does, we're all pissing in the wind with our hopes and dreams because TN's legislature isn't going to side with anyone other than the big tax payers.  i.e. Corporations.

  19.   The would be fools not to release a carbine right now, especially if they have been building up stockpiles of them.  Imagine being the only manufacturer with all the rifles anyone would care to buy, ready to ship.  You couldn't walk into your local gun store right now without seeing Glock carbines and not much else on the wall.  It would overnight become the ubiquitous modern carbine by sheer fact of being the only one available.   You just can't buy popularity like that.

  22. Ok, I'm usually on the "where have you been" side of things like this, but this is the first I've heard of it... and maybe there's someone else out there that hasn't heard of this either.   http://us.glock.com/customer-service/recoil-spring-exchange   I called them today about my G17 and they're sending out another spring assembly within the week. I also asked about my new G26 spring which isn't included in this voluntary recall... but is not allowing the slide to go 100% forward without a little help (only sometime) and they're replacing it free of charge too. They didn't even ask for the serial number of that one... just told me that they'd include one in the box with the other. Thanks Glock!   I'm glad to see there are companies out there that still offer customer service. I usually spread the word when I find them...

The Chicago way - lean on WM and other retailers - nice little chain you got there.  Shame if something were to happen to it.  By the way, I really don't like to see you selling guns/ammo/magazines.  So, how are your taxes?  Are you EPA compliant?  Are you in compliance with OSHA regs?    Etc. etc. ad nauseum.

  29. I wonder how long before the BATF starts looking into these folks who have bought rifles only to turn around and flip them for profit.  Onesies twosies, probably not going to attract a whole lot of attention.  Someone on Gunbroker who went and cleared out their local Academy Sports & Outdoors stock of black rifles and then listed them for sale?  Yeah... that guy's probably going to get a visit.

  30. Railroad spikes don't make good blades. Neither does anything else that doesn't have high enough carbon to harden up. Old mattocks, pick heads, axes and jack hammer bits, along with axle shafts and crow bars are lower carbon, so that they are tough, but they will not get hard enough to hold a keen edge very long. Junk yard steel your best bet is old leaf springs, which are normally 5160 or 6150, though 6150 is normally big truck springs, and it is very hard to work under the hammer. Coil springs also have a good amount of carbon normally. If you plan to grind instead of forge, you'll need flat stock, and leaf spring is gonna be super thick for stock removal without forging due to it being 3/8" thick. A good source for known quality bar stock is newjerseysteelbaron.com, and 1084 is one of the better steels, especially for ameatures and beginners. I use it alot for some knives as its about $35 shipped for four feet, and its very easy to heat treat.  Do you plan to forge, or do stock removal?   Good junkyard steel for knives: High quality, worn out files Hoof rasp Leaf springs Coil springs Brick hammers for hawks   Good steel if you order: 1084 5160   These will be the easiest to work and heat treat.   Edit:   The difference in tough and hard is this. High carbon steel will get very hard and brittle when hardened by heting to non magnetic then quenching in oil or water (I can explain this later). You then must temper back to keep it from shattering to easily on an impact. Tempering removes some of the hardness. The problem with things like crowbars, rail road spikes, etc. They are low carbon. They will take impact all day, but they do not have enough carbon to harden properly to have any edge holding ability. The edge will just roll and deform, and it doesnt make much of a knife. If you wanna learn and really help yourself get started quickly, I do free blacksmithing and bladesmithing classes, and they will give you a jump start on proper forge building, steel selection, techniques, etc.

  32. supply & demand.   I am befuddled that people here who decry communism and praise capitalism are offended by someone trying to turn a profit.  Suddenly when its a gun, its price gouging?   The demand for AR is out of sight: there isnt one on a shelf in a store here and has not been in weeks.   Therefore price increases to match the demand.   Its just capitalism at work.   If you do not like the price, don't buy one.   Laugh if you must, but I am not sure public links to the auctions is appropriate (even if funny).    What is funnier.... the stupidly high price, or that some are actually selling for this much, or that this price may seem low in 2 years?

  33. This was my response to the Alexander 2nd Amendment response.  I am sure he will never see it, but I am going to state that I will not vote again for anyone who places limitations of any kind.   Mr. Alexander,   Thank you for your response.  I realize this is a common response sent to everyone who sent a similar concern, however, I would like to make clear that just protecting the 2nd amendment is not all that is at stake.  I also expect that you will not support limitations on my right to own magazines or firearms such as sporting rifles, commonly mis-termed as assault rifles.  I believe you are using semantics to try and appease your constituents without saying you won't support limitations on certain items which you can then later say you never said you wouldn't do.  I would like to hear and see you state that you will not support ANY new limitations to gun ownership outside of improved mental health assitance, which is not a gun specific issue.   As I stated in my previous correspondence, I will not vote for anyone who represents me currently that supports any limitations on my constitutional rights.  I hear often "why does anyone NEED these items".  If need were a criteria for the constitution, we would live in a much different country.     Thank you for your time.

  35.   As far as spending too much and ignoring the Constitution,  I believe that could be said of >80% of the house, and > 90% of the senate.    Perhaps if we are all still around in 2014, we can begin the process for voting a lot of these douchebags out of office.  My only hope, and it isn't much of one, is that people will start voting for the better candidate in the primaries instead of voting for the candidate who is perceived to have a better chance in the general.  It seems to me that the use of the latter strategy hasn't been working out too well the last couple of elections.   As I briefly discussed in the OP, I am tired of voting for an indivdual who sucks only slightly less than the other guy.  In those cases, both candidates will lead us down the same path of ruination, only one will do it faster than the other.  Does this mean that I will probably be voting for candidates who will lose?  Probably, but I have taken comfort in the fact that if this country is going to go down, fiscally speaking, I will be satisfied knowing that I am not voting for the very ones who are causing it.    Don't know how everyone else feels, but that is how I have felt for the last couple of years regarding this entire mess.

  38. I have a much simpler idea. Tennessee should implement some kind of system where a citizen can take a class, say an 8 hour class at a gun store for example; then get fingerprinted; have a background check; pay a fee to the state for the privilege of exercising a God-given and constitutionally protected right; and then receive a permit to carry a handgun. They should then do away with stupid "gun free zones" and let people protect themselves instead of being mandated into victimhood by their omniscient government. If we as ordinary citizens are good enough to protect ourselves and our children why aren't our teachers? Hell, some of the folks on here are no doubt either teachers or married to one.

  39. Folks, I am working on having a "multigenerational NFA trust" product. However, I will tell you that it is a much more complicated issue than just making the trust last longer. Just think how things change from one generation to the next. If you create a trust that is intended to last 100 years (for example), what would it look like? A 100 year old house (without significant changes over time) would likely not be livable. No updated electrical system, no heat and air, small closets, no updated plumbing, etc. Creating a trust that will still work 2 or 3 generations down the road is equally difficult. No way to guess what the legal landscape (taxes, gun laws, etc) will look like. Also, I have gotten numerous questions about whether a trust would protect guns from any upcoming law changes. The answer is, no one knows. Until the legislation is passed, there is absolutely NO WAY to know if a trust would fix any perceived problems. If semi-automatic weapons become subject to the NFA, then maybe an NFA trust is the way to go. But maybe they also do away with the trust option altogether. The multigenerational trust is intriguing, but not sure it would make a lot of sense for most people. Not to mention that it would be much more expensive.

  42. I hit the pawnshop for mine.  it was unfired...well...maybe one round.  it had so much cosmoline if it it wouldn't chamber a second shot...that's what the guy that pawned it told the shop.  It was a true disaster...until I cleaned it. It had all the faults.  the bolt wouldn't rattle (Kroil fixed that)  the firing pin had square corners (they cut into the primer)  Even the mag was full of cosmo.  A couple days cleaning and YouTube videos and it became very accurate.  Chinese...great gun, chrome lined barrel, cleaning kit in the butt, but no bayonet.     The second one was very early chinese...threaded barrel..blade bayonet...the russian style machining on the bolt and the receiver...and 200 bucks. it too was cosmo dirty but can't find an import mark on it.  I liked them so much I ran through 150 worth of ammo in a week.
