  1. Yeah, I've taken dog bites before; real ones, not nips. I'd take one again to avoid killing an animal that was provoked by my behavior. A good example would be a recent slaying of a dog by a Clarksville PD officer. The dog was chained up in the owners yard. The officer cut through her yard not knowing about the dog. The dog approached him and was shot dead, on a leash in the owners own yard. The dog, by all accounts was not an aggressive dog. I realize that many owners of aggressive dogs will say that, but even if this dog was aggressive the officer should have either taken the bite or ran away. Sorry, there is no excuse for some of the shootings I hear of. It boils down to trigger happy cops who do not respect the property rights of citizens.

  3. I watched her interview on Piers Morgan last night. It was painful to watch on many levels. Her speech impediment aside, she clearly isn't capable of passing a first grade vocabulary exam. She is also clearly a product of the ghetto environment. She is a perfect example of what's wrong with a large segment of society.    When ever these things are pointed out to her, she gets very upset. Due to the fact that she likely only associates with others on a similar level, she is convinced that she is perfectly normal. Piers, her attorney, those who laughed at and applauded her comments are guilty of a serious injustice by not pointing out the fact that she is completely ignorant to reality. Whoever has been in charge of raising her should be severely punished for allowing this young woman to end up like this.

  4. I think you miss the point entirely. If a dog charges me in my yard or as I'm walking down the street is one thing. To come on someone's property or provoke a situation and then shoot someone's dog is not the same.

  5. It is a crime, very nearly equivalent to shooting an officer, to shoot a police dog.   If such a high value can be placed on a police dog, which has had time and attention expended for it, why not the equivalent for a family pet, to which a family has expended time and attention?

  6. It's not enough that Zimmerman has been through more than a year and half of legal and personal hell in which he has been defamed and slandered, but acquitted on all trumped up charges.  Now, just to kiss Al Sharpton's butt, Holder is trolling for bottom feeders to rat Z out for possible race discrimination.  Alexander, Corker and Jimmie Duncan are going to get an earful from me. http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/07/16/Holder-DOJ-witch-huntZ

  7. This is going to be my last post anywhere (the blog, Facebook, or TGO) about this case.  Trayvon Martin is dead because Trayvon Martin decided to unlawfully attack George Zimmerman.  Whether GZ's assumptions were accurate, whether he is a racist, whether he followed TM after the police told him to stop, or whether GZ could have used other means to end the assault, the single fatal gunshot was in response to a proactive attack made by Trayvon Martin.  He could have run away or gotten off the phone with his girlfriend and called the police, but instead, he decided to attack GZ.   There are a lot of gun owners, including some on TGO, that need to think long and hard about this case because their words suggest they are quite willing to fire off a gunshot at the mere hint of aggressive behavior and/or take full advantage of the "stand your ground" provision of the law if given the chance.  As this case shows, one can easily find themselves sitting in the defendant's chair or dead because of they let their ego get in the way of prudent and wise decision-making.

  16.   True, but it does at least prohibit an employer from stating 'no firearms in vehicles on company property' in their employee rules, handbooks, etc.   Honestly, I think the best way to fix a whole lot of problems would be to have a state law that recognizes a person's vehicle as their private property and clearly state that the confines of said vehicle have the same protections as the confines of one's residence regardless of where said vehicle happens to be parked.  The parking space, itself, might be an employer's property but the vehicle and its contents remain my property and, unless there is some evidence a crime has been committed (which should require LEO involvement) it is none of their business what otherwise legal items I choose to keep in my own, personal vehicle.  Further, as RobertNashville said, make it clear that only LEO can compel searches of private vehicles, that even LEO must have a warrant or very strong probable cause and that an employer is committing a crime if said employer so much as insinuates that an employee will be fired if he or she doesn't 'voluntarily consent' to a search of his or her vehicle.

  21. It may be called profiling but it's really common sense.   If blue-eyed, 5'2", blond white women committed the majority of bank robberies wouldn't it be common sense for a bank to be concerned when a blue-eyed, 5'2" blond white women walked in their door?   People need to get over PC quit worrying about hurting somebody's feelings  and use common sense!

  26. If the biggest majority of a certain type of people didn't act like animals they wouldn't get a blanket assessment as such. If so many muzzies weren't backward murdering douche bags, maybe they wouldn't be judged as all bad. The same goes for everyone else. Soon many white folk are gun and Bible clinging traditionalists. So, most are viewed the same. I AM one so I'm perfectly fine with being profiled as such. Maybe if most people in the ghetto and government housing had a job, didn't lay up and have 9 kids for social welfare to support and didn't steal or sell crack, we wouldn't view them all as such. It is what it is. If the world doesn't like that, too damn bad.

  27. It's sad if that happens, especially after being found "not guilty". I don't know who will march for Zman. My feeling however, would be "groups" that are not PC in our society. I am afraid that the supporters of Zman will have several swastika tattoos and/or be dressed in bed sheets.I could be wrong, but I don't think too many good honest people are going to rally in support of Zman. It's actually sad that either side has to rally at all to bring attention to wrongdoings, or what people perceive as wrong doings. You can make up a banner or a sign and go out and rally in support of George Zimmerman. It's your right to do so. Maybe you can get a whole new gig going! DaveS I see what you did there. Nice underhanded way of attempting to color anyone who doesn't agree with you as a klan member. One small tidbit you forgot, Zimmerman ain't white, the klan don't like him either! You have spent a lot of time whining about the way the folks who disagree have supposedly treated you/ spoken to you. You don't get to play the victim anymore after that statement. You have essentially called the majority of this board neo nazis. You just classed yourself in with the race hustlers like Jackson and Sharpton in exhibiting a complete absence of credibility. You disgust me. ETA: For the first time in the years I have been on this board, I added a name to the ignore list. Congrats DaveS.

I may have started this thread in the wrong place but I did it accidently and with good intentions. It's not about Zimmerman it's about This country's survival.

  30. IF the officer's duties require him to be in a specific location, and IF, in that location, somebody's unrestrained pet dog is acting aggressively towards the officer, the dog is likely to get shot.  Any dog will protect its family.  Any dog will bite.   Put yourself in that situation.  What would you do?

  36. I went to look at a foreclosed property that was up for auction last month. A neighbor walked down to the road and inquired as to what I was doing there. I calmly informed him that I was there to look at a piece of property that was for sale. Once he saw that I was there for a legal purpose, he filled me in on all the details of the property and the neighborhood. I did not punch him in the nose or beat his head on the sidewalk. In return, he did not shoot me. We both parted on friendly terms. If Trayvon Martin had been my son, I would have taught him the proper way to interact with others.

  37. So, on today's walk to the downtown Y, I take one of my shortcuts which takes ya well down below the interstate median for several hundred yards, and what do I behold but a whole line of blackberry territory in prime bloom. Noted it for trip back.   Then about 3/4 of the way there, damn if I don't find a corpse, not more than 15 feet off the street I'm walking, can actually see it from the street. (Dale Ave. before the downtown overpass and Valarium for you Knox folks). Black guy, hard to say, maybe 45-55, no obvious cause of death, but I didn't do much of a forensic, was already getting a bit ripe (first noticed the smell, matter of fact). Pretty much looked like homeless guy, but not for sure, didn't look as rough as many I see.   Called it in and waited for the troops, pretty quick, fire engine, ambulance, couple squad cars. Gave 'em my info and took off, only about 15 min late to the Y.   Oddest thing in retrospect was one cop holding my DL asked me "where are you staying"? I indicated the address on the license. It's a CDL, so maybe he thought I was on the road or something, or then again, maybe figgered I was a street person myself, what with my backpack and the fact I'm grimy with sweat and of course don't dress too much better than many urban outdoorsmen on these treks either.   So, at the Y, now that I have officially entered Full Geezerhood via a Blue Cross Medicare Advantage plan, it also gives me the exalted Silver Sneakers status, and was able to switch over from my normal membership, which means instead of costing me 51 clams a month, it's free! Meaning, thanks guys for helping pay for it!   So I particularly enjoyed the water aerobics with all the (mostly) fat babes, my harem.   And though I don't usually walk the same route both ways, the blackberries summoned. Body of course gone, and nobody poking around the vacant field or anything. So I carry on to the berry lode and pick maybe two quarts of berries, and probably could have done 10, may well go back tomorrow. First time I've walked that route this July or could have been picking them since first of the month I reckon. Just absolutely as sweet as any I've ever gathered, el primo.   So anyway, 2 outta 3 ain't bad all in all for a more unusual than most tramp. And before you rip me for the mild rather than wild workout at the Y, I've got a crummy back, an elbow I dislocated (again) about a month ago, and the walk is 8 miles roundtrip, okay? :)   - OS

  38.   I would think there was something wrong with a guy in a 3 piece suit hanging around a dark alley too, I might profile him as a mafia hit man. :) I have worn a hoodie when it was "COLD" but not for style, i've seen people wearing hoodies when it was 80 degrees outside, it just makes me believe they are trying to hide their face.

  40. I think they're called hybrids or city bikes.... straight handlebars, upright seating position, no front or rear shocks. It's going to be hard to find a comfortable bike seat. I don't think you'd be comfortable on a road bike until you've ridden a few months. Mountain bikes with their big knobby tires are hard to ride on paved bike trails, so that leaves hybrids. A beach cruiser would probably also be okay... too slow for my preferred style of riding, but they should be fine for an easy ride on paved bike trails.

  41. Very good points Sir, and not arguable on my part. I just don't know where the hatred in these threads here come from. Go back and read some of them. I agree 6.8 on most of your issues. You make valid points. It's the hatred "HERE" that's getting me. Peace Out Bro... DSWD Hatred is a strong word, and I wouldn't consider it an accurate representation as to what's been going on here. This is obviously a very hot topic with very strong opinions on both sides. I wouldn't take anything too personally. I couldn't disagree with you any more on this subject, but I definitely don't hate or dislike you or anyone else around here.
