I-65 Closing for Coal Transport I-65 will be closed tomorrow across Tennessee and Kentucky. They are hauling a 200 ton lump of coal to Mount Rushmore in South Dakota so they can add Barack Hussein Obama to the Mount Rushmore monument. B. H. Obama has stated on national TV that he believes himself to be the fourth greatest U.S. President, behind Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln but greater than Theodore Roosevelt. They had to settle for coal, because they couldn't find a 200 ton piece of s**t.5 points

Not for a battery, for powder, piece of brake line, pill bottle, lead ingot and a bit of time. I started to reload 25ACP, the little case is a PIA to get powder into, and at such a small charge it is very hard to get my powder dropper to hold the right load. The 25 cast boolit is for plugging the tube when not in use, it takes 4 full turns to get about 1 gran of Titegroup out. So here it is. Well, in my opinion, I don't think it is good to scare someone who is new to shooting/self defense with price tags and caveats that "anything less isn't good enough"; especially when the vast majority of AR components, such as parts, uppers, lowers and barrels are made in the same place, just given different stamps. The fact is that if there were widespread issues with lower end AR15s it would be well documented and easily accessible information. Other than a bunch of gun snobs on AR15.com, I don't see issues out there for the type of guy who owns an AR for the occasional plinking and home defense. When we, as people who are more experienced than the newcomer, fill their head with misinformation and scare them with cost prohibitive criteria for AR ownership we're doing the community a disservice. I believe every home in America should have an AR15. Not everyone can drop 1,200-1,600 on a DD rifle or a Noveske. They have bills and stuff. If a person can afford a $600 AR then we should encourage them to buy it so long as the company who makes it is reputable. Smith and Wesson and DPMS both make an AR around that price point. Those companies are every bit as reputable as any other. There are very few AR manufacturers that put out faulty products. The ones that do don't last long and tend to change their names every few years.2 points

The more I read about this story the more rage I feel. This whole thing would have been over in less than a couple of seconds if the man was allowed to arm himself. Instead they were forced to rely on a police force who were too late, as usual, and a judicial system that rewards violent criminals and encourages these violent acts. We need to start purging these scum who have been unleashed on our population; we can't depend on the law to do it.2 points

FNEG, the real answer is some of us have been around long enough to have started preparing back in 94. Many more woke up after the shortage in 08. That was when I really kicked it into high gear. I began reloading and buying as much ammo as I could. I went from eating out everyday during lunch to brown bagging it every day. All that savings went into purchasing components or ammo. I did get a bit caught off guard by the 22 thing. I'd slowed down on shooting 22 and let me stock get a little low. The short term end result for me is that I shut 22 shooting down completely. Not optimal but I decided to preserve what I had. My head is on a swivel every time I am in the fun store. I will replenish up to what I need to get through most anything. I'm not preaching even a little bit here. I have friends that got caught out in 08 and they didn't stock up for this event. Now I am shooting and they are not Have fun with the wife and kiddos, Mark1 point

Well, I have got one memory that come to mind that happened back in the mid 70's not to long after I got home from Service. Not much scared me back then. Syill your and dumb and , well you know the rest but anyway I was a part time fireman for subscription fire department there in Donelson/Hermitage area. There are two different events that I can remember both involved me and people that don't respect the sounds of sirens and emergency vehicles trying to get to a fire or accident. This is back when Lebanon Road was still two lane from Donelson to Hermitage. I was driving truck #2 which had a huge nose pump on it plus twin smaller pumps and hauling 800 gallons of water. It's about 8 Pm and a call comes in about a house fire so we are in route had all the lights on the truck lit which I think was about 20 plus both spot lights lit. Had twin Federal Q sires on front fenders that you could hear for at least 10 miles when they were wound up. We reached the two lane and this little old man in a 1971 Ford maverick was going 25 MPH and would not move over. I was on his back bumper and he would not move. I rocked out into left had lane on coming traffic twice but had to get back in because of on coming traffic. Finally I got enough of a break I could get the entire truck in left hand lane and on coming cars were moving to shoulder to give me room. This truck had big hook bumpers that extended out past the rear and I kept looking in mirror and guy in shotgun said your not gonna and about that time I swerved the truck just enough to hook the front wheel well of that maverick and I ripped the fender off the car and never took my foot off the gas, Just reached down and radioed that I hit a car it's 20 and I was still in route so they sent the police and come to find out when we arrived at the house and began fighting the fire the old man in that maverick followed us all the way to the fire and was cussing me and threatening me and I look over at one of the Leos on the seen and he stuffed the old man in a squad car. We put the house out just losing the garage and saving the rest. I looked and Red , one of the other firemen was removing the fender from the rear bumper of the firetruck. In the end the old man got a ticket for fail to yield to emergency vehicles and following a fire truck to a fire and reckless driving. I know it was a mean thing to do but back then I really didn't care........ About a month later same truck different situation. Intersection of Jacksonian Blvd and Lebanon Road. I have #2 stretched out all lights lit sirens screaming and I knew the light was gonna go red on me and I was hoping everyone would sit still on cross street." wrong" big 1972 Buick 225 pulled out into intersection and I couldn't swerve much hauling the water but I was able to hit the land yacht in the rear quarter panel with that front pump and spun the car around in the intersection. Never took my foot out of it and went on to the fire. Just radioed that I hit a car and told them the 20 and a metro police car was sitting in a gas station and saw the whole thing so they were already on site in a few seconds. Four young men high on Pot were in the Buick and they all said they never saw or heard any fire truck and they didn't know what hit them....Needless to say they all went down town to the Graybar Motel. Lost 1 room of the house in the fire. Needless to say my batting averages were not to good with the traffic deals but I was batting 1000 on not losing any complete houses to fires. I worked for them part time until Metro took over in 1978 and Subscription and volunteer fired departments went the way of the dinosaur but I can say one thing I looked back over the years I worked there and we had a better response time and lost less homes to fire than all that fancy metro fire department equipment did in the same time period............ :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:1 point

Naaa I work in a level 1 trauma center and over the years I personally have talked with patients that would have been dead had a hipoint not misfired. Only other gun I have heard that from is Jennings.... Read what you want on the Internet, have yet to hear someone in my ER say "whew glad that glock/sig/colt misfired/jammed". That's not snobbery, that's using the very small sample I have seen and deduced there most likely not as reliable as my Glock (which happens to be ugly as mud also). Not a lot of police departments using hipoints, I am sure they would love the 4:1+ cost ratio they would save. You shouldnt clearance shop for a child car safety seat or a motorcycle helmet also, probably some great deals to be had but when it's your life or your loved ones; should price be the driving factor? You should probably buy the best you can reasonably afford without getting into financial difficulty. Sorry this thread has steered off direction.1 point

Got you didn't I? Anyway, this is my 200yrd saltine cracker 1022. Swift AO Mildot, cutdown and recrowned Urban Rifle Supply sporter barrel, Archangel stock, trigger done by me and fellow TGOr plinkr4life, OEM bolt and receiver. If any of you have a berm to shoot against, shooting saltine crackers (2"x2") at 200 yards is a lot of shooting fun (OK so my next birthday I'll be 59 so my fun might be different than yours:). Try it with a little wind and it can be interesting.1 point

Savage Model 10, 11 series. You want the accutrigger, don't worry about the stock as you will probably dump it anyway. I bought a model 11 Hog Hunter with a 20" threaded barrel. Replaced the stock and bottom metal to accept AICS detachable magazines. Makes a real nice poor man's scout rifle.1 point

I know a lot of people that still live 90% off the land for their food. They hunt deer, Squirrel, Rabbit, Turkey, Ducks, Quail, Doves and any other meat allowed to hunt. They have gardens large enough and several different family members tend the gardens and nothing goes to waste. I began working with a few of my buddies a couple years back and now each Fall we will split two heifers at about 1200 lbs each and 1/2 dozen Hogs we purchase from one farmer and we pay to have them processed. By doing this we are saving about 40% on our meant products for a year. We have the beef processed just like store cuts and we have the pork done the same way including Bacon and Smoked Hams and nothing goes to waste that is edible. We even have found uses for the back bones. Next Spring GOD willing we will be putting a large garden in and begin using many of our own Veggies and buying less in store items. All of this is much healthier since the farmer uses no chemicals on our animals when feeding them up. All natural foods. I think more folks should look into this idea............jmho1 point

Well apparently HiPoint pistols are as reliable and accurate as any. I mean, they look like an unholy abomination, but that is just my snobbery talking. I have some expensive pistols and rifles, and I realize that they can be matched in performance by firearms that are a fraction of their cost... they just won't look as good doing it.1 point

I carried a P90 and an extra mag for years. Now I carry M&P .40 with three 15 round mags and one in the chamber and still feel like I'm short. If I wasn't worried about leaving my AR in the truck overnight, I'd love to have it in there also. I just hate carrying it out everyday with nosey neighbors, yeah it's in a case, but until I get a guitar case like in The Mexican, it looks like a gun case. What's sad, is so many people would be just like the family in the suv, no way to protect themselves, and I'm mad because I only have 46 rounds at all times along with a 100 round box of ammo in the console. I carry this every day in and out of the car, all day long except while inside at work. I guess most are happy to lay down and be a victim, not me.....well and most of y'all on TGO as well.1 point

I dont understand the argument a 20g shotgun is easier to maneuver around a house than a 16" barrel AR (no pistol grip ninja's either...). As for loud you havent lived until you have shot a .357 inside (and yes I have fired an AR indoors). In a home invasion some hearing loss will be the least of my worries. Think of it this way if I was on one end of your house and you was on the other and you had the choice to arm me with either a judge or an AR and you take the other. Can you honestly with a straight face say you would choose the Judge over the AR? Whats to stop a home invader from arming himself with an AR? Bottom line with the right ammo an AR is a very effective home defense weapon. Pistols are for fighting your way to your rifle.1 point

It's illegal to be engaged in the business of selling firearms without a FFL. There is no specific number of firearm sales that determines that. From 18 USC § 921: "The term “engaged in the business†means— ... as applied to a dealer in firearms, as defined in section 921 (a)(11)(A), a person who devotes time, attention, and labor to dealing in firearms as a regular course of trade or business with the principal objective of livelihood and profit through the repetitive purchase and resale of firearms, but such term shall not include a person who makes occasional sales, exchanges, or purchases of firearms for the enhancement of a personal collection or for a hobby, or who sells all or part of his personal collection of firearms ...... The term “with the principal objective of livelihood and profit†means that the intent underlying the sale or disposition of firearms is predominantly one of obtaining livelihood and pecuniary gain, as opposed to other intents, such as improving or liquidating a personal firearms collection." ---------------- Don't come under ATF's radar and all should be cool. But if you do, guess who makes the determination? For Gawd's sake don't sell personally to out of state resident by mail or in person, or even to a TN resident if you're not in TN at the time -- check TN DL even though not "technically" required. That buyer might not be just a buyer, ya know? - OS1 point

Ok, again I'm not going to actually admit to anything, but since I posted this on the hunting board a while back, I guess re-posting it here would only be fair. This was originally written as a "letter of introduction" to acquaint a former supervisor of mine with the Rocky Mountains, but the world works in funny ways and, as luck would have it, it also turned out to be the first piece I had published and appeared in Muzzle Blasts magazine in January of 2001. Dear Boss: Congratulations on having chosen the Colorado Rocky Mountains as your vacation spot this year! As you may know, even though I'm originally from Kansas, I have spent a great deal of time in the Rockies. In fact, due in large part to inaccurate maps, faulty compasses and the mysterious geologic forces which strive to constantly re-arrange otherwise familiar landmarks - I have probably spent more time in the Colorado back country than most members of the search and rescue team. At any rate, I am convinced that you, yourself could not have picked a better destination. I must admit that I am honored that you have come to me for advice and I commend you on your excellent judgment. Naturally, over the years, I have acquired an almost encyclopedic knowledge on this subject and you may believe me when I say that I have forgotten more than you know. From the time of Zebulon Pike to present there have been literally thousands of books and articles authored on the subject of camping and living in the Rocky mountains So many so that my wife jokingly inquired as to why anyone over the age of eight who owns a library card would willingly come to me for advice. I politely informed her that I, for one, could understand your wanting to learn things that only a real expert like myself would know! With that in mind, Boss, I have decided not to fill your brain with information easily obtained from other sources. Instead, I have enclosed the following list of things you should NOT do while you are in the mountains. I know you should not do these things, because unfortunately, I have done them all at some point in the past. Needless to say, the results have ranged from just thoroughly embarrassing to damn near disastrous! Good Luck Boss! May you learn at least as much from my "adventures" as I have... Things you should NOT do in the Mountains (Or anywhere else for that matter!) 1. Do not wrap an egg in clay and place it the campfire to cook. 2. Do not try to start a campfire using only a mouthful of brandy and a Zippo lighter. 3. No matter how cute and cuddly it may look - Do not try to pet a baby porcupine. 4. Never try to kill a skunk with a banjo! 5. Never try to bluff a moose... 6. Never try to cross a stream on any log which is more than ten feet above the water - Especially if the water is less than three feet deep! 7. Never leave your clothes more than a mile from where you are actually "skinny-dipping." 8. NEVER allow yourself to be convinced that riding a plastic toboggan down a two thousand foot snow mass and into a mountain lake would be "a really neat thing to do!" 9. Do not sneak up on your camp partner and "woof" like a grizzly - Especially if they are holding a cast iron skillet or a fly rod. 10. Do not throw rocks or pinecones at your camp partner when they in the bushes answering the call of nature - Especially if they are bigger and meaner than you are. 11. Do not throw rocks or pinecones at any stump that looks like a sleeping bear. 12. If you must climb a tree to escape from a recently awakened bear, do NOT disturb anything which looks like a wasp nest (at least until AFTER you are past it). And finally - Even if the hornets choose to go after the bear and leave you with only a few stings - Do not jump up and down, clap your hands and laugh uproariously while you are still standing in the uppermost branches of a pine tree! ...TS...1 point
