I don't know about race wars in the future but I do know about the present. I know the black guys I work with come to work everyday, work hard while they are there and treat me with respect. I know the black folks that live in my neighborhood keep their yards nice, discipline their kids and stop and talk when I'm in the yard. I know the black folks I go to church with have dreams, hopes, fears and disappointments just like I do. I know that I'm not to concerned with the future because I'm trying to treat my fellow man the way I want to be treated. All I know is the black folk I see everyday are just trying to make a decent life for themselves and their families. I know that black gangs that attack white people are just thugs and criminals. I know that white gangs that attack black people are just thugs and criminals. I know we need more good white and black police to catch and lock up these thugs. I know we need more good black and white judges that will send these criminals to prison for their crimes. I know we need more white and black prison guards to work these criminals on chain gangs from sun up to sun down. I know we need more black and white voters who will make the hard choices to make this happen. I know that these theories of gloom and doom always seem to come from the wealthy and intellectual elites that live off the public tit. I know these theories come from people who have never had to work from the sweat of their brows to just get by let alone get ahead in this life. I know that if those of us both black and white that have to live together in the " real world" don't unite and voice our unity these talking heads will keep spreading their poison. I know I will take one of my black friends to lunch this week just to show Sewell he doesn't know what he's talking about. I know that blacks and whites can live together in peace and harmony but not by the teaching of the intellectual elites. I know our lives of peace and harmony can only come through the teachings of Jesus.8 points

I agree with everything you just said......except the "WE" part. White folk as a race have VERY dirty hands, but I ain't killed anyone, I ain't t subjugated anyone to my tyrannical rule. I'm sick and damn tired of being made to feel guilty for people with who happen to have similar chemical composition of skin pigment.8 points

They don't want this. They might THINK they want this, but they DON'T. I've said this before, I'll say it again. If a race war is ever a reality, I would hate to be anything other than white. History stands witness, white men are very proficient at wholesale slaughter. Also, how many non white ammo hoarding preppers have you ever seen? Survivalists? Hunters and those into hardcore bushcraft? This isn't a racial thing (from me) its just statistical fact, the VAST majority of privately owned weapons are owned by whites and a great number of those know how to use them.8 points

All I got from that article was - Thomas Sowell is writing for World News Daily? Has the man lost so much credibility that it's come to this? Does he need a paycheck that bad? I've got a bunch of stuff that I'd love to say on this topic, but I am going to refrain for now so that I don't find myself having to moderate myself. I'm really of the mind to shut this thread down before it gets started. But, I'm going to leave it open for now. Let this serve as your warning. Bring something intelligent to the conversation or don't participate.4 points

Eh, my family came over on a crowded, diseased ship about 100 years ago and didnt have a pot to piss in. I refuse to believe I am a beneficiary of "white wealth". There isn't a dime I have that I didn't earn myself. I have never received money from my parents. I have inherited nothing. The only money I've ever borrowed was from a bank for a house and some cars. I don't owe anybody nothin, nor should I feel guilty about anything. A black man walking the streets today has only himself to blame for his successes and failures. Playing the blame game is why there is such a problem. Being able to blame the white devil for all their woes is what keeps people in poverty; it gives them a sense of entitlement while at the same time gives them no incentive to improve their station in life. As long as they are "owed" something there is no reason to work for it.3 points

Meanwhile in DC, in the last 24 hours there have been multiple murders, millions in illegal drugs dealt and dozens of armed robberies. Good to hear they diverted so many assets to take a couple boxes of ammo from an otherwise law abiding citizen though. They sure be keepin the streets safe.3 points

Agreed. The headline is an eye grabber meant to elicit a certain response, good or bad, from the reader. When you get into the nuts and bolts of the article it has less to do with a looming "race war" and has more to do with the media's silence when it comes to black on white attacks which are racially motivated. Of course, I don't really care that attacks are racially motivated, it just bothers me that when there is a racially motivated attack by white assailant(s) on a black person the media runs with it as if the country is about to come unglued because there is so much racism from whites. On one hand I understand where that comes from, but on the other hand I can't comprehend why we historically deny what is so evident. More black people are murdered in the span of a few years by other black people than the slave trade and KKK combined over the course of American history. The fact our society continues to deny it, or at least turn a blind eye to it, in fear of looking bigoted is probably the biggest contributer to the murderous and drug addicted culture of the poor black community. As long as we have this sector of society that is brought up to believe that there is an evil to blame for all their woes they will continue to feel animosity towards seemingly privilaged white people. Instead we feel badly because of our country's history of slavery and inequality, and that buries the reality that rap culture romanticizes gang life and drug use creating a never ending pool of young recruits who end up drug addicted, dead or incarcerated. The notion of a race war suggests this is a race issue that would pit one race against another. There are too many smart white and black people out there to know better. This is not racial, it is socioeconomic. Every race has its problems, and to say the root of the problem is race is to suggest that we aren't born equally worthless. Even with all the stories of black mobs attacking white and hispanic victims, we can't deny that this is some new precedent specific to a skin color. About a hundred years ago there were mobs of Italian and Irish youngsters roaming the streets in New England cities, robbing, killing, raping and so on. The difference is that it was okay for the news to acknowledge it. To acknowledge that a group of black teens attacked a different color person simply because that person is a different color makes the person acknowledging it racist somehow. It really is quite interesting to see the social norms cause folks to do such mental gymnastics to come to that conclusion. At the same time though, there are plenty of loud voices out there who are truly racist who jump on these stories in order to portray blacks in general to be the problem, rather than suggest it is cultural/socioeconomical, which not all black folks are part of such culture..... and then the race war crap starts and it becomes clear that it truly is about race with the person wishing for such a race war. This give legitimacy to the very media who refuse to report racially motivated crimes committed by blacks yet focus on racially motivate crimes by whites. This could all be solved by simply acknowledging reality. There are racist white people and there are racist black people. However, one from either group doesn't speak for the whole. Even a mob from one group doesn't speak for the whole. Furthermore, the racist actions of one person or group of people does not excuse racist reactions from the opposite race. Once again, it is the fringe folks who dominate the debate and polarize folks to their side by changing the perception. Bottom line, we are all equally worthless. Skin color don't make you good or bad, nor does it excuse any bad done, nor does it make you responsible for the actions of people who share your skin color. The more we get hung up on race the more we deny the actual problem, and you can't fix what you don't acknowledge (to quote Dr. Phil).3 points

If you want to watch the news I suggest something like BBC, Al Jazeera, RTM or some other foreign new organization. They generally report our news in an unbiazed way. People want to hate Al Jazeera but it is actually pretty good at reporting the news. Our media, all sides, generally is very biased and will gladly forget about news if it doesn't fit their agenda.2 points

I would love to see a reversal of the norms so that carrying a weapon is normal and not a threat nor a concern to the average citizen. But I do not think that can be done overnight. I would love to see long gun carry not draw the police to you nor be an issue, but it IS. So its not being hypocritical to say we would like to see *arms* made legal yet do not recommend "Voldemort" tactics to get us there. We are the good guys. We are not stupid. We should be able to find a POSITIVE way to do this rather than strapping on hardware and scaring the crap out of everyone. No matter what, a few liberals and idiots are going to be scared by any weapon, and those can be ignored -- what I am talking about is doing something that has every other person who sees you calling the cops which leads to 4 officers having a talk with you every 15 min (ok, that is gonna happen some, so far so good) and then responding like a jerk about it -- giving the cops a hard time (hey, they were CALLED in because of YOUR hardware, and are just doing their job (PROTECT and serve) and doing the in-your-face negative publicity. Of all that, only the last bit is the problem: do it, respond calmly to the cops, let them look at the weapon, let them see your ID, and put on your church manners for em. Be polite. Let them know you are not hurting anyone. Grin and bear it. If the gun owning community could just trade a little pride in, we could return the country (or parts of it, anyway) to a state where having a weapon is not an immediate reason to dial 911, but instead a commonplace thing that is of no concern. It will take years, but people adapt well if given a little encouragement, I would bet inside 5 years the fear over weapons would be mostly cured.2 points

Ya dont have to look very far if you are intellectually honest to see that on the whole; we are bad and not good.... As others have wisely opined, that, my friends is the problem... Havin said all that; i do believe that over the years, the cultural norms (...world view, religious dogma, etc....) have been distorted and de-constructed to the point that lots of folks are believing a lie and ignoring that which is right in front of their eyes... The black family wuz destroyed by the War on Poverty when we told the black father to get lost and made the black welfare society a matriarchal society.... That's a fact.... The same thing is goin on now in the the poor white family unit... I think the last data i saw was that approximately 78% of blacks were born out of wedlock and about 29% of whites are born out of wedlock... We have long known that if ya want to be poor; just have a child as a youngster, have no education or job skills, and live by yourself... I think this fact alone is, in fact the biggest problem that we face as a society... The fact is that governmental policies have created a "plantation" subclass that has finally gotten big enough to be a danger to both society and country... More than that, we are also seein for the first time ever, a main line political apparatchik (....the Obama administration and his enablers...) who are going straight to that demographic to gain political power... Said another way, this is the first time in american history that the "non-producers" were given preferential treatment over "producers" in political strategy calculations by a legitimate (...or illigitimate, depending on your view....), main line political party... This action, alone, is unique, because it smacks of "third worldism" ALA bananna republics and african "democracys" like Angola, South Africa, and Zimbabwe... It's against this background of "plantationism" that i think is drivin this "race war" rhetoric... The fact is that it aint a "race war"; its a class war with the demagogues of both political stripes vying to pass out largesse that is causin lots of friction now in their machinations to stay in power... In some quarters, this "friction" is emboldening some of the nuttier elements to shoot and pillage; but as others have wisely opined; you will always have some fraction of the population that is willing to do these things... Havin said that, i do believe that, on the whole, there is a "chip on the shoulder" of the black population that has been put there by their race baiting handlers, the democrat party, and elements within the black church (...ala Jeremiah Wright, and other "Black Liberation" theologians and socialist apparatchiks...)... Like everything else, there are some notable exceptions to this generalization.... We all can name some... As to the "chip on the shoulder" thing; it's always easier to blame some faceless, nameless monsters (....whitey, the latinos, the asians, the gubmt, the Builderburgers, the Zionists, etc, etc, etc,,...) for your problems than to face them... If ya face them, ya have to decide whether to fix 'em or not... Lots of people would rather not face that decision, therefore ya have what ya have... The fact is that until we believe as a people that you are to work and not be "on the dole", that ya have to be personally responsible for your actions, that you are to work for what ya have and not covet your neighbors goods, that you believe on a personal basis that "whitey" or "blacky" or "browney" (...your neighbor...) hasnt stolen anything from you and that you are justified in takin it from him either by the force of the government bayonet or with your own gun, that gubmt is the problem and not the solution, that you have a responsibility to your brother (...and sister...) to threat them as you would be treated, and that you create your own opportunities, this situation will only worsen... I think you are seeing more and more people waking up and seeing the sobering fact that we are rapidly rapidly heading toward something that we do not want in this country... There is a political war goin on between those who want a two class system (...rich and poor...) and a socialist welfare state and those who think america should be democratic, free, and prosperous, and that folks should make their own way.... Everybody needs to take a side in this "war" and fix this problem; or there will be a "real war"... I think that is what Thomas Sowell is really talkin about... My advise is that we all need to be thinkin and doin something about this ourselves.... Food for thought... leroy2 points

Not in an urban setting, maybe. But if I want to walk the 1/4 mile down the rural road to my uncle's house or the next 1/4 mile to my brother's to see if he wants to go hunt some coyotes with my AR, I either have to 1) not walk and drive instead or 2) carry the gun there and then go back for my ammo in order to be absolutely legal. I can come up with several more that do not involve Walmart or Starbucks. I see what you're saying. You smell hypocrisy from those who berate some activists for carrying long guns in public and then say that it shouldn't be illegal. But it isn't hypocrisy to think that something is stupid but still shouldn't be illegal. It's a respect for liberty. Some of us still adhere to the old quote "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it". The statists are the ones who say "I don't agree with what you say so there should be a law against you saying it. Another anecdote. My sister-in-law smokes cigarettes. I jump her case about it all the time. I think smoking is stupid. But I don't want to be able to call the government and have their enforcers come haul her away. On the contrary, if someone were to try that, they would have to face me first. I don't see the inconsistency there.2 points

You are ascribing the views of others, which I have neither stated nor endorsed, to me. Please don't. If you want to debate others for views they hold, cool, but that isn't what I have said so don't expect me to defend other's positions. I do OC on occasion. I would like long gun OC legalized because I can foresee times where it would be appropriate. I don't think strapping my AR to my back and heading down to Starbucks (who doesn't want my gun there in the first place) and all but screaming "look at me!!!!" falls under the heading of appropriate. That still doesn't mean I think the government has any business making a law against it. Just as I don't want other folks using the government against me to legislate their idea of what is or is not a good idea, I refuse to do the same to others. Laws should not be used to protect people from themselves. There is a vast difference between me saying, "what you are doing is stupid and you are a dumbass for doing it" and "what you are doing is stupid, so we made it illegal. Now turn around and place your hands behind your back." One of them is the expression of an opinion, the other is an act of violence. Like I said before, just because I don't think an action should be illegal, doesn't mean I can't call you a dumbass for doing it.2 points

About 15 years ago (I was in my early twenties), a very good looking girl came to the door trying to sell magazines. She was a big flirt, and became an even bigger flirt when I declined to buy any magazines. By time she left, I was writing a check for almost $60, and I had her phone number. The very next evening, her mug, and about a half-dozens others, was plastered all over the 10:00 news for scamming people into buying magazines from a bogus charity or .org. Not surprisingly, I never received the magazines, and the phone number wasn't hers. To this day, I will not buy a magazine from anyone other than a child in my family. And only after I do a thorough background check.2 points

Dick Durbin made the claim, Boehner's and Cantor's spokesmen say it did not happen, then even Jay Carney says it didn't. Now seems it may have had an even darker genesis: http://legalinsurrection.com/2013/10/white-house-gave-false-cant-stand-to-look-at-you-meme-to-harry-reid-who-gave-it-to-durbin-who-went-public/ Btw, I know what you mean about politics; after the election, I seriously considered attempting to take the News Junkie 12 Step Program, and drop out the best I could. But I'm just too hooked, I guess. Main thing that works for me is that I regained my sense of aloofness as merely a contemporary historian -- and in that role find gratitude that I'm privy to what I see as a pivotal time in US history. And even though the 24 hour news cycle can be deceptive, it really does seem as if the changes are accelerating, compressed into smaller blocks of time, and with quicker observable consequences than ever before. Without that level of detachment, though, I'd be reduced to a sputtering mass of enraged protoplasm. I hope there's something that arises in which I could actually engage to help in the patriotic sense, but I frankly don't see any possibilities of any real consequence in that regard -- even given the most extreme of scenarios, I believe anarchy is quite likely at some point, but another revolution for freedom's sake is not. - OS1 point

Sounds right. You will need an upper vise block, and possibly a lower vise block (I used an old steel magazine) I'd stick with 556 if it's your first AR. The 2 ton vise will be just fine. Only need 40-50lbs torque on barrel nut (assuming gas tub hole lines up) Magazines are pretty plentiful right now. Here are links for each of the three bureaus. Unfortunately the lobbyists have persuaded our lawmakers to make this way more difficult than it needs to be. Right now you have to go to each of the three bureaus: Experian - http://www.experian.com/consumer/security_freeze.html Transunion - http://www.transunion.com/personal-credit/credit-disputes/credit-freezes.page - This is the bureau most commonly used to pull consumer reports right now Equifax - https://www.freeze.equifax.com/Freeze/jsp/SFF_PersonalIDInfo.jsp Also, if you have children, this is well worth doing for them as well. Though in the case of a minor, you'll have to write the bureaus first to see if your child has a credit report before you can place a freeze. With recent changes in the law, it's not uncommon for minors to have some form of credit report. Criminals know this, and we see cases all the time where family members take advantage of their young family members' credit to finance their bad habits. Here's some info on that through Experian that's applicable to all three bureaus.1 point

I emailed him a couple links last night. He called me earlier this morning and basically said "I did it again didn't I". I asked him if he knew anything about Strider knives before he bought these because the price alone should have been a dead giveaway. He said he knew they were good knives but that was about it. He wouldn't tell me where he got them or what he paid but I told him I found several places that sell them for around 15 bucks shipped from China. He was quiet for a second and then told me he had given a guy $200 for both of them. He said he knows the guy and couldn't believe he did that to him. I asked him if the guy was local and he said yes. He's quiet again for a few seconds. "I'm going to his house to get my money back and I need you to go with me". I'm thinking, I don't want to get involved in this crap but I'm not going to let him go by himself. I ask him who it is and he tells me. I know this guy and he's not somebody you want to get in a brawl with. My buddy asked me if I would still go with him. I said yea, I'll go but I hope you don't get my ass kicked over you spending $200 on knives. He said "Jimmy, you don't really think I like you enough to buy you a $100 knife". Then he started laughing. The b@stard got me!! Somebody gave the knife to his son. He knew it was fake and decided to mess with me a little. And yes he had me believing him the whole time. He's called twice to rub it in and I've laughed my ass off all morning. I love having friends like this. There will be payback.1 point

Is this a gas pack outside? The first issue is to find out where the water is coming from. No need to replace or repair and still have water issue. You can find a cheap unit for that price but probably not worth it in the long run. Repair vs replacement will most likely depend on the age of the unit. If unit is ten or more years in age your most likely better off replacing . I would guess that the heat exchangers are bad rather than the burners . You can replace a burner fairly cheaply but the heat exchangers are a different story. The term control panel can mean a lot of different things. Make sure your second opinion is very specific about which electrical parts are bad. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.1 point

So long as your 30-30 is a modern gun, I wouldn't get anything else. Check out the 30-30 offerings from Buffalo Bore. If a 190gr JFP in 30cal won't kill it, you need to leave it alone. How about we get the government out of everyone's marriage - gay and straight. Seriously. Make them all civil unions, and if there are benefits to be had, then extend them to everyone. If you then want the church to recognize your relationship, and want a ceremony in a church - then find one that echoes your beliefs and get them to perform one for you. Even as a Christian, I just don't get it. I don't particularly agree with the homosexual lifestyle, but it's not like the sin they bring to the table is somehow greater than the sin that I bring to the table. And, from a "who is my neighbor" perspective, I just don't understand how you keep someone out of a hospital room or whatever in a time of need. Power is terribly corrupting, but I'm wary of the end result when we as the church try to use the government(Babylon, if you will) as a weapon to do our bidding.1 point

Something we all need to be reminded of from time to time in regards to a hand gun carry permit 1) in a life or death situation when we pull our hand gun we must be willing to shoot and 2) if we feel we must shoot we shoot until the threat is stopped. if any doubt about this we probably don't need a handgun carry permit.1 point
