  11. It's the same ole sh!t anytime one of these bastards gets what coming to him.  I have never heard a family go on tv and say, "Yep, he was a piece of shit.  Always did think he was a worthless asshole.  He deserved to get shot."    Frankly, I think the shooter did society a great service.  I wish more of these thugs would get ventilated at a young age.  Why should we wait until they become "hardened criminals?"

  17. I tend to disagree with open carry myself only because you are increasing the chance of creating this type of situation as previously stated. Hate to be judgemental but I feel like most of the people that are open carrying do so because they WANT the attention. That, IMHO, is the wrong reason to carry a firearm... 18. That is the law here. As much as I hate to say it, in this state it is a priviledge to carry a firearm and that priviledge can be taken away.   Also, anyone carrying a firearm in this state is breaking the law. That includes those with a HCP, LE officers, literally anyone and everyone. It is only after an investigation that it can be determined that a person has a defense to breaking the law. If an officer sees anyone with a gun they have probable cause to believe a crime is being committed and can investigate. Once he sees the person has a valid HCP, which is a defense, the person cannot be charged.   Until the officer verifies a person has a valid defense he has no clue whether the person has a defense to breaking the law and can assume the person is breaking the law. It is just the way the law is written. It is written so that anyone with a firearm is breaking the law but the defenses keep anyone from being arrested.

My dad had a tree stand incident years ago that could've left him paralyzed easily (hanging by both legs then falling from 15 feet on your head) but he came away with only 2 broken legs and ankles. No real fault, just equipment failure. Check your equipment fellas!

  24. Try taking a bone away from a pack of starving dogs... tell me how that goes.  Look at Europe for examples of what happens when you try and make even minor cuts in social welfare programs....   They burnt down buildings in the capital over a slight increase is college tuition costs.  What do you think happens to downtown Detroit, Newark or even Lexington, KY if the just did away with disability and food stamps?   Dolomite, I contribute to candidates I believe in, I call both my state and federal legislators at least 8 to 10 times a year.  So, I'm not just 'crying' about the problems on the Internet.   But the fact is to avoid massive social unrest, where on civil society breaks down, would take us decades to fix...  and we don't have decades left on the credit card.  The truth is you're right, there is a coming showdown between the liberty elements, and the 'social justice' elements, where people will have to make a choice...  and it's likely that choice will be made at the point of a gun.   Some of us believe that natural rights, stand above all things created by man, they existed first and therefore can not be taken away by a man or group of men.  When a 'law' or legal theory is used to immoral infringe on those rights and force is used to assert control under the law of free people, that we not only have the right but the duty to fight back through whatever force is needed.   I hope I'm wrong...  I hope that we're able to find a solution that doesn't result in the attempt to crush our liberty in the name of security and social justice...  but I fear we won't before it too late and the answer that people accept when that times come is to welcome even more soul sucking government control because liberty is a dangerous and scary place.   Make no mistake, I'm not advocating violence, nor am I some 'wanna-be rambo', I realize that insurrection is about the worse thing that could happen...  but it's a lot better than being a slave with no freedom, which is what is in store for us if we're disarmed.

  25. It's still going to be a little while, yet.   Uppers are still being machined.  Per the last update I got from Jeff, they plan to ship them out to be anodized on the 18th.  With the holiday, they hope to have them back and start shipping them out by the 10th of December.  So, assuming everything proceeds as planned, we should have no problem with having these in folks hands in time for Christmas - just like we originally hoped.

  26. How about rather say nothing will come of this we all start making calls and sending emails. Not to those who want to impeach him but to those who would not want to impeach him. We don't need to convince those that are doing it that they are in the right, we need to convince those who think Holder is in the right. I guarantee if everyone made a call a day it would soon make them think about their next term and they would do the right thing.

  27. You seem to have missed what's been going on. The Looters are now running the country. It is not being run by a small collection of administrators, doing a little here and a little there to make things run smoothly, the tipping point has been reached and vast quantities of wealth are being liberated and used to buy influence to keep those in power in power. We don't have a government, we have banditos.

  28.   This is exactly a big reason why I support carry. Sure, we'll lose a few good guys along the way but we vastly outnumber the bad guys and eventually they'll be (mostly) gone. We shouldn't allow these kinds of people to fester in society.   And of course it's natural that the mother would seek to blame others. The alternative is to admit that she is a ####ty mother and responsible for her son's death because she didn't bring him up right. It's not her son she's trying to paint in a good light, it's herself cause she's no good.

  29.   5th grade for me.    I picked up one of these http://store.oldgrouch.biz/molleiiflcvest.html it is the usgi issue molle II FLC vest. you can add or move around any molle compatible pouches as needed. I have not got it totally outfitted but it looks like what I am going for. I got the late model with the zipper up the front. It said it was used but mine was brand new still in the plastic. Maybe some of the military guys on here have used these before and can give a review of actually wearing one. The price was right on it so I thought I would try it out. There is a lot of adjustment and it is a one size fits all. There is no belt and it rides kind of high so you can still use a belt of some kind if you want to. Old Grouch Surplus is top notch to deal with.

  32. 765x53 (or x54, seen it both ways).  I have it still, shoots out of a 1909 mauser.    It is very accurate.  With Iron sights I can pop skeet clays (stationary..!) at 200 yards, which is all the range I have most of the time sadly.  I considered hunting with it but the rifle should not be subjected to any abuse, its collectable and while I shoot it some, I am gentle with it.   Its not that its any better than anything else that impresses me.  Its not the amazing piece of hardware I have to shoot it from, either, though that is certainly a nice rifle.    To me, its that this round, developed very early, is virtually identical to a 308.  Smokeless powder was still just a few years old when this cartridge was developed and they had several iterations of bullet designs to work on the aerodynamics.   Well over 100 years later, it can still hold its own with most modern cartridges.    In all honesty, I like a 308 or 243 just as much performance wise, and this one just gets the nod due to its age & "neat" factor.

  35. I've owned several of these in .22LR over .410.  The one I currently own, made in 1954, has had two rounds through the .22LR pipe and has the hang tag. It was my mother in law's wedding present from my late father in law. And NO, he was not killed in 1954 by the first round through the pipe, although that might have been justified even back then. But whether you have an old one, an M6 (very expensive now days) or the new Savage plastic gun, they can be fun squirrel guns and a passable farm varmint gun.  Trying to elevate these guns to Jedi status like many old guns are seems stupid to me.  Triggers are crap, guns are not really fast or particularly robust compared to some modern guns, and they are not more accurate.  So to me paying premium prices seems stupid.

  38. that argument doesn't hold water...the founders specifically stated that no man should be deprived of life or liberty without due process....this goes back to support the argument purported by many of the posters...the individual makes the decision to relinquish their rights...the legal process is just a byproduct of that decision...   as far as having a right to protect myself goes, I believe in a level playing field...so did our founding fathers...you know those enemies of the state?

  40. He was actually just walking on a walking track (using it for its intended purpose).  He wasn't wandering around, acting weird.  He was literally minding his own business.  The only thing that made him any different from anyone else was that he had holstered firearm.   His was not lurking around a playground; the walking path goes near a playground.   You may have a mis-impression from the article.  He was not a lurker.  He was not baiting a cop.  Carrying a gun is not reasonable suspicion in Georgia.  The security guard lied in his report that he asked him to leave.  Also, the carrier had called the office in charge of the park to make sure it was not illegal, even though he knew Georgia law pre-empted any ordinances they may have had, because he did not want to be hassled for exercising his rights.     So in summary, he was walking on a walking trail for the sole purpose of exercising, and he happened to be carrying a firearm, which he does on a daily basis.  He was not acting suspicious; the security guard's report states that the guard initiated the contact solely because he saw the gun, and he did not think people were allowed to have a gun in the park.  He even called the local authorities to see if there was an ordinance.  All the "suspicious behavior" that was subsequently reported was after the authorities (security guard and LEOs) started questioning him, and they did not like that a person was refusing to have his rights trampled.  He made some flippant responses, but I suspect that the longer they detained him with no actual RAS, the less cooperative he became.     He tried to leave when confronted, even though he did not have to do so.  He presented his weapons license when asked, even though he did not have to do so.  The LEO got hung up on the fact that he didn't have a driver's license with him (he leaves it in his car), but there is no law in Georgia that you have to carry or present a picture i.d. to a cop.  The encounter should have never have happened, but it should have ended as soon as they saw that he was legal to carry.  Instead, they didn't like that he was not cooperative enough, so they arrested him based on an incorrect statement from the guard (that he had been asked to leave and wouldn't, so he wanted to trespass him).

  41. North of Sopchoppy in Wakulla County. Apalachicola NF. Their prop line to the west is the Ochlocknee River. It's a great place and covered with deer and turkeys. But I have a hard time hunting there. It drives me crazy that it's so damn thick, it don't have hardly any land features compared to my TN hills n hollers, the deer seemingly rut whenever they feel like it (no matter the month, everytime I've been down I have seen very small fawns) and did I mention it's so damn thick. Coolest thing is they have a muzzleloader hunt on up in Feb and that's fun.

  42. There is a huge difference between real racism and ethnic stereotyping. Many (but not all) stereotypes have at least some historical factual basis. Others are rather ludicrous, but sometimes still humorous depending on the context. Unfortunately, political correctness (group-think, controlled speech, etc) has been gradually introduced as "the norm" for many people. The result is the total loss of a sense of humor in general, and a complete blurring of what constitutes true harmful racism. Unless it is directed at male Caucasians... especially those who believe in RKBA and limited government.   The PC movement has bastardized the term "racist" to the point that it has virtually no substance-- even in the event that legitimate racism is evident (i.e. willful and purposeful inclusion, exclusion, promotion or punishment based primarily on a person's race or ethnicity).   I have a close friend and longtime band-mate who's father was Japanese. He was born here, is a US citizen and speaks perfect English. He not only makes stereotypical Asian linguistic jokes, but also sometimes corrects my "Engrish".  a great guy who has a good sense of humor about everything.   I've always held the belief that if I couldn't laugh at my own stereotypes (white, can't dance, have no musical taste, ignorant redneck, doesn't wear shoes, etc) then I had no room to find humor in other racial stereotypes... fact is, I find the entire human race incredibly funny AND sad-- and that goes for all creeds, races, and ethnicities.   I guess I've never experienced the liberal guilty pleasure of self-loathing and self-pity, so I don't really feel sorry for anyone else, nor do I feel guilty about anything that any of my dead ancestors may have done/not done. If you can't have an occasional laugh every once in a while, life becomes what the misery-peddlers are pushing-- pretty miserable.

  43.     This.   Before you buy stuff, I strongly suggest you get quotes from a couple pro's.  I got insulation installed for less than it would have cost me just for the materials.   I had my floors insulated with R19 bat and R19 equivalent blown into the attic (for a total of R38).  I like walking around the house barefoot and it helped a bit with how cold the floor feels.            My house is the same way.  Every time I undertake some sort of project I find myself staring and something and thinking... Really?  :shake:

  44. My nieces husband is Chinese and he thought that was funny.  Not ROTFL funny but he said that he didn't feel that was racist, he thought it was stereotype humor.  He said if it were derogatory to "his" people it would be hurtful.  My wife's father was Polish and some of the best Polish jokes.  He said when everyone can't laugh at themselves they might as well not laugh at all..

  49. There are always two sides to the story and the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Even the OP's version is questionable behavior so I am sure it was a lot worse in reality.     That one sentence is very telling. You say you can control yourself as you threaten a fellow officer.   Was the inmate handcuffed in the front or the back?   Also, were you fired or did you resign in lieu of being fired?   Not a FOP member?   The way I see it there have been enough people who have seen the case, as well as your mannerisms and demeanor, to say with great certainty that you should probably not have a HCP.   If you are being paid for providing security in TN you MUST have a guard license issued by the state of TN. Armed or unarmed doesn't matter but if it is armed you must have an armed guard license that requires a qualification with your carry weapon(s). If you get hurt you might be SOL because you were breaking the law at the time you were injured.      An inmate staring at you in NOT a reason to take them to the ground. An inmate taking his hands off the wall and staring at you is NOT a reason to take them to the ground. And we all know that taking someone to the ground is never done gingerly. If you worked in a hostile enviroment why did you not quit as soon as it became apparent. That allegation will get tossed out because it is obvious and allegation that it retaliatory in nature.   I am not deleting or locking threads to save people from themselves. If another mod wants to they can but David has unlocked several threads I locked at the OP's request.   I am trying to see fault in the process and I cannot. There is always the option of getting a HCP from another state.

  50. I imagine the office asked her to unload it as an alternative to taking possession of the weapon for the duration of the stop which is something the law specifically allows for reasons of "officer safety". My question to the officer would be to ask how having me handle my weapon helps increase his safety? Wouldn't the weapon staying put in its holster be a much safer course of action for everyone involved?
