My son, who is a Senior this year called a little while ago to tell me about his day today. My son is in the JROTC program at his high school. Today they had an assembly to meet and greet two MOH recipients from the Vietnam War. If I understood him correctly via long distance cell call, he met two gentlemen by the name of USMC Vargas and US Army Fritz. Both gave speeches and took the time to meet and greet the Cadets. It was apparently covered by a television station so he is watching the news for a glimpse of himself.

I think the frame IS the gun. That means parts or no parts it has a serial number and is the firearm in the eyes of the  batf so I'd be careful on mailing it to someone who is not an ffl.

The police should be treated exactly like anyone else IMHO.   If guns are not allowed, they are not allowed.  A police state can be defined by having one group that is armed and another that is disarmed.   Giving special consideration to officers is WRONG and is a step in the WRONG direction.  

  Fair enough.  I was pointing out that it isn't strange at all that someone would prepare for the unknown by having a stock of food, water and weapons yet not have a bulletproof fortress.  Most folks don't have the ability to waste money on that.  Folks have to balance preparedness with the actual reality of problems they have a greater likelihood of encountering.  I used health insurance as an example because it is terribly expensive, yet it is more of a necessity.    For those of us with a family to support, you should understand that it isn't silly that we don't drop thousands upon thousands of dollars constructing a bulletproof structure within a home for the unlikely apocalypse.  Even if I was single and had mounds of cash to blow, I'd still consider the fact that if there was a complete societal breakdown and murderous gangs roamed my streets unimpeded, they would save the ammo and just burn my house down with me in it.   Try to keep in mind that civil unrest does not equate to mass murder and lawlessness in the streets.  For every sociopathic, violent male who would exploit such a scenario, there are dozens of good people who will just be trying to survive.  Those are the folks who flee those areas and live in like minded communities.  While folks may flee heavily populated urban areas of low income and commercialism, which historically are the epicenters of these incidents, people will defend the places which they call home when there are no other places to flee to.  If things were to get so bad that the suburbs and country folks are no longer safe from large gangs of pillagers, we have bigger problems that won't be solved by a defensible structure.

after watching some of the video,again, i just realized that today, a mosque could be reported for having dead children inside, or it could be labeled as a hangout for ied suppliers and builders.The bad part is not one  bastard agency would dare kick that mosque door in to check.But our geniuses sent a fng tank through the walls of a church just "because".... :rant: , and because janet reno, aka the pugs dirty ass" "said so"...

A firearm can be shipped to an FFL for "repair" and when completed it will be shipped directly to you without the need for going through an FFL. How you ship depends on what kind of firearm it is. A long gun can be shipped using the Postal Service. A pistol cannot be shipped using the Postal Service unless the shipper has an FFL. You can ship a handgun using FedEx or UPS but you are supposed to follow their TOS.   Before sending your firearms to ANYONE for work ask for a copy of their FFL and send it to the address on the FFL. If someone cannot, or does not, want to send you their FFL avoid them like the plague. There are a lot of garage gunsmiths out there doing coating work because it is easy to do. A lot of them do not know, or do not want, an FFL even though it is a legal requirement to do any type of work for a customer. A person can make on the spot corrections, with the gun owner present, without an FFL but if the firearm is to be left then an FFL is required.   So what can happen if you send your gun to someone without an FFL? The ATF shows up and they are making their rounds to these refinishers without FFLs. Best case scenario is the refinisher gets a visit from a decent ATF agent the agent will help the refinisher fill out the appropriate forms to get an FFL and give him a warning. Worse case scenario is you get a an agent that seizes all firearms on the premises and the ATF holds them as evidence until the court case is done. And because the government works slowly this would likely take years. So you being the innocent party you would be without your firearm for years and even then I can guarantee you would have to jump through hoops to get the firearm back.   Again make sure you have an FFL in hand before sending your gun off.

I disassembled a dirt bike engine on the kitchen table.  In my defense we have two dining tables in our house and this is not the one we eat at.  Plus I put cardboard down first and it was the table that I brought into the marriage.  My wife will be home shortly, if you guys don't hear from me for a while she broke my computer or buried me in the backyard.

A gun won't protect you from Waffle House food.

About 4 months ago went to the WH on Old Hickory Blvd in Hermitage and saw the post at the door. So i walked away and went down to Stewarts Ferry and they had the same sign. I opened the door and asked the manager if they new about the sign and she said no. I told here that she needs to let her boss know that it is driving Law abiding citizens like me across the street to the Cracker Barrel. At that point i went to CB and had a much nicer meal than i would have got at WH. Checked the new WH in Donelson out about a month ago and no sign.   

I use to eat at them often till they became a Gun Free Zone an have not been in one since and won't be going back. I am slowly developing a feeling of not going back to many places that go Gun Free unless they change their minds within 30 days of the error of their ways........................jmho

  I don't want to defend David Koresh, but we have to focus on the law. If a person wants to claim they're the Messiah, that is not illegal. If people choose to follow that person, that is also not illegal. If consenting adults want to be deemed "wives" of someone and engage in intercourse, that is also not a violation of the law. Weird? Yes. Creepy? Yup. A crime? No.    With regard to the child sex abuse allegations, there are two factors. Factor one, it is not the role of the federal government (much less the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives) to investigate such matters. It falls into the hands of local and state law enforcement.    Factor Two is what actually happened; At the end of February, 1992 an investigation was opened by the State of Texas Child Protective Services. The affidavit by ex-Davidian Jeannine Bunds stated that Koresh had sex with girls as young as 11 years old, and had fathered children with girls as young as 12.    That investigation was closed in April 1992. The department's summary stated "None of the allegations could be verified. The children denied being abused in any way by adults in the compound. They denied knowledge of any other children being abused. The adults consistently denied participation in or knowledge of any abuse of children. Examinations of the children produced no indication of current or previous injuries." (Cite: Wattenburg. 'Gunning for Karesh', p. 37)   I can't say either way what was or wasn't happening in the Branch Davidian compound, but the fact is the State of Texas did not find any evidence of abuse.      The warrant brought against Koresh that resulted in the massacre was for having and manufacturing machine guns without paying the $200 tax; a tax law violation.      The siege at Waco is a very interesting moment in American history and one that is not talked about much; likely because the facts of the situation reflect very poorly on the government. Multiple books, articles, and films have been made about it. Thanks to FOIA, we have access to a lot of information now and numerous people have done a good job of breaking it down. There are so many different ways that this operation was botched from the word go that we could sit here all night discussing it and barely scratch the surface.   For anyone who wants to start digging into what really happened, I highly recommend picking up the book "No More Wacos" by David Kopel and Paul Blackman. It's a fair look at what happened, backed up with pages upon pages of cites including information from Senate hearings and other documents.

You are crazy to go to a place like that... why not take a trip to the middle east instead?   You can get thrown in prison in NJ just for being in possession of hollow point rounds, let-a-lone a gun.  Do not bring guns into MD or NJ unless you want to take a huge chance of being charged with a felony and lose your freedom for a while, as well as your gun and voting rights in all 50 states forever.

Hey guys. My mailing address is in Walker County but my employment and all my free time is spent in Tennessee so I hope this is well received. I work at Erlanger in the OR and my wife is medical too. I grew up in middle Georgia but moved around with jobs and education and am probably gonna stay here. I've lived here since 2004. I've grown up around guns my whole life and have been training with Suarez for the last couple years. I've been fortunate enough to learn from Randy in regards to getting off the X and getting tossed around by him in a 0-5 class. I started off with a Ruger .357 Police Service Six as my first handgun, moved to Glocks, am invested heavily in the 7.62x39 with AK rifles / pistols, then obtained some (cough cough) 7.62x54 guns, then just got into the AR based pistols. That about covers my calibers. I love the outdoors and spending time with my family (wife and two labradoodles). I CC when I can and have other items when I can't...its hard to conceal in scrubs and you can imagine that doesn't go over well in the employment arena. I am a member of CRC range.   I joined because I know two posters and they recommended the site. It looks to be a great forum and I like how most of the information on here is pertinent to my location. I hope to be an active contributor and continue learning. Thanks guys.

I'm not calling the accuser a liar but if there's no witnesses and it's his word against Zimmermans it just hearsay. If Zimmerman is acting like that it wont be long before he's jailed or someone shoots him. I think I am going to pick one up as well. I have an M85 and an M92 but like the idea of the 7.5" AK for a truck gun.   BTW, the bottom picture is NOT a Draco. It is a M92. You can tell by the muzzle device and the angled rear of the receiver.

This. It's happened to quite a few people here. And if you don't deal with it, it will happen again. Contact the county clerk or the court clerk where the offense occurred and see if the disposition is being reported.  

Did you use SSN on the 4473? If so, then reason is almost always because some charge doesn't show proper disposition, whether it were a disqualifying one or not.   Do you have HCP? Reason I ask is because likely same glitch would have surfaced with background check for it.   And btw, that "patron state of shooting stuff" is significantly overblown, coined by Stephen Hunter after all, and he's from Kansas. ;)   - OS

56 ford is on the money. The other part is there was a claim that a complaint made that kids from the compound were observed playing on the dangerous busy highway. I'm here to tell u, I've been to the compound. There is no traffic in that part of Waco. It sent a chill through my body to see burned kiddie bikes and branch davidians still holding services in a makeshift tent.....burned plastic dollies and other kids items. The whole op was complete bullshit. And always will be. Prayers for the children who died a painful death on that fateful day...

  Another reason why I stick with Glock. Having been a Glock Armorer for over 15 years (at work, I'm responsible for about 100 of them), I can tell you that they're about the easiest SD pistol to work on (hell, if I can do it...).

The "conversion kits" were nothing more than spare parts kits not unlike what a lot of us may have today. Nothing automatic about them. In the days/ weeks leading up the the raid, Koresh regularly went into town, dined at a local restaurant, and even invited the ATF officers out. He had always willingly complied with local LEO, and there was no reason to believe he would not comply with the ATF. However, just as you said the ATF was in a spot because the future funding of their organization was being debated in Congress at the time. They needed a show, they needed to "prove" their necessity. Hell, they even nicknamed the raid "showtime" and broke a laundry list of laws during the execution of the raid before murdering innocent people.

That is what I like about where I live. My neighbor directly in front of me is a retired former Special Forces Ranger served in Iraq and his house if fortified and has outside camera's with monitors inside. My house is made of Concrete Blocks all the way to the roof. I have security lighting that lights up my yards like a foot ball field and makes my targets easy to see at night. Jack up front and I have a plan and we do have a buzzer connected to each others house so if one needs help there is only a door separating my house from his and this is an L shaped triplex with me in the rear. He and I have been planning for a SHTF situation and they may get both of us but we ain't going quietly and there will be some dead along with us..............................jmho

  I'd say you don't want to be doubling back if you can help it. One way or the other will likely be jammed up. If you're serious about this, get some radios for communication (phones may be cut) and have a meeting place on the way to your destination (which may be one or the other of your places of work depending on circumstances). Things would be likely to get worse over time so you want to make every minute of the safest and easiest travel times count. And pack a good pair of shoes and a map, you may be walking.

Mine's not quite that nice, I had to use a manhole cover for my lid    But it's a TACTICAL manhole cover! :rock:
