  2. My first wife died of cancer when she was 38 years old. She had melanoma which eventually metastasized to her lungs, liver, then her brain. We fought it as hard and as long as we were able. We saw doctors in Santa Monica and tried new chemo protocols but in the end, we all knew she was terminal. I found out when we got the results of the MRI of her brain, but I never chose to tell her exactly how long the doctors had given her to live. My fear was if she heard how short her time was thought to be, she might give up and quit believing, quit fighting. I simply didn't want her to stop fighting. I needed her to live, our 10 year old daughter needed her to live, as did all of her family. It was not easy. In the end she was unable to do anything for herself and she relied upon me for the simplest and most personal things. I loved her greatly and would have done anything possible to extend her life just a few more hours, or to make her the slightest bit more comfortable. Was I selfish? Perhaps. I know it's hard to believe, but through twenty one years together both dating, and in marriage, my wife and I were never closer as a couple than in her final months and days, battling her disease together. Watching the strength and grace with which she lived her life was and has been an inspiration to me to this day. While it was tough seeing her slowly losing her ability to fight, the closeness we shared during those days will never be forgotten. I do not regret a single moment, or a single decision, and I rest easy knowing my wife died after fighting the good fight, and running the good race. My own personal experience tells me this young lady may have chosen the day and the hour of her death, but in so doing she may have missed out some very special moments with her family, moments they may someday wish they had to remember. Sometimes the simplest joys of life truly come from being in the midst of the storm with those we love the most. May God rest her soul.

  8. Big wow here too! Even though it's about half again more than I've paid for any knife previously, I'd be pleased to carry it, but I've pretty well got delicate (Buck Stockman) to brutal (Cold Steel XL Voyager) covered with EDC. So this will just be a fine niche collectible for me I think.   It's so nice to have at least one high end blade, and one that signals the change in TN's knife law and also has a custom meaningful logo are big icings on the cake. Really a stellar classy shiv!   I add my sincere thanks for your efforts in this, Mr. Cutting. I mean, Willis. ;)   - OS

  9. As to CCP I'm all for it if it is essentially SSP and ESP for short guns. They mentioned single actions were legal so that means a Para Ord P12 or a Glock 19 would be OK. I have no problem with that. Like I said, it might be good to see more compact pistols at IDPA matches since most folks are going to shoot the biggest easiest to shoot gun they can to be competitive. As such you see all the G34s in SSP and full size 9mm 1911s in ESP. I doubt 2% of the people shooting SSP with a 34 or ESP with a full size 1911 REALLY carry that in everyday life. What do most carry? A G19 or MP compact or XD compact or something similar. This would create a division for folks who want to be competitive with their real carry gun and not have to shoot it against a G34 or a 5" 9mm 1911. Now, having said that, I actually DO carry a full size pistol concealed on my person( G17 or a G34) in everyday life. But most people do not.    And I'd even be OK with allowing some minor mods. A little stippling on the grip of your otherwise box stock G19 should not force you shoot against $3000 STI 9mm 1911s. As it stands now, stipple your glock and you get sentenced to Enhanced Service Pistol to shoot against 40 oz single action 1911s in 9mm........ But that is a different subject.....   How IDPA can screw this all up is to make G19 and SW MP compacts legal in same category as people would be shooting their back up guns like the Khar PM9 or their SW Shield or SW J frame. The only way to make a shield competitive with a G19 is to make the round count low enough to negate the capacity advantage of the G19. And that would just make this a ridiculous exercise in "fairness" not anything even remotely realistic. NO ONE downloads their G19 to 5 rounds.......Keep the BUG category and limit the round counts to make J frames and Shields and G26s "more equal" but don't allow G19s in ...that would just be ridiculous.    So keep the BUG as a separate thing and use CCP as a means of getting people to shoot the guns they are REALLY carrying (IF they actually carry guns in real life but that is a pet peeve for another time....)

  21. I think Carol got caught on purpose but not because they saw Beth being taken in. I think Darrell and Carol met up with the black guy that  made the escape and he told them what was going on and figured out Beth was there. They may have been watching it after following the car they took off after that night thinking Beth was there anyway.

  23. ABSOLUTELY eat what you store.  ROTATE! ROTATE! ROTATE!   The local Food Lion went out of business recently.  50% or more off everything.  Filled a buggy with canned stuffs.  Local Fred's ran Chef Boyardee Ravioli for 40¢ a can too.  Keep several flats of everything.     Use a sharpie to put the purchase date on the top of the can as well as the expiration date.  The dang expiration date can be a pain to read on some brands.  Take the time to clearly mark it and it'll motivate you to keep everything rotated.

  24. I would like to have a law passed that would make CCW permit holders exempt from background checks (NICS) since the permit already verifies that we are able to own a firearm.  Since the NICS is only supposed to be a verification of legality to own and no other purpose, then a CCW permit makes it obsolete.   Thoughts?

  26. Yep, in love already. Years and years ago, I picked up a few Glocks, thought they were black 2x4's and never got interested. I respected the name just because of reviews, just didn't like the feel. Recently checked out my friends Gen 4 Glock 23 and really liked it. I started looking at new ones, then used ones, and comparing my options. I ran across a good deal today on a used one and bought it from a guy who is not on here, but I invited him. I think he will fit in great and love the community as we all do. So anyway, the one thing I wasn't sure about was the fact that he'd polished the slide and barrel. I was afraid it would look chrome-ish. But it actually looks pretty good. Still debating on whether it will stay that way or get cerakoted, refinished through Glock, or something else. It's kinda slick, but looks good. I also got 3 mags, two holsters, and 100 rounds of ammo. Bad news....My wife likes it more than I hoped she would so I may not even get to give a range report

  27. I have recently traced my heritage back to see if any of my ancestors fought during the civil war. Lucky for me I found a few, on both sides of the family, fighting not only for both sides, but fighting each other as well. Well, long story short, one of my ancestors qualified me to become a member of the sons of confederate veterans. Which now has me interested in civil war arms. So , my question to those in the know. Where do I start to look for the type of arms used? I know 1851 navy revolveres and 1860 springfiends were used by the union and confederates. I know that enfields were used mostly by the confederates. But where to find these and what do I look for? I'm not afraid of replicas. I know that uburti makes some fine replicas, as does pietta. I have considered reenactments, so something that looks and feels the part would add to the allure of that period of history. I also know that i am going to open up a whole new can of worms, meaning that i will need powder, caps, lead for the boolits ect. I have the will, just need the direction. Thanks in advance. I hope to learn from any information y'all give.

Haslam has his lobbyist ready to disperse at a moment's notice.  Would pass overwhelmingly in the Senate, and strangle to death in Finance in the House, every time!  As long as Harwell and Ramsey are covering the Presidential candidate's six, nothing like that will proceed to the floor.

I read your post ... nothing is getting celebrated ...its HER decision to end her own life.. seems that all her family was Ok with it and came to terms with it..thats what makes it easier.. planned vs  a sudden death is very different..I hope I can plan my own death when I see fit..I am hoping my loved ones understand and are not seflish enough to keep me with them when I am in so much pain and cant bear it any longer..Sometimes loving someone very much means having to let go.

  49. Never thought I would own a Glock.  I'm a "revolver guy".  Disliked all semi-autos since I had jamming problems with Colt, Springfield, Sig, two 1911's...just a "revolver guy" because they are dependable and I don't like worrying about whether the gun will fire when I need it.  But for some odd reason I got to thinking I wanted a Glock (crazy, I know) and so I started doing my research.  I had shot a few Glocks in the past, all of the .40's including the 35, but I really was intrigued by the 9mm ballistics because they appeared to be better than the .38 +P I was carrying around in my little 5-round revolver.  Well, after some research, I purchased a Glock 19, Generation 4.  Still skeptical, I went to TAC in Knoxville and put 220 rounds downrange without any issues other than a blister on the top of my thumb.  The gun was flawless in every way.  My problem may have been that I installed the biggest backstrap and beavertail on the gun and it caused me to rotate my hand around to reach the trigger, and the recoil slammed the beavertail down into the bone/knuckle on top of my thumb.  So, now I have removed the backstrap and I'm going to bare Gen 4 (which may be smaller than even the Gen 3?).  Anyway, the gun works.  The person at PDO in Knoxville where I purchased it said it would be pretty much jam free because it was a Glock.  So, I now have a leather holster (DeSantis) and I'm planning on carrying the Glock 19.  Not much bigger than the revolvers and it holds 15 rounds...and the Speer Gold Dot 124 grain +P has about 410 ft-kb of energy.  I'm thinking I may like this setup.  I'm not 100% ready to say I'm now a Glock person, but maybe I can be a "revolver + Glock" person.   Best Wishes, B
