  1. This worked. I put one on both cars and both kept the cardinal away. The CDs on the plate glass windows were less successful, but 2 out of 3 worked. I'll put a second CD on the window she likes best and see if that works. At least both cars are now clean.

  2. I popped one once with a pellet gun in my backyard. Knocked him from high out of the tree. It was a mistake. Within seconds dozens appeared and all started squalking....extra loud. Thought I was gonna have to move at that very second. Neighbors were coming out their doors and small children started running. Those birds have some weird mojo.

  3. I'm not turning the outside of my house into Fred Sanford's place just to chase off the occasional gutterpecker.

  4. Let's see if this works. It's a smartphone suction mount with zip ties to hold the CD far enough away from the car to rotate in the breeze.

  6. Been scarce around here because of school, work, and this demonic pond project. Cheapest bid from a contractor was quoted at $4,000 +/- (which we all know would have been 25% more after they started). Highest bid was $11,000. I said screw a bunch of that, watched some videos on youtube and figured out how to do it myself. The pond was just trashy looking, it had probably close to 5 tons of river boulders piled up around the edge (contractor was probably laughing all the way to the bank after installing it). My disabled ass removed literally everything except a single boulder (can't move it, it's too big - used a 7" stone cutter to cut rings around it, drilled holes, used a sledge and chisels, and even (literally) melted a bit behind a 70# jackhammer and the damn thing wouldn't crack). Employing some neighbors for plan B on it Wednesday. Brought in 2 tons of flat rock to replace it with. Anywho, in at a total of $825 for everything and that includes some new tools/toys I had to buy. Looks pretty good now, just needs some plants to soften it up and some in the pond to provide shade for the koi. This is it mid-project (forgot to take before pic) And today: No more projects this year. Am done with doing anything except mowing lol.

  7. Really dropped the ball, planted 12" pants 2 weeks ago. Low effort this year, trying 2 plants, patio barrels. Plus cilantro and basil. Not going to survive the Apocalypse, but we should have a few tomato sandwiches and salsa

  8. Look up crow traps. They make kinds you can catch a bunch in at once. If you do, then you can dispose of, relocate, or cook them up.

  9. Got my first classified notification via email today! It was only one, and I'm sure other stuff was posted in the same time frame in the other categories i have selected, but hopes are high that it's fixed. Thanks for all the hard work!

  10. Crows are some smart birds, study was done on them. Seems the bird can count. http://www.cappersfarmer.com/humor-and-nostalgia/crows-can-count---at-least-to-16

  11. I'd prefer the crows. Not much of a cat person.

  14. Probably using the gutter as a hard surface against which to open seeds or nuts. Same at my house as well, though it's not always woodpeckers. Some other seed eating birds will do the same thing. As mentioned, CD's, pie pans, strips of foil... anything reflective will help keep them away. Our resident Cooper's hawk snacks at our feeders pretty regularly too. It's cool to see. One thing you might do to help with the window impacts is to move the feeders a bit. The hawks will dive from a high point toward the feeders. They're also very prone to target fixation and simply will not see what's beyond their prey. If your windows are in line with the feeders and tall trees or other high points, they will come crashing in. Moving the feeders even a few feet could help that considerably.

  15. Lol! Last night, he discovered that there were two witness marks where the microphone plugs into the headset. They weren't aligned. Fixed that and it worked like a charm.

  19. Thank you for the explanation MikeG. I know reading about WLS in this thread sure pulled a string in my heart. Of course I haven't thought of that in a very long time. It's impossible to explain to the younger generations the simple joys we had so long ago. Mom's delicious, but simple breakfast of bacon and eggs when school was out in summer. Hitting the door as soon as that was over to swim or fish in the creek or maybe play army in the woods. Maybe play cork ball with a taped up fishing cork and a broom handle, or ride bikes to a local store where you could get a bottle of Coca Cola, an ice cream sandwich AND a bag of peanuts all for 25 cents. We'd hit the woods and hunt Blue Jays and black birds with a BB gun, but we'd better not shoot a robin, red bird or song bird and let our parents find out.......I do know my dad was a woodsman and said the Blue Jays ate other birds eggs and Black Birds were a nuisance so there ya go. Simple times long gone. Like listening to WLS after going to bed.

  20. Ignorant cardinals and robins pecking on windows beats the hell out of woodpeckers going to town on the gutters! I have no ideas what those demons think they'll get out of aluminum on Saturday or Sunday mornings when I'm trying to sleep.

  21. This bill was passed through both the state house and state senate and will go to the governor's office. If everyone with a permit could get unrestricted carry, I wouldn't have the problem that I do with this bill. I also was under the impression that the DA's could go to the sheriff's departments and get special police commissions to carry when working. This is nothing but politicians helping politicians get carry rights that most people with permits cannot get.

  23. The law became effective in 2014 if I'm not mistaken. The gentleman that was told that veiled threat by the Morristown officer, should report him to the state's D.A. for "further education" in the laws he's supposed to be enforcing. It's said that ignorance of the law is no defense...that should be tripled for law enforcement! Three years on the books should be quite enough time for L.E. to get accustomed to it. 24. Well I will get flack on this, but bad parenting is just that. I taught mine at a very young age not to touch a hot stove. No I did not put their hand on a hot stove, we taught them what hot is. Firearms are the same way, do not touch. Visiting kids parents were giving a talk about what their kids knew. We knew the parents well and their kids to. I dont care how well you keep stuff up and away and locked up, a kid will find a way to get at it. When someone new to us comes over we pull them to the side and tell the parents that their child is to be kept a very close eye on. We have a pool, way more danger then a firearm. Being a good parent is very tuff, not something to be made lite of. Some parents think it is OK to let a kid run wild, not in my house, all kids become mine in my house. I am not saying I just leave a firearm laying around. They are accessible to a point and they are loaded.

  25. My nod to the .44, I've put yotes down with those big bullets every time. Not always the case with my .17, sometimes it did, and sometimes it didn't. Then I got my .221 Fireball and it works every time!
