I have an idea for a storm shelter.
hipower replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Survival and Preparedness
That's a bit small for me. lol Although it is literally small for me...I'd be trying to tear myself out in just a few minutes. My claustrophobia would be in full blown panic mode when that door shut. Where we live now, flooding would also be a concern. Pretty much the lowest spot on the street, so all runoff hits us. Now if we move, the storm shelter/safe room combo is what I'd want to do. Mentally, I've built up the image of something like an 8x8 room. Maybe a bit of overkill, but when you add more than 2 people, a few tools, weapons, and a bit of food and water; I think I'd like the extra space. But that's all conjecture at this point. Doesn't look like we will be moving anytime soon. -

Laugh all you want. He means it! That's the price of!! -
Good choices. I've had the 597 and let it go. Bad move on my part. And still want a 617, just not willing to pay for one. But as consolation prize...I do have a Taurus Tracker 22 that's fun. lol Really.

Hozzie, you're asking too much of me! Only one of each! Wow. That's a tough one. As for pistol...a tossup You decide. lol A HS Olympic in 22 short or a Ruger 22/45 with a <2" barrel and a cheap can. Both are amazing. Rifle. Man that's a bit easier. A 10/22 with a Green Mountain Target Barrell and pretty much all Volquartzen internals. I got it from Dolomite a few years back. A very sweet shooter. Absolutely love it with a can!

I have reservations about the carry coverage deals as well. Mostly...would they pay out at all to defend me. As RED333 opins, will a DA try to get you on the idea insurance coverage? Will your choice of carry gun get you slated for more trouble? Stock firearm vs custom/modified? Does your carry have fierce or menacing name? How about your choice of ammo? Is it what local cops use, or some ultra bad, demonized HP with a fancy or scary name? Yeah, I'm not really adding anything new to this, discussion. I just wanted to give my thoughts.

I don't know. That's the honest answer. The situation would dictate what I might, or might not, do. I pray I never have to find out. That being said, with there we live, there's always a possibility I might have to find the answer within myself someday. Kharman, if you don't mind, when did you take Buford's class? As near as my feeble mind can remember around 1998 for me. And I just ran across the completion certificate a couple weeks ago. But didn't really pay attention to the date.

Welcome, Miss Brenda. As an old Tn redneck, I'm always glad to see a woman interested in firearms...whether it be for protection or for recreation. In either case, as the above guys have said, practice and familiarity is the key to safe and responsible firearms use and ownership.

Yes, and probably other things as well amongst them.

Looks like about a 50/50 split on getting or not...IF a vaccine was made available. I'm sort of leaning(at this moment) to the "No...I'll wait and see" side of the question. But that's only because I'm in a high risk grouping, with multiple risk factors against me. Time will tell. I just pray it's a short time and will be good news.

Short of test fire, I wonder if there's any way of knowing which batch of 15 round mags have the +10% springs. I've fired and got great results from the 10 round mags, but haven't been able to go out with the 3 15s I have. BTW, I have a silver slide model as well. What do you know of any differences in them from the black slide models?

Very interesting thread. It does show a picture of the community. One that I sort of suspected. Of course a poll of only 19 probably isn't a true representation of this entire group. Sort of like most polls, can be slanted with questions, and interpreted in many ways. But off track, so of the 19 so far, 7 are retired in some form. A third of us are old geezers. I knew it!

And I say "Thank You" for it every chance I get. To you and all the others who stand in the way of danger and darkness for the rest of us... Thank You and May God Bless and Keep you safe, one and all.

If this is her...I'll consider the marriage proposal. Wonder if she and my wife would be open to a new household arrangement?

My first AR was an Olympic that my brother-in-law gave me one day in a fit of kindness. Sorta resembles current styles, but more an early mall ninja model. All kinds of things hanging off it. lol Rail light, Aimpoint knock off, magnifier, cheapo stock and sling, and a couple sets of taped together mags. I think he may have either ashamed of it or just didn't like me at the time. I still have it. Don't think it's been shot in years. Might break it out when we can all go shoot somewhere again.

How about if the stacks are equal? lol As a devote Sam's Club buyer...I've always bought the bulk packages of TP and PT. Wife thought my family upbringing and stocking was crazy. Not anymore.

Thanks for the comments. If I can get out, and if find store open, I'll be sampling it. BTW Will liquor stores be open> Considered "Essential?" LOL

OK...question time. I've searched and found a few references to Tullamore Dew, and Irish Whiskey in several forms. I'd like to know a little about it, if anyone has a comment. I ran across the name whilst trying to write a witty Irish style toast for my brother-in-law's birthday. Actually, I butchered and cobbled together some lines from standard Irish toasts and added a few lines of my own for flavor and to personalize it. Anyway, I worked Tullamore Dew into a few lines and think it came out good. So that led me to start wondering about tasting it. lol Not much of a drinker, but this has piqued my interests...and made my tasted buds wish to sample it. Supposedly some Nashville area liquor stores have it(some) available, and I'll risk a drive Monday to see what's out there. BTW, I'd post the toast here, as I'm sorta proud of it, but as it's pretty personal, and sadly probably going to be his last birthday, I won't. It did have my wife in tears, so I guess I did something right. I've been told I can sometimes write/tell a good story. But it's mostly just being a good manure spreading artist. Anyway...comments/recommendations are always appreciated.

I like it! But the...I like LEGAL SBR style pistols and rifles. This looks by the letter of BATFE, as I understand it...legal.

Been seeing that as well. Falls under the "Too good to be true" heading for me. On the other hand...it sure looks interesting!

LOL! Just that we old farts are full of totally useless information. I can walk by the tv and with a 90%+ rate of correctness; name old movie titles and actors. It drives my wife crazy. On the other hand, I can't remember squat about important things anymore. Like first date with wife, family members, etc. Heck, next I'll be forgetting her birthday and our wedding date!

Yes. One of cheesiest of the multitude of flying saucer movies of the 50s/early 60s, but good saucers. I think I must have watched every one made. If I remember correctly, the gun fired a sort of high frequency, concentrated sound wave to disrupt the saucer's internal mechanisms and cause them to crash.
