  1. My thought is that the "cocked and locked" comes from several (old) things...   - The exposed hammer and the idea that the gun could discharge if dropped on the exposed hammer.    - Single action guns (revolvers) that simply wouldn't fire at all until the hammer was manually cocked (in addition to the drop issue)   - History with lots of botched trigger jobs that made 1911's unsafe.  Its pretty easy to screw one up if you don't know what you're doing.    - Carrying a gun with the exposed hammer in the full cock position just looks dangerous and sexy.    The XD has a trigger safety in addition to the grip safety and no exposed hammer.  The nature of the striker fired design is such that he gun is half cocked anytime a round is in the chamber so there's no DA/SA trigger pull difference that some folks get so excited about.
  2. Nice pics and thanks for the processing info. I wondered how you got such sharp images from a phone. Hand held or do you have a gorilla pod type base?
  3. Lots of brands do that now, some made here and some made in China. Be curious to know the source of the steel in the US made versions.
  4. Interesting. I wrote a check for $50 and they cashed it.

    Dollywood

Yes, Dollywood was Silver Dollar City. She bought it in 1986. I didn't realize it's been there since 1961. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dollywood
  6. I did the free trial thing a few years ago.  Got my Dad's side of the family back 9 generations to the generation that was born in England and came across the pond in the mid 1700's.  That was pretty interesting.  Got basically zip on my Mom's side of the family, less than what people currently living knew.  I think the majority of the info on my Dad's family was dug up by one of my aunts a number of years ago.
  7. I also want to be left the hell alone while at the range.  It's my "me time" and I don't get much of that.  A little friendly conversation is fine, otherwise piss off.  :)     At the same, given the number of mouth breathing imbeciles I've seen, I'd much prefer they not be handling their weapons while I'm down range.  You never know who's hunting rifle has a home spun "2lb" trigger job with negative engagement so severe it'll discharge if the snail under the bench farts.           This is genius.
  8. I see mine in that pic.  :woohoo:
  9. This weekend was fantastic.  We spend the entire afternoon yesterday playing with the kids and we all got nicely sun burned as a result.  :)  Looks like we've got a whole week of rain to recover.  :-\
  10. Noise will be your biggest issue.  An adequate backstop will be the next most important.   My parents live in Soddy Daisy.  It's a nice little suburb of Chattanooga, and the sound of gun fire on a nice weekend isn't exactly unusual.  But as with most any area, you'll have to be outside the city limits to do any shooting.
  11. I renewed mine by mail a month or two ago.  I just filled out the form and mailed it with a check.  The check likely being the most important part.
  12. Hope you got some road time in this weekend. I got to chase the little one around the yard for about 20 minutes.
  13. Wow. There's really some sorry people in this world. He'll get his.

    Dollywood

Been there a bunch. My kids love it. Plenty of rides, shows, and games for most all kids. Typically some good live music being played. Various crafts people making stuff (blacksmith, leather smith, carriage shop). Yep, it's expensive (food, parking, souvenirs, ...) But no more so than any other similar park. Very crowded at the typical times (weekends, holidays, etc.). I don't mean to offend anyone, but Splash Country can be white trash central. Some things can't be unseen...
  15. Nice knife. How is that belt attachment supposed to work?
  16. That's exactly what I first thought... Burl. Very nice!
  17. Harrison Bay Eagle Cam (near Chattanooga)....    http://harrisonbayeaglecam.org/
  18. Has much less to do with the relative hardness of the holster as it does the worn slap out-ness of the holster and lazy/cheapness of it's owner for either not recognizing the problem, fixing it, or both.
  19.     Agreed.  He's a very accomplished pilot.  Engine failure immediately following take-off is just about the worst case scenario.  I'm impressed that he got it turned around and found a soft spot to put it down.  Those airplanes aren't very good gliders, I'd bet it was falling like a rock.
  20. Yep. Should be fine by tomorrow afternoon.
  21.           Rustoleum, Krylon, ...  whatever.   Accuracy may improve a bit with use as the lead from the bullets should fill in the pitting to some extent.
  22. A broken Glock...  :stunned:    :screwy:     :panic:          :)   I presume they'll just send you a new slide.
  23. If you guys have other suggestions on how to keep bermuda from coming back, I'm all ears.  I've found nothing else that works.
  24.   Yes, asphalt.  I don't know about dirt drags.   This works for me...    http://www.mtdragway.com/
  25. Back in the day (aka... 15-20 years ago), Buffalo Valley and I-40 (Crossville) dragstrips would let ATV's run on "test & tune" nights if you just wanna go play.  They weren't allowed to bracket race.  I think I-40 is closed though.  Probably best to call and ask.   http://www.mtdragway.com/
