Gun Control Supporters Unhinged: New Republic Says "Ban Guns— All of Them"

Recommended Posts

Inspired by last week’s New York Times front-page editorial calling for the confiscation of “large categories of weapons and ammunition,” a new article in the progressive-agenda magazine, New Republic, says that banning only some guns, but not all, is not enough. “It’s time to ban guns. Yes, all of them. . . . Get rid of guns in homes, and on the streets, and, as much as possible, on police. . . . Not just certain guns. Not just already-technically-illegal guns. All of them.”

Objectionable though they are, there’s nothing new about the Times’ and New Republics’ anti-gun opinions per se, however. It’s not news that some gun control supporters want all guns banned. It’s been that way for years. The difference is, gun control supporters used to pretend they were interested only in “reasonable” and “commonsense” gun control restrictions. Now they are telling everyone what they have always really wanted.

Things sure have changed. Consider the difference in the tactics of Democrat presidential candidates over the last several elections. When they were running for president, Bill Clinton, John Kerry and even Barack Obama tried to assuage voters’ concerns about their positions on guns by posing for photographs holding shotguns.

In 2008, Hillary Clinton did the same sort of thing in her run for the Democratic presidential nomination. CNN reported Clinton saying at the time, “You know, my dad took me out behind the cottage that my grandfather built on a little lake called Lake Winola outside of Scranton and taught me how to shoot when I was a little girl.”

But running for the Democrat nomination today, Clinton says that gun control opponents are like terrorists and shouldn’t be allowed to have their opinions. Asked during a debate with fellow Democrat candidates “which enemy are you most proud of,” Clinton responded, “the NRA,” along with “Republicans” and several others.

Time magazine note
s, Clinton is “calling for a ‘national movement’ to ‘stand up to the NRA’ and lambasting Republicans for voting against gun control legislation.” It quotes Clinton saying, “What is wrong with us, that we cannot stand up to the NRA and the gun lobby, and the gun manufacturers they represent? We need to act and we need to build a movement.”

It’s easy to see how things have changed. But why have they changed? For one thing, since his reelection, President Obama has dropped his pro-gun pretenses, coming out strongly for banning “assault weapons” and magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, requiring background checks on private sales, and banning the purchase of firearms by anyone on secret government lists.  Where an anti-gun president will go, his anti-gun adherents will certainly follow.

However, Time says the reason for the change in anti-gun tactics is even bigger than that. “The Democratic Party at large has shifted,” it says. Moreover, “gun control advocates are more organized and better-funded than at any time in at least the last two decades. Groups such as Everytown for Gun Safety, bankrolled by billionaire Michael Bloomberg, and Americans for Responsible Solutions, former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ super PAC, are spending millions to counteract the NRA.” Anti-gun college professor Adam Winkler adds, “Democrats are starting to believe that a strong statement on gun control will motivate the [Democrat] base.”

Apparently, gun control supporters think this is their time in history, that they have the momentum, and that their victory is inevitable. Then again, something on the order of 100 million American adults, living in just under half of American households, own well over 300 million guns, including well over 100 million handguns and easily well over 10 million detachable-magazine semi-automatic rifles, such as the AR-15, which gun control supporters call “assault weapons.” And FBI data indicate that the annual number of gun purchases has been greater during the last four years than ever before.

If gun control supporters are unhinged now, imagine the state they will be in if that many gun owners come together to defeat Hillary Clinton and awake them from their anti-gun dreams on Election Day 2016.

I say bring it.   The slow erosion of rights with partial bans and illegal laws is killing us.   Bring a full ban to the table.    It won't pass ...   the last few years have been more pro than anti in terms of actual laws and changes.   Let the cowards show their true colors and finally take the stand.  And lose big when they realize no one outside of a few complete morons want this.   But first, lets implement their strategy piecemeal.  First disarm the police so we can be assured that the government isn't trying to turn into a police state.   Yes, lets start there ... :)

Then all they have to do is get 2A repealed, eh? Then the rest would be a piece of cake.

If you are a student of history many of the elements that lead up to the civil war have been coming into place over the past several years, just as they did in the 10-15 years leading up to 1861. One thing in particular that makes me think is the potential republican establishment tinkering with the election process as they seek to eliminate Trump and Cruz. Here in TN A. Lincoln wasn't even on the ballot in 1860, so imagine finding out later someone has become president that wasn't even on the ballot? It was the same in many other southern states. So what if you have a lot of people who like and vote for Trump and or Cruz during the primary only to have the republican establishment via hi jinks at the convention, see to it that some rino like Rubio or Bush ends up being the nominee? Not too much different than what happened some 150 years ago. Combine all the other crap that we've endured over the past 7 years, dissing of the constitution etc. and there is liable to be some pretty upset folks.

Have those folks got the backbone to stand up and fight back?

So let's see, you think that we'll have civil war between "the people" and The Republican National Committee? Or who? Who will "we" go after en masse with our armed citizen army?

Hillary talks about the "NRA and the powerful gun manufacturers lobby" That's one of the biggest lies that keeps getting repeated over and over.  The power of the NRA is it's 5 million voting members, not a powerful gun manufacturers lobby.  You won't find any gun manufacturers on Forbes fortune 500 list.  Liberals just say that to frighten people.

The truth is that their are around 100 million registered voters in this country who keep and bare arms. When push comes to shove, those 100 million will do the right thing. I know plenty of liberals who have armed themselves since 2008.

It's the festering lack of hope that eventually boils over. Lack of hope on a variety of fronts from doctored elections whether it be through direct tinkering or indirect with the huge political PACS that subvert the system to the detriment of the people. From the seemingly unimpeded influx of outsiders into our country by those who care little about the American way of life but instead prefer to bring their culture here and gripe about all things American and yell bigotry to anyone who challenges them. To the ever increasing trampling of our God given rights enshrined and protected by the constitution yet condemned by those who have been elected to represent and uphold it. Those are the things that fester.

The "radical republicans" of the 1860s brought about the conflict to oppose the disgruntled segment of the country that saw no hope going forward. The south took the only peaceful option before them, withdraw from the union.

One of the big differences today is that we have become far removed from what this country was founded on. 150 years ago their grandfathers had fought King George, and they heard first person accounts and knew the price paid by their ancestors and were not willing to give in when an overbearing government stepped in. Where are we today in opposing another overbearing government? Have we moved beyond remembering or caring? This does not happen overnight, but I believe it is festering and unless there is something to begin to let off some of the steam there will be backlash. Certainly for a number of us dirty tricks behind the scenes to put a rino at the top of the ticket would not let off any steam.

I get all that. But my question is specific: what will be this next civil war you foresee? What are the sides?  Who are the participants on each side?

And what would kick it off, assassination hit list, states seceding again, a thousand good ole boys storming DC, military coup, or what? And what's the actual end goal?

The anti gun grabbers are always unhinged about something and they will remain unhinged.................jmho

Something we were all aware of for a long time, liberal socialist gun control freaks have always wished to disarm everyone in America for a long time. I had to shake my head in disbelief at how some people are stupid/naive enough to actually think Obama doesn't want to take all our guns away, he wants all our guns like Hillary, Bloomberg, Schumer, Feinstein, Pelosie and probably a big list of RINO's although many RINO's wont dare go against the NRA unless they are elected in a liberal state. Something we are all aware of also, it's always been really about people control so the only thing that surprises me is that there is a gun/people control group that was honest enough to admit what they have really wanted for a long time. So when a group says we want to take away all your guns, the only answer is, yea, we know that but you can't have them.

Of course not.  It has to be a slow erosion just like with health care.  They couldn't come right out and say individual health insurance is illegal and we're going to single payer, they had to write legislation that would slowly kill the private sector and now look at the "progress" in just a few years.  :shake:

Ban whatever they want.  We'll just make more!

Europe has very strict gun control.  France is among the strictest.  Somehow, terrorists didn't have any trouble getting a whole bunch of AKs.

In the '80's a German farmer told me that most rural German families had a 'little something' hidden away from WWII.  Gun control will have the same effect here.

The author of the New Republic article is some smarmy hipster chick who lives in Toronto... wtf does she know about guns or US issues anyway? She only wishes she was American.

Phoebe Maltz Bovy?? Hopefully she will be the one to personally initiate the door-to-door confiscation process? Or not.

Looking at her smirk, I think I just threw up a little in my mouth. Not exactly somebody I'd want to wake up next to after a drunken party...

If the left is scared of ISIS, let them ban all firearms, and see how they like what happens next...  Only problem is it would make something Obama said true, it would make ISIS look like the JV squad.

I know there are a couple guys here that are shall we say anti-confederate. That is fine.

Now on the war of northern aggression many think everyone who wore the gray was fighting to protect slavery. They are not aware most Yankees did not want to end slavery, were more racist than most southerners and did not want blacks in the north. They often are not aware the vast majority who fought for the south did not own slaves ( like 95% or more) on top of that a key issue was simply people not liking Yankees telling us how to run our lives.

Now they think we fought a four year, brother against brother war over slavery? What do they think we would do over trying to fool with our guns? Hell lots of Yankees would be joining us from places like PA and western NY.

I think they will be getting a southern welcome they soon won't forget. On top of that you have a nation that is letting illegal immigration go on uncontrolled as well as third world immigration eroding our culture. They really think people will stand by for that?

No need to lower your standards.

She gets laid good she might relax and get out of all that gun stuff. I have found that woman who are upiddy tend to be sexually frustrated.

If that theory holds water, then judging by her "aren't I more clever than you" photo above, she must be a virgin.

The picture below (recently posted on TTAG) reinforces my point. It pretty much relays the attitude that the only person in the world that she gives two sh*ts about is the person in her bathroom mirror. I've never understood people who seem to be perpetually angry at the World, yet refuse to recognize that 95% of their own problems are self-initiated.
