The Titanic sails again

Would you sail on it?   I'm used to boats that sink, so I think I'd give it a try.  :D

Planned by Blue Star Line, the Titanic II will stick to the incredible detail of the original ship which sank in 1912

Titanic II's launch has been pushed back to 2018, with a maiden voyage planned from Jiangsu, China, to Dubai

Amenities include a small swimming pool, Turkish baths, a gym with Edwardian equipment and a squash court

I wonder if anyone else noticed that the passenger capacity would be 2,435, the crew at 900, but the lifeboat capacity at only 2,700. That means 635 people had better be good swimmers.

I can't say I know much about cruise ship profitability, but I think it may struggle to make money. Ships today carry a whole lot more people. You could make the argument that T2 will be focused on the uber-wealthy, but I just don't see them buying tickets for this. They'll have their own private yachts that can handle the high seas, something that the 1920's wealthy didn't really have.

Yes, I saw that...and if you see the post I made in the comments for that article, I did miss that point.

But I did mention the possibility of tempting fate by taking a voyage on the Titanic (II).

Would you? I'm not sure. Even though it's pointless, money wise, for me to think of it.

Naw fam, thats all sort of bad juju I will pass.

Plus super propaganda points for a terrorist organization to sink it

:tinfoil: time!
Most stewards and crew are from the Phillipines....Abu Sayyaf is from the Phillipines...theyre Islamic with allegience to ISIS who hates us and the British and can infiltrate and blow up a ship....

Most of the terrorists in the phils live in the isolated southwestern islands where clan law trumps the government. They rarely make it outside of that territory.

Youd be suprised, sizable pockets of those PACRIM wackjobs make there way Mid East - that was in 2013 in the Nangahar too.

Out of all the groups AS is the more deadly and highly agile - no one pays mind to Mr Zheng the Friendly Jihadist until he moors his pontoon boat under your USS White Privledge yahct and HSSs your underbelly.

Again - :tinfoil:

This article is describing a fantasy which exists only in tales from the proposed owner, who also happens to be currently under investigation of fraud allegations ...

As pointed out earlier, modern cruise ships make their money on passenger volumes far larger than a Titanic sized ship could ever carry, with amenities that most of the steerage passengers of that era couldn't imagine.  The novelty of traveling in a time capsule like the proposed ship might carry it for a while, but if that sort of travel made financial sense the current ships would have never been built the way they are ...

FIFY!

There's no way that Mr. Rockefeller and friends imagined a ship with a casino, golf course, multiple swimming pools with huge slides, dozens of restaurants, surfing simulators, zip lines, ice skating rink, full sized basketball/tennis court, movie theater, and a shopping mall. Oh...and the ability to communicate with just about anyone in the world right from your stateroom.

This ship is not for us commoners to go on a cruise; it won’t be in competition with the mega ships.

Blue Star has reportedly been flooded with requests for tickets – with some offering up to about $900,000 for a spot on the first trip.

I think it will do great. It’s nostalgia that most will never get to experience. I suspect the rich and famous will keep it going.
I’m not interested I like my technology too much.

You might be right, but I suspect we'll never know, as this ship won't be built.  As an aside, the four promenade suites on the original Titanic cost $4350 per one-way passage (that works out to about $100 000 in today's dollars), Bruce Ismay occupied three of these, the other was unsold for the voyage ...

I can see it doing ok as an attraction/museum/rentable facility, kinda like the queen Mary in San Diego. As a viable busines hosting olde timey cruises for the uber rich... Well I know a pipe dream when I hear one.

Would be cool as hell to see, but also probably a bit of a let down if they use 'vintagy kinda looking' prefab materials for all the detailed eye candy like railing, cases, etc. Lots of room to go from illconcieved to down right hokey.

I'll pass.

People who can afford to drop 300K on a boat ride are looking for something more exclusive than sharing it with 2,434 other people, and in no way does it include anything resembling an area that could be called "third-class". For perspective, Larry Ellison's latest super-yacht is about 1/2 the size of the Titanic.

I don't see this ever being built, and being a commercial flop if it is.
